I think the best way to learn is with a hands on approach. A first Aid course would be very beneficial thou. I am not to sure if I would want someone with no experience with my baby... How old is the helper, has she never had any child care experience, with family friends etc.

Our bill each week is about 1200, this is for 4 people. I do price check and compare. I am really fussy with my meat, so I dont like to scrimp on that. I have my GD over at the minute, OMG the stuff she likes is so expensive, but she is here on holiday, so treats are allowed. I do find cheaper fruits are tasteless and dry, the dont last very long either. Veggies can be hit and miss, and a while ago we just couldnt get any mushrooms for weeks..... If we come across certain UK brands, we stock up, as when the shelves are empty it can take weeks for the goods to be back in. Whenever I travel home, we always bring back our favourite food stuffs. I was only in Megamart and asked why they dont sell chinese sauces, like in the UK...there are afew favourites I have never been able to get hold off.

We live on a compound of 13 villa's, backside of Lulu, just off Gharaffa Street, we like it, apart from the 5 mosques that surround our local area. I love we have no heavy traffic, and our compound is quiet also.

My driver has a 4x4 and he helped us move. Depending on how big the boxes are you may not need a removal company. we don't have a driver! at the moment we don't even have a car yet because we could not ask the driving licence until the RP was ready. boxes are not so big, a pick up is enough, but not a normal car. thank you a lot Here is Mohammed's number 55410921. Very reliable, he pulled down all the seats at the back, and we managed to cram loads in. Make sure you ask for a large car.

Can't help you with everything, but utility bills are expensive, Hampshire wouldn't be cheap to live. Taxation can be upto 40%. Food shopping isn't as cheap as it used to be either. Quite hard to put a ballpark figure on a salary, but maybe 30,000 after tax to live on be ok.

A slightly different situation, but I know of a person that's name is marked and cannot transfer in the UAE. I'm sure the airport system is very techno.

The scanners are super sensitive. It wil pick up everything in your hold luggage. I seen for myself a couple weeks ago... Personally I would bring everything you use at home, and favourite products, bring them too. Recently I couldnt get Heinz Tomato soup and my typhoo have always been hit and miss.

Im in Qatar but having some problems too. We had OSN installed in February, we bought the smart card hard casing for 150, and was told to go to Al Jazeera for the smart card.... We were told that we can no longer buy the smart card, instead buy the BeIN box and subscription.... on asking afew outlets, they tell us a different story each time. Basically we buy the box which costs 1200, an engineer has to come to install and we will need a new dish!!!!! we have given up now. We are streaming from UK TV for the Footy. Qatar is deff worse than Dubai... Honest lol.

I know someone that transported their animals by road, i recall her not being to disappointed. I can ask her thou for you if you would like. I brought both my cats from Dubai to here a year ago by air. Never thought about it by road, as its quite a journey and as you have to enter Saudi aswell. Personally I would fly them. I wouldnt bring plants in... they will probably decline you entering with them. Cant help with Maids, as I only have cleaning done once a week. I holiday's there quite along time ago and recently whilst on a cruise. I really like Malta. Completely different to Dubai, the people are extremely friendly, they do like the Brits. You can goggle living in Malta along with finding out living costs. I would try and go for a visit beforehand. Im sure If we were offered a job there, with a good package, I would deff consider moving there.

Yes, because we're just coming to the perfect time of year to be spending more time walking outdoors, right? :) What does this have to do with OP's question? Should she chose something that's next to a big air conditioned mall, because the summer is coming? Quite alot of people choose to live close to such amenities, the OP wouldnt want to be stranded living where she has nowhere to walk... so its important to let OP know, it will be impossible to walk to Marina in the heat....

My DD has just moved her cats from Northern Iraq via Dubai to the UK. They havent reached the UK yet. We used a relocator as it can get complicated. I know some people have done it themselves, I asked the same question on here going back a while, and it seems no one wants to tell you exactly what you need to do. You get snippets of info, not the full breakdown. This is what I do know. 1. Your pet must be upto date with its rabies vacc. Pets have to have their rabies done at least 3 months prior to entering the UK. 2. The government vet will want to see you pet in person, then export papers will be given to you. 3. Pets fly into Manchester and Heathrow as manifested cargo. ( there may well be other airports that except pets, but not sure ). 4. A fee is paid to the handling agent at the UK airport, my DD paid 300 dollars. 5. Manifested cargo with Emirates is 110 dirhams per kilo. 6. 2 pets can travel in the same carrier, but weight cannot be over 14 kilo's. There must be enough room to allow the pets to move around. Hope this helps alittle bit.

Had a 65th birthday meal out with extended family and friends for my DH in a local restaurant on Friday. We were all sat down and a plummy voice behind me said "would you like your wine poured sir"? My DH who was sitting opposite me glanced up without actually looking at the "waiter" and said "no thanks, just put it there please" pointing to a gap on the table. I glanced behind me and the "waiter" was actually our DS who had arrived secretly from Dubai!!!! Our DD had picked him up from the airport that morning. He was hiding in the disabled loo until we all arrived!! What a fab weekend we have had with him. He wasn't meant to be coming home again until July and during a Skype session with him earlier in the week he was apologising for the fact that he just couldn't get the time to come home for his dad's special birthday! He flew back to Dubai this morning. :) Oh Joyce that is just lovely :) Thats so lovely. I always do surprises. I flew my eldest DD and Mum over last year for our youngest daughter surprise. Mum and DD were hiding in a hotel, then we all met at Grand Habtoor, hubby and I walked outside and DD said what are you doing here, ( it was hubbys birthday and we had said we going go carting and she thought we were in Doha). once she got over the shock, out walked my mum and other DD. She didnt know whether to laugh or cry.... it was classic.

We recently moved from apartment to a villa. The apartment was 3 mins drive for hubby to get to work. Very convenient, but apartment living was making me depressed. We now live in a villa in Gharaffa, the drive for him, is about 25 mins, no congestion at all for him and he works down by the souk. Loving where we live now. I am sure the apartments on the Pearl are a far cry to my apartment in Bin Mahmoud, good luck.

Hopefully I'll get everything back!! All you need for a renewal is the completed form, 2 passport pictures, ( one signed) and the old passport. edited by salsB on 22/04/2014
