There is MSN too. My mum doesn't have a computer so I use skype to ring her landline. Just make sure you take your laptop away with you the next time you go on holiday and install it. I have a VPN as Skype just doesn't seem to work without it.

salsB, not sure who your car insurance is with, but we have AXA and they collected the car, got the inspection done, had the new registration card done and returned it all same day. Is part of their service if your insurance is with them. We are insured with Axa, but as Hubby works in AD a bit difficult to arrange, but good to know thou.

Kels, so sad Leo is missing, but have faith. ( Seen his pic in The Vet Hospital yesterday) Take in the other little fella as a foster, it wont replace Leo, as a fellow fosterer myself its so rewarding. When Leo returns he will have a play mate. Good luck and really hoping you little boy comes home soon.

A lady was running pushing her pushchair, running quite fast too around the outer boundry of Safa Park. Hate to think if she fell, the poor baby too.

Just read this from the UK Embassy:- At least one partner is Anglican · Neither partner is Muslim · At least one partner is resident in Dubai, (unless prior permission is obtained from the Church and all necessary legalities met in both partners places of residence in the UK.) · The ceremony must take place in the Church; (Blessings only may be possible at other locations by arrangement with the Reverends). · Official attested proof from the Embassy that the British partner is free to marry. · Minimum age = 18 this from the UK Embassy, so maybe I am wrong!!! edited by salsB on 23/09/2011

Have a gander on Google for weddings in Dubai, seems lots of companies think you can... am sure there must be some wedding planners on EW that can clarify for sure though. I'm sure only Expats/ Residents can marry here, I'm not sure about non Expats /residents???? will have a gander now as its got my mind ticking edited by salsB on 23/09/2011

I'm in Trident Bayside, same road as the Grosvenor Hotel, Marina Hotel apartments are directly across the road from me. I would say my building is higher end finished, very well maintained, with a gym, indoor sauna, Jacuzzi, we even have an Oxygen and Yoga room. really nice pool area.

I live in the Marina and love it. Haven't lived downtown so can't really comment. We have so much on our doorstep, bars, restaurants, so much to choose from. The metro is right next door to me, I have Spinneys a mere 5 minutes walking distance, A lovely view of the Marina.

Not thinking of offshore - but for "local" use, i.e. the main bank we will use while in dubai - credit cards, international transfers.....etc...... I would not use any bank for international transfers, the rate is a lot lower.

People in the UK, especially at Tesco Express, fill their own car, and go shopping before paying for their petrol. So annoying, especially when it's freezing cold.

My puppy would chew anything. I saved and saved for months to have my sitting room completely refurbished, It looked lovely with new carpets, soft furnishing etc. I came home from work and found she had chewed on the carpet at the runner, scratched all the varnish off the new door, as this wasn't enough, she then chewed all the knobs of my fairly new washing Machine, and last but not least, got hold of my 200 carton of duty free cigs, eat and chewed all by 18, and sicked it up all over my new floor. She was a rascal, drove me crazy, but we really did love her.
