the new motorway is open to Colombo, you still have quite a trek from the motorway to the airport. We were in Hakkaduwa, in a stand alone villa, not far from the main road. I'm not sure I would go back, I honestly didn't rate the food, and I'm not a fussy eater either. We were there mid November, weather was quite iffy, had a few days of heavy rain, and a power cut that lasted 12 hours. To many spiders for my liking.

thanx salsb....but i am a horrible at this...and will need to attend some classes to see how they are properly made!! hence looking for some baking classes in dubai I am sure you don't need to go to a cookery class, try it at home first, you may surprise yourself. I am forever looking for easy cooking on google, lol

I recently hired a car in the UK, I was asked for a utility bill, which I do not have, I said we lived overseas and produced my passport, the hire car rep, didn't question me, or even said it was illegal to drive. How do other visitors manage to hire cars then???? with an uae licence. I don't want an UAE license thou. TBH I have never had an issue when hiring, I have even used my Dubai address on the hire paperwork, and haven't been asked for any other license.

Scuffles. Ive recently found a lump, so I can well understand how scary it is. Please ring and get an appointment with Dr Christa at Nicoloas and Asp, she is friends with Dr Karin( Sp) I was able to get an appointment within 4 days and even requested the results the same day. We recently moved out our 2 bed apartment, the LL with held 6000 from our 10,000 deposit, we didnt have a leg to stand on, We already spent 2000 on cleaning, dry cleaning, and had two arm chairs upholstered, he still wasn't satisfied. Pure greed. When we moved in the apartment was not painted for us, yet he took 2500 to have the whole apartment to be painted, even thou 3 rooms were water damaged, due to maintenance problems. <em>edited by salsB on 01/04/2012</em>

We all get a bit low sometimes, but I thank my lucky stars to each and every day. This year has been one rotten time so far, my cousin was murdered, my best friend lost a close family member to cancer and she has just found out her SIL is seriously ill with secondary cancer.

It isn't just Australia, EK have put prices up across the board. Flight from Birmingham to here in July is now 750 pounds, last year 415!!!!!! Recently I was on a flight from BHX and the passenger next to me was going to India, changing in Dubai and he paid 100 pound less than me.

Not just out of control but it just does not make sense. Normally, you would pay more for extra sectors on a flight. But if book to travel from the UK to Melbourne via Dubai on Emirates, you pay a bit over 5000 dirhams, but if you just want to go from Dubai to Melbourne then you pay 7000 dirhams. It makes sense then to book the trip out of London but just miss that first sector and end up getting on in Dubai!!! If only then allowed that. I don't think you can miss the first sector of the trip, Ive looked into this.

UAE Exchange, I think their rates are abit better, and if sending a large sum, they give you a better rate. Rate at present is about 5.88, well it was afew days ago,

yes it is hot, I go home in July and bring back my little GD, lots of indoor activities, I tend to take her swimming at night, Actually she has been here twice whilst It's Ramadan, and to be honest it really doesn't bother her, I feed her lots of ice Lollies and ice cream, and when she goes home she shows and tells at school about her experience in a Muslim country, very educational for all her class mates.

The airport only accept dollars, euros and UK sterling. Airport is quite. A clean place, not very big, you can sit and have a drink too.

When I purchased it, we received 25% of the brunch bill so we initially saved 280dhs, so not complaining on this side of things. I know we will gain our money back just on brunches. Just a tiny bit disheartened with the room rates, I agree late check out will be great. Kelly do they upgrade??? i have been bumped to a better room on occasion.i agree it's not as clear and easy as it could be - despite having the card we usually a) check price on expedia b) check price on rotana website c) call to see best rate for card members then book via one of the above routes based on the best deal. whichever way you book you still get the late check out which for me is worth its weight in gold... I always call when booking and ask for the best rotana rewards rate, al ain rotana told me its 15% off their best rate, I agree it varies from hotel to hotel, we ended up getting a good rate at The Cove when we booked in advance. Sometimes it's cheaper to,book online. Doesn't really make sense, but worth it for the meal discounts, the voucher and the late checkouts. Just don't expect too much from the room rates. We have afew weekends planned and Xmas, so maybe I am expecting too much, heehee.

I purchased the card last week, been trying to book directly on their website, I need my password, but I havent got one, and I cant see where to register either. So I ring them and they give me a room rate of 425 without breakfast and tax, but their website is showing 550 with breakfast, Is this card abit of a con. The T & S says that we can get upto 60% of room rates, but this isnt true. Any feedback would be much appreciated. TIA
