I'm in RAK so I hope it's the same. It should be SD. When I renwed from the UAE it was 150dhs, there was a cheaper option, but I wanted the passport to get there faster. Just wanted to add, its a different story in Qatar, i had to have mine replaced late last year and the charge just to send it to Liverpool was 480 Rials. I nearly fainted.....

Going back to the time my kids were born, there were no such thing as day care/nursery. My cousin's nursey fees are so expensive. Not everyone has the luxury of a maid cum babysitter or day care.... alot of mums had no choice but to stay home as it works out cheaper. Why would anyone ridicule a SATM, its the most precious job any parent could do. Just because woman have important jobs out there, doesnt mean the us mums that are at home are anyway second best....... edited by salsB on 21/04/2014 edited by salsB on 21/04/2014

on my EK flight on Thursday, I pick my seat at row 20, I normally sit at 48, but find waiting on cold drinks takes to long. I was asked if I wanted chicken or lamb, I said lamb, was informed she will have to bring me one from another cart, so I plodding on eating the starter and crackers, the crew member cam back half hour later and said she had no more lamb!!!!! I had abit of a moan, but there you go. I was seated next to a little old fella, he was up and down every 15 mins, not good when you have a bad back. Further on on the flight and man came up the aisle, looked drunk to me, and was swaying.... on approaching my area, he kind of fell, but found his footiing, he gave me the biggest back hand knuckle duster right in my face..... he then collapsed at the toilets. I dont fair to well with luck on flights.... always in the wrong place.... lol Oh and the head sets never work properly.... the last few flights, I had broken screens and head sets never work,

Well cat flap has been ordered.... and will be installed on Saturday. She will just have to suck it up that only the boys can go outside. :) Have you thought bout getting her a harness!!! could be an idea. Then you can gradually see if she will be ok to venture out on her own. We did that with our cat of little brain and he nearly hung himself ! I didnt mean that the cat be left alone with the harness on.

my boys been house cats for 5 years.. now we have a garden with very high walls, they love going out. So no its not cruel to keep you kitty indoors, if thats what its used too. But is it cruel to let two go out and not one? No its not..... if the cat will be harmed then the owner is only protecting the kitty. Cats dont think like us.... whereas human kids would ask why cant I go out. Cats are different.

The best thing for you to do is, dont read the posts then. the question asked intially was how do they cope whilst we are away, now if you want to discuss where we stand as partners to our husbands, thats a different story..... As a member of this forum I believe I am permitted to read the posts and disagree, and express my disagreement or ask the posters questions, which they can of course choose not to respond to. Or is EW only for those who agree that husbands should be adored and mollycoddled and looked up to as supreme beings? edited by Miss Issippi on 20/04/2014 edited by Miss Issippi on 20/04/2014 Im now off to wash his clothes, change his bed and think about what to cook him for tea, and to make sure he has a cool beer in the fridge. lol Sense of humour is need for this forum..... hee hee edited by salsB on 20/04/2014

They way most posters here refer to their husbands just says it all. You clearly don't see them as your equals! "Of course most men can fend for themselves, i think they enjoy the freedom of takeaways" "I also stock the cupboards with extra staples so that when he goes shopping it's just a quick stop" "He does do some of his own washing" Why are you all so grateful to your husbands for working and bringing in the money? Do you not feel that being at home looking after the kids, you contribute equally to the family? Why do you feel the need to provide a service to your husband when you're not even at home? Is that not an opportunity for you to relax (since you're on holiday) and your husband to have some peace and quiet and look after himself? Perhaps its my feminist roots but I get a real itchy, annoying feeling reading through your posts. Why are women still so subservient to men, in this day and age? Why do you feel the need to mollycoddle them and treat them like adult babies? The best thing for you to do is, dont read the posts then. the question asked intially was how do they cope whilst we are away, now if you want to discuss where we stand as partners to our husbands, thats a different story.....

my hubby goes to work daily to give me a great stardard of living, he works long hours, like everyone else does. No harm in making sure he has his essentials in the house whilst Im gone. Ofcourse most men can fend for themselves, i think they enjoy the freedom of takeaways etc. Men arent children, but in my opinion the isnt anything wrong to make sure he has all he needs, to make life easier after a hard day at work.

