The worlds local bank is useless. As for global transfers, never been able to send money to our uk bank of the same name. Hubby can't even close his dubai one, so he continues to pay a 100 fee each month.

no they do not. I think Emirates does. If you book through certain travel agents, the travel agent may offer that service regardless of the airline. Business on QR entitles you to the Business Class Terminal and then the "Fast Track" line in e/immigration (if you don't have egate). Can I ask if the fast track back into Doha Immigration is included, as we know how busy it can get!!! edited by salsB on 26/01/2014

Thanks a lot to both of you..... sorry I did not answer promptly, but there are so many things to do before moving... the first to move will be my husband. Me and our daughter will follow a few month later, in summer, and we wanted to bring the cats (two female kittens) with us. Maybe an agency will be helpful: can you write its name or website, so I can contact them? residency: I will not have the residency permit yet when I will fly with cats, but my husband (who will be already in Doha) will, and he will be already employed. Will a letter from HIS employer and HIS residence permit be enough for Qatar Airways? And: no sanitary permit for entering with cats is required? no quarantine? thanks a lot Eleonor I used an agent in Doha to apply for my Import for both my cats, the cost was 600 rials, I then decided to apply for my friends cat and it cost nothing.... Its a very easy process, if you need help, just let me know. As per last year you need a residency to fly in with Qatar Air, I used Emirates from Dubai and the cats went as excess luggage. I used Qatar Pet Relocator's for the Import papers only, but she will do a full service for you. As long as your cats have had their rabies injection at least a month before travel, they will need to be microchipped also. So there will be no Quarantine. If you hubby has his Qatari ID and Residence, that is literally all you need to import the cats. Qatar pet relocator will send you an email with all info required.

Hi Pammy, Im no longer in Dubai but spent over 5 years there, sadly i had to leave a year ago, and move to Qatar. I really did love living in Dubai, really did. I really dont want to put you off the idea of finding friends, but I found some lovely people there, if only a few compared to the mass amount of Ex pats I met. In general ( compared to Qatar). Dubai is quite a small place you could live in most areas and get from A to B much quicker than here. On my own experience I have joined certain activities in meeting other ExPats and all seems fine, but I always found Dubai to be a very lonely place, finding good honest friends are very hard to come by..... Arabian Raches in my opinion is very much family oriented, VH seems to me to be out the way. If you have no young kids, then I would suggest Dubai Marina, JBR. Lots going on, places to go for coffee, and im sure there is still groups that meet up on a regular basis. Just enjoy the experience. Dubai is wicked.... edited by salsB on 18/01/2014

Ufff....sounds like this is going to be harder than i'd thought. Of course, most of the villas look lovely on the websites but anything can look nice in a photo i guess! Romana, are you in Qatar already? Sals, how did you manage to find a place when you were moving from Dubai? Did you manage to get somewhere to move straight into or did you go into temp accom first? I just have no idea how we're going to manage this. Seems like mission impossible at the moment, especially with a toddler and a dog in tow!! :( We're hoping to find somewhere around Al Waab / Abu Hamour area but its so hard knowing if what you see on the websites is actually what you'll get. Im guessing that Real Estate agents in Qatar are probably of the same impeccable standard as in Dubai? I was at a compound today in Al Waab called Y Village Compound, very family oriented. Dogs can be a problem in general I think... Hubby was in temp accomodation for 8 weeks, we managed to rent out our fully furnished apartment with no residency, we got a letter from his company stating his visa was in progress, we paid cash for our rent each month, initially paid a month rent in advance and a deposit. I have two cats in my apartment, genral rule is no animals, but the agent said it would be ok, well she would do, wouldnt she, Ive had no problems, but my cats are indoor anyway. Looking forward to moving as they do like getting outdoors for a play.

