Persona are not very good, in my opinion. I can get you the number to a british lady who lives in JLT, she has loads of clients, but you have to go to her apartment, she does hair on week days / evening, no weekends, shes excellent. At one time she had to close her books, due to having to many clients. I recently had my hair done, 2 colours, cut, wash set price 380. Im sure she can straightner your hair, if you want her number let me know.

I think the developers are making it look more exciting than it is. Maybe all their friends were told to come down and pretend to be new buyers!!!! I would never buy any property here, other than if my hubby built it, lol. My friend rents an apartment, the tower isnt that old, she has had some many problems, real problems, these building are just knocked up. When you buy, you buy as seen, no guarantee after completion. Whereas in the UK new buildscome with a 10 year guarantee.

I cant answer your question, but if the company are cutting costs, then I assume your package will drop, maybe to a level where you cannot afford schooling. Maybe hubby needs to look for another job. Hubby needs to ask what the local package entails, then make a decision to move companies. Good luck.

I do visa runs every month, fortunately for me my hubby's company pay for my flights etc. These runs will continue for the whole duration of my hubbys contract. Its not much of problem for me at the moment, as I go to Dubai to visit friends and my daughter, but once they leave, i'm not sure the visa runs will be to my advantage. Bahrain is closer, so you could fly there and back the same day, flights are cheaper than Dubai too.

I am organising a pet transport company to fly our cat over from Australia to Doha. I was wondering if anyone else had experience doing this with their pets? So far it is costing around two thousand dollars. I have just been given a quote of another thousand on top to get an agent to organise the Qatar animal import permit and to take him through customs. This cat is getting EXPENSIVE! Do these prices seem right and what experiences have you had? Contact Ministry of Environment, Department of Animal Resources on 974 4456 0444.The import cert is cheap as chips, so not sure why you have been quoted 1000 dollars is way to expensive. As for customs, obviously I have no idea what they do behind the scenes, once your animal has landed, all I know when I arrived at the luggage carousel both my boys were just dumped basically next to the carousel, and I just walked thru to arrivals, no one asked me any questions or wanted to see any paperwork. ??? I would hate it for you to pay all this money out when you probably dont need to. Are you planning to travel with your cat? edited by salsB on 27/05/2013

Not cleared on entry? Sorry, but in 13 years and 5 or 6 imports to GCC and North American countries, they are always cleared on the point of entry by government vets. Having the relevant paperwork (from the Depts of Agriculture both exporting and importing countries) is very important. I've always had a government rep (maybe not a vet but a Dept of Agriculture person) inspect my paperwork and animals (physically) before my pets were allowed to enter into any country. Maybe I was not making myself clear on this one, yes I had to have a import cert, what I meant was that the airport let me walk in without showing any paperwork, so there was no inspection and we had to take the cats to the government vet within 24 hours of arriving in the country. edited by salsB on 27/05/2013

I would suggest you contact Nicky as someone mentions below. She arranged the import cert for me and my husband collected it from her when he was in Qatar. She also can arrange clearance at the airport for a separate cost which is what you will need. I can't recall the cost, but it was not very expensive. Her email is nickyroffey at yahoo dot com edited by Niggly on 16/05/2013 My cats were not cleared at the airport, you have 24hours to take your animal to the government vet, so I cant understand why anyone would be charged for airport clearance. Sounds to me people are getting paid to do nothing. edited by salsB on 26/05/2013

I would say when I moved to Dubai in 2008, spent the first 18 months on my own, didnt know where to start to find friends, but hey ho, just like buses, new friends all came at once. I had a great experience living there, now in Doha, back on my own each and every day, but im lucky I get to fly over to Dubs each month to see my DD and my best friends, we are family living overseas. Having children will open new doors to finding friends, some really great people in Dubai, try and not get to attached, breaks your heart when they or you have to leave.