I normally use EK from Qatar - DXB -BHX. As no other Middle Eastern airpline flies to Brum. I will now look at Europe, I will follow the post to see who can tell me of any decent airlines to use in future. I tell you what puzzles me, whilst sitting on the plane, I noticed that the seats arent aligned with the windows!!! i do wonder how many extra rows they have put in. Flights very cramped now, cant swing a cat. At brum I asked if business class had any seats, was told no, yet when I got off I could see there were!!!! so annoying.

At BHX last thursday a chap had his guitar and made him leave the queue to go to the EK customer service desk to pay excess, he wasnt aware of any changes. EK have gone right down the pan lately. I cant beleive they are a Award winning company, must be back hander's me thinks. My flight with them was the worse Ive ever been on. Just shocking. The in flight service is awful. Terrible at check in too, if they can find any reason to inconvenience you they will.......errrr it seems that your baggage is a little over......smug smug smug.......(without even checking your airmiles status) grrrrr I won't go on and on or SkyKitty will come on here with her 5c. I know Skykitty will not be happy, but she will have to face upto it, as a customer we have a right to our views. lol

No problem Doubting Thomas - wish we could afford to fly Business! Busybee2 - The whole point is that Emirates offered a better service than the other airlines by allowing sports equipment free. That has been taken away so the only advantage of flying Emirates is............. One of the best safety records in the world, if not the best, best maintained planes, extremely well trained pilots (best) great food, hardly ever suffer big delays (unlike another regional I could mention) great code share partners, excellent air miles program, great service on board and ground, fantastic lounges, new planes, competitive fares. I have to disagree about Emirates' service. I have recently flown to Bangkok and we suffered a massive delay here in Dubai and were left to sit on the apron while the fault was fixed and another delay again leaving Bangkok (both due to technical issues). As a result of leaving Thailand late, we missed our landing slot at DXB and had to stack for around 45 minutes. We were massively late back and many, many passengers on both flights missed their connections. I also have to disagree about the service. Whilst the ground and air staff are truly excellent (it was like herding cats for them on the flight back from Bangkok), the food and beverage service in economy (I don't fly business either!) has been pared back. I didn't eat either hot meal in or out of Dubai and I would have at least expected coffee, orange juice and a croissant prior to landing in Dubai at 3.30am. Their prices are also extortionate for what is no longer a premium airline and I fail to see the attraction of this airline anymore. If you fly a lot and not in economy, then yes, I guess the perks are good but for joe public, Emirates is no better than any other airline and I will now chose my carrier based on timings and price and if this means going to AUH, we are only 50 minutes away. Last November I missed my connecting flight from DXB to Doha, had to sit in the airport ove 6 hours, with a very bad back. Staff just throw a voucher at you, and you are suppose to get on with it. I disagree with EK planes being on time!!! most of the time I never take off on time. there always delays....As for the food, erm..... food isnt that great, and staff are so soured faced these days. edited by salsB on 20/04/2014

Can't comment on the artificial grass unfortunately! The nursery is very expective thou. An Unlimiited contract is just that, you can leave whenever you wish too as long as you give the sufficient amount of notice. The only difference being, gratuity pay will be based on the time you spent working there. UAE Law stipulates on the Labour website somewhere that if a company ask you to sign something other than a standard Labour Law contract, whether it is Limited or Unlimited and then there is an issue (as you are going through), the only contract that is legally binding, is the UAE Labour Law one. The one the company gave to you, is completely void. Speak to Labour, they will help you out :).

I did have an issue at Birmingham airport in December, they wanted to see my return ticket, I didnt have one. They let me board the plane, but i was informed its the airlines responsibilty to ensure passengers have the exact paperwork or visa in place before landing.

We've used a company in the UK recently to transfer a lump sum and they got us a much better deal than any bank. Obviously the more you transfer the better, but even accounting for the amount we had to pay to transfer it was a much, much better rate than the bank. They have told us that if/when we use tham again we will get an ever better rate as a previous customer, so worth sticking with them. Can you supply details please, so the transfer was from Doha to UK bank Account?? edited by salsB on 02/03/2014

We used to send money regular from Dubai. We find the exchange rate is that poor lately, we havent sent money home in months. Scares meabit to think we have quite alot of money in the account here, but we are waiting for the exchange rate to get better. Banks are more costly, so I would send cash thru a Qatari Exchange house, rates are better than banks.