Romana, not sure if Bin Mahmoud is a location for you, but at present we are in a 2 bed fully furnished and includes electricity, water and chiller for 12500 per month, the whole apartment compound is well maintained, has an indoor pool, gym, also it has only one owner. We'd love to live in Bin Mahoud, maybe Al Sadd, Al Mutaza, or around those parts of town! These are the parts of Doha we love. The problem is that all apartments we see online are furnished and we don't know where to leave our furniture (plus I really want my own bed). Are owners generally willing to remove all furniture from living/dining and bed rooms or is it not even worth trying? If not, then the only alternative would be compound villas, and there aren't too many in that part of town. edit: thinking about it, we need a new sofa and bedroom closets anyway and maybe want to get rid of the dining table and chairs. Thus an owner would only need to partially empty two bedrooms (keep one for guests, one room will be for work) and let us put our own paintings on the wall... edited by Romana on 16/01/2014 It could be worth asking if you can have your own beds etc, Im sure there will be no deduction in rent thou, but worth asking.....

LMAO, seen stand alone and compound and to perfectly honest, I wouldn't let my cats live there, I just can't believe the low standard of villas at a price that is OTT. Lucky we found a brand new 5 bed in Al Gharrafa, near at Landmark and literally behind Lulu's. A small compound of 13 villas and one owner.

I cant help you with everything, but we have just found our new villa, and its time consuming to say the least!!!! Some of the villa's shown, just were not suitable to live in. You need to ensure any agent knows exactly what you are looking for.... I would suggest you may want to contact Fookis and Nelson Park Real Estate. Hope it helps.

JLT Metro station has been fully functionally for a long time now. No matter what side you are at, you still have a short walk to the station its self, as its kind of centred in the middle of the walkway.

I would install cameras before you employ your maid.I have seen afew very disturbing programmes in recent times, and the carers always have this great loving attitude and behind the parents back they can be very cruel. Not saying this will happen to the OP ofcourse, but if the maid has nothing to hide then camera's shouldnt be a problem.

I've done the first aid course at Hamad and it's worth doing for sure. I understand the concerns you feel about administering first aid whilst here in Doha. We learned in the course that at least for local women we are not to touch them in any way unless given permission by a member of her family. Coming from a Western perspective this is madness, but this is the way it is here. As for the situation you encountered, I wouldn't feel so bad. If the gentleman was conscious and breathing, then there is not much you could do except make him safe and comfortable and wait for emergency response. Fortunately he was breathing, but un conscious. I was a first aider in the UK, what i found really strange, the gentleman had vomitted, so a british guy put him on his side, when the paramedics arrived they insisted on putting him on his back???

Im no expert as Ive only been here since Febuary, but I wouldnt even come over for a nose around within any firm offer of employment. If you hubby is in property, then maybe he can contact some real estate companies and ask if there are any vacancies. I am not to sure a family would put you up, at the end of the day you are stranger's. Doha can be very expensive, hotels and apartments are pricy to rent on a short term basis. I would do the research from home first, there will be plenty of info on the web for you to get to know Doha as a place to move to. HTH

I was so stressed, In gave everything away in the end... Dubizzle drove me nuts. I advertised as a job lot, and had people ringing to buy my kettle..... endless calls daily, far to much for me to cope with, I just picked a lady and said come at 4pm, and you can take the lot for nothing. Very surprising she turned up in a very small car, not sure how she would fit a one bedroomed apartment furniture in it, but that was her problem. I did walk away scratching my head.....

My Hubby's company has had a collection and achieved quite alot of money for the fund. I do hope all the people get all the help and get them back on their feet, must be so awful for everyone living in the Philippines. I am all for giving to charity, I do worry that some agencies are corrupt, I so remember giving a cash amount to a particular charity for the tsumami, and afew months later, they said they was not using all the fund, but saving it for another disaster in future..... I gave for that disaster, its not their choice to pick and choose, and even thou I know there are honest people out there.... I do have my reservations, especially with cash payments. Nevertheless, I hope and pray that supplies are sent asap, and help relieve the people of their terrible misery... very sad....
