Hubby isn't hands on at all, never has been, but when I was I'll afew years ago, he travelled the long distance from work to look after me and the kids. He's a great cook, hasn't done a great deal since we been here, but I can't complain, he works hard and I don't anymore. Ask me this question afew years ago, working full time, two young girls, lived away from family, hubby worked away and was always have his few pints after work, and there was me struggling with life on a daily basis. So glad these days have gone. To all the mums out there, it does get better, as the kids get older. edited by salsB on 20/09/2012

Lateness drives me mad, hardly ever late. If we are having a get together I would tend to say, come between 1 and 2, for example. Friends tend to turn up around the 1pm mark. Here I think can be Abit different, so if going by taxi I tend to text ahead and say I'm on my way.

Yes there are some that a rude, but there also so really nice ones too. If I am only doing a 10dhs fare I tend to give an extra 10 for their time. I'm sure taxi drivers find some of their customers very rude sometimes. Swings and roundabouts, but as for the OP you should of been better treated, especially with all your shopping and the kids.

I'm in the same boat as you SalsB, but I go next week! Am so settled here in Dubai and I'm so sad to be leaving but now it's actually happening, I'm feeling a [i'>bit[/i'> more positive about it (although I'm dreading the actual leaving part - I'm not a pretty crier so am hoping I can keep my dignity at the airport!) Once you know where you'll be living and start looking into it more, hopefully you'll be ok. I'm planning on coming back now & then for visits and shopping so thatll be something to look forward to whilst I'm settling in. If you like, we can stay in touch & I'll fill you in on how things are going and hopefully, you'll feel a bit better about it all soon X Yes it would be really good to know how your move goes. I've been searching on where to live, have two friends in Doha who have been really great in giving info and advise. Keep in touch and let me know how you get on. I just can't believe a 4 year old would know what stealing means, ofcourse the little rascals get into mischief, and by all means, pick a wallet up and take money, sure the kid wouldn't know what money is.

Been here a wee while, hubby in construction, we have passed many construction sites and laughs on the shoddy rubbish that is being built. My own option, I wouldn't buy here, time you paid the mortgage, you home won't be standing. edited by salsB on 17/09/2012

I've only been here 4 years, and the amount of accidents I heard of is shocking. If schools want to name and shame, not much Wrong in that. So many parents do hide their heads in the sand when it comes to safety, kids need to be protected, and I should be the parents duty to do this. I've seen kids in cars without any restraint!!!!!

It's on the green line. If you are coming down the red line, you'll change at Burjuman (Khalid Bin Walid) and then it's just one stop down on the green line and about a 5 minute walk from the metro station. Ask inside the metro station for the best exit to the Khaleej centre. :) Sorry, yes Fahidi St is the name of the metro station (and the street that leads from the metro down to the post office/museum etc) edited by BiscuitMuncher on 15/09/2012 Thanks BM, :)

Hi Plum2 there is a new system that works quite well :) Firstly, you need to remember to get different passport photos, they only take 2" x 2". The new processing place is in the Khaleej Centre in Bur Dubai. (By metro, Fahidi St is your closest). Get there early in the morning. I think it is under 200 AED for the visit visa. It takes about 3 days and you can pay a bit extra (I think 50 AED) to have your passport delivered back to your door. You need all the usual docs + for a tourist visa take your flight/hotel bookings. if you don't have anything booked, then book something online that you can cancel. edited by BiscuitMuncher on 15/09/2012 BM, it that the name of the metro station, is it the red or green line?? I need to go and get my visa sorted. Tia

No. Even if the kids can swim, accidents can happen, we were on holiday once and 8 year old lad, that could swim like a fish, sadly drown. Not sure any decent parent would even consider letting their kids use a pool unattended.

Overtime, we seem to know and trust people, especially some great ladies on EW, I have taken things back to the UK, no question, it's no big deal, yes we do want to help, I'm the first one to help, but as in this instance, who has an empty suitcase???? I just got back from home only 3 weeks and my case was 28kgs coming back ( allowance was 30 ) and I didn't need to buy much other than, bits and bobs for me and a friend. Yes I ask mates, if they need anything, and yes I bring them back what they need. Ps, my mum coming soon, so if you need anything small bringing back, let me know.

I recall being asked to get some face powder for someone, I put myself out, it was winter back at home, got soaked through, got the darn stuff, came back, came on here to say I got what she wanted, was asked if I could bring it to Ajman, I said no, never heard from her again. Each time I go home I do ask if anyone had any post etc, I only bring back stuff for friends now. Not being rude but asking a follow EW'er if they have an empty suitcase is so funny.