I do make 95% of our meals from scratch, but heck yes a ready meal is a good once in a while. Was it mashed potato, yup, was it good, yup, do I feel bad about it, nope - and am I ready to be hung drawn and EW quartered.....yup... :D A tub of Tesco fine dining mash, one of their root veg, a tin of baked beans, and a packet of proper thin sliced corned beef and the jobs a good un. Then there is their paella Then there is Markies this that and the other. I'm a home cook as well but part of the joy of going to the Uk on holiday are the ready meals available. Im off to Scotland in August, oh those scotch pies, square sausage, and even the rolls are to die for. Good home cooking, love it.

40,000 is nothing, rents are increasing. since we have been here our yearly rents have been up on down. Starting with the first year, then following on, 125,000, 121,500, 148,000 then 105,000. This is without cooling charges aswell. edited by salsB on 12/05/2013 For dhs40 000 you would have to live in Sharjah. Dubai is a city of lots of commuting. No neighborhood is really perfect. Some are smack in the desert, some have constant traffic jams etc. so dont be worried about not living in the centre of Dubai. As alot of people, we have lived all over the place, and in my opinion not one place has been ideal. To move literally every 12 months has been a nightmare. Dubai was never going to be home, your LL made sure of it. All those moving costs and agent fees, TBH drove me mad. Also wanted to add, LL's keeping your deposit, no reason given, its like stealing in brood daylight!!! Grrrrr. but suck it up. Drink more!!! makes it all better....... edited by salsB on 13/05/2013 edited by salsB on 13/05/2013

Personally I wouldnt even consider it, but If you have done your homework then wait till its built and then buy it. Heard so many stories, that you pay out all the money and it never gets built. As for a mortgage, personally I just wouldnt buy in the UAE. Too risky. I have a friend in the UK and she has bought in Portugal and bulgaria, she looked into buying in Dubai and was told by her financial advisor not to buy this was around 10 years ago. She took his advise. Plenty of threads about buying, have a search. edited by salsB on 12/05/2013 edited by salsB on 12/05/2013

The same said bank in Doha froze our bank account recently, not even a warning by telephone. DD was coming to see us, I was flying from Dubai, Hubby went to the bank to get out the spends we needed for the family to visit. On screen in arabic was a message, Hubby obviously didnt have a clue, so that weekend we had only 200rials on us and for all the bank knew we had to scrimp till the banks opened on the sunday. When hubby went they said they wouldnt give him no money, you can imagine what he said next. The only way they would give him his money if he closed his account. The reason they froze the account is that they wanted him to show he had a RP, at this time he didnt have it. No one ever told him you can only have an account for 3 months without a RP. Very very frustrating!!!!!!! edited by salsB on 12/05/2013 edited by salsB on 12/05/2013 edited by salsB on 12/05/2013

This will be my 5th Ramadan, I tend to stay in doors, buy shopping in bulk and basically hibernate. I do tend to go home for part of Ramadan. I never go out for Iftar, roads are manic. When and If I have to venture out, never eat, drink, chew gum, always dress covering shoulders and knees. I did tend to go down to Du and Dewa and pay 2 months bills in advance, so I avoid the malls. I check EW regular to find out who delivers etc. I have my girl friends over, no music, we have a cook off, play cards, general chit chat, that kinda thing.

I paid someone to provide me with import paperwork only , cost in Doha was 650 rials for two cats. I brought them from Dubai in March. Just wanted to add I was quote 8000 rials to handle the cats from Dubai into Doha, and there was a further charge of 2500 dhs on the Dubai side. I did it myself in the end, once I eventually had the cats on the flight as excess luggage it was a walk in the park, with a reall big thank you to a lovely EW lady that came to my rescue. edited by salsB on 11/05/2013

Hi TDB, yeah the flight out isn't too much bother it's the return. The last seaplane leaves at 4pm but the inbound flight is after midnight.... And lets face it there isn't too much happening at Male airport.. It wokd be quite a wait. The seaplane for us is $500 each... Shocking!! Maybe book yourself into a local hotel as a day guest, so you can use their facilities, be more comfortable that hanging round the airport.
