We are renewing as I write, the LL decided to use the agent from last year, no mention we have to pay anything, not that we will anyway. We paid the fee last year, so they wont be getting anymore money from us.

Betti, make sure you only bring Paracetamol with you, and no pain killers containing Codeine, Im sure you are aware its illegal here. Thanks SalsB....i didn't know that was illegal. Ps, Dont bring any jumpers / cardies you wont need them!!!! Also go to the pound shop and stock up on all your toiletries, including razor blades, can be very expensive here.

Really? I reckon I pay more here but probably had my heating on more than my AC here. :) Excluding the coucil tax which was 160 pounds amonth, our gas was 100 and electricity was 60, water was cheaper at 30. My Dewa including housing fee is around 900dhs a month, we are only in apartment here thou. edited by salsB on 14/07/2011

My neice back in the UK has been going to part time school / Nursery since she was 3. There isnt anything wrong in this and to be honest, its good for kids to learn early. I really do wish people would mind their own, and lets parents be parents to their own kids. Whose business is it to say what they do.

Lala are you living in lala land!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot believe that you are considering letting you cat out on the balcony and especially beiing 32 floors up. Cats have instinct to jump up / down. There are so many incidents with cats being killed from balconies. The only safe way is to put mesh up and make sure its securely fixed.

I would of asked for the correct bill. I recently found a handbag in a taxi in the marina, it contained over 2500 pounds. Never for a second thought of keeping the bag, owner was found, happy days.

salsB - we loved Mauritius! We went in 2003 (so some time ago!) as a big family holiday and stayed in self catering villas beside Flic en Flac beach. We hired cars and just went touring around the island every other day. The highlight of the trip was driving to the East coast of the Island and taking a boat to Ile aux Cerfs. This is a private island owned by One and Only Resorts but you could get access to it for a fee. My DH and I went one day, after leaving the rest of the family on the beach, and we absolutely loved it. It was some time ago, so don't know if non residents can still get access to it, but I would highly recommend it if you are not staying at the One and Only Resort. Have fun! Neeps, thanks, really looking forward to it now.

Got mine done today at Dnata on SZR, very easy, upstairs to E gate office, waited 5 mins, gave passport, no photos required they take it there and then, fingerprints, pay dhs.220 cash in same office and voila all done! Great point about passport not being filled with entry stamps if you are a frequent traveller....... Can anyone clarify if they take children thru egate with them? I forgot to ask today. I took my GD thru, I did ask first and had no problems.

I hired a car whilst home ( 2 weeks ago )and had no problems at all. I did ring the hire company to hire the car a day early and they informed me to bring my passport and UK utility bill, once I explained I didnt have a bill as I was a non UK resident, I was told that will be ok, just bring your passport and credit card. I booked thru National Car Hire. We can hire cars and be non resident of the UK. How do holiday makers from around the world manage to hire cars????? Its a Myth what we have read in the past.

We are nearing our 3rd year, living in 3 different properties, we got caught, so to speak about 6 months ago. Dewa send you your bill wilth a leaflet informing you to complete online. My building management asked us to do the same, it was mandatory. THe fee will be 5% of your rent, so easy to work out your budget. SalsB can I ask what did you have to complete online? THe web address was on the leaflet, I wouldnt worry to much about paying the fee, wait till the find you. Back payments arent ever asked for either.

I would save the money and buy somewhere else. A good friend of mine wanted to buy here afew years ago and was informed by a financial advisor that it would be a bad move. As said by others we dont have the rights to abode here, with having property or not. My DH works in construction and has seen some poor new builds, they dont even come with a guarantee do they. Any failure to pay then its of to Dubai Hilton, far to risky.
