We are due to move at the beginning of next year from China, have not driven in my 4 years here and having visited Dubai many times recently, think I will need all the help I can get to know my way around!!! Many thanks for your help:) I hope the maps are upto date, roads change here by the hour, with no warnings!!! lol:)

JS, this isnt a knock at you, but come on your reaching 30. You have you life ahead of you, its not great hardship, life is for living, dont beat yourself up just because your not twenty something anymore. I lost a friend last year he was 26 years old, Im so sure his last wish would of been to reach his next birthday. Enjoy life, age doesnt matter its how you feel and hopefully you are living a happy one. I received this email yesterday, really made me think!!!! hope you like it. The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being.. She said, 'Hi handsome. My name is Rose. I'm eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?' I laughed and enthusiastically responded, 'Of course you may!' and she gave me a giant squeeze.. 'Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?' I asked. She jokingly replied, 'I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, and have a couple of kids...' 'No seriously,' I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age. 'I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!' she told me. After class we walked to the student union building and shared a chocolate milkshake. We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized listening to this 'time machine' as she shared her wisdom and experience with me.. Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up. At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet. I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium.. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the floor. Frustrated and a little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, 'I'm sorry I'm so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I'll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know.' As we laughed she cleared her throat and began, ' We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die. We have so many people walking around who are dead and don't even know it! There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight. Anybody! Can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunity in change. Have no regrets. The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets..' She concluded her speech by courageously singing 'The Rose.' She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives. At the year's end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those months ago. One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep. Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it's never too late to be all you can possibly be. These words have been passed along in loving memory of ROSE. REMEMBER, GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY. GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL. We make a Living by what we get. We make a Life by what we give..

Its not a competition and if your so called friend is doing this, then she isnt a friend anyway. Some people pass like ships. Finding good friends is so hard to come by. edited by salsB on 14/03/2011

My MIL remarried 6 months before our wedding, on her wedding day she tried to spill something personal to the wedding crowd, as I tried to shut her up I accidentally burnt her wedding dress with my cigarette. Well she should try and keep her mouth shut. The time we married in the June her marriage was over by the way!!!!!!!! the poor man escaped lightly. edited by salsB on 13/03/2011

Im not sure of all the rules but I dont think your LL has to renew your contract. I could be wrong here. Maybe its time for you to move to a new place where a new LL will welcome your money. Plenty of places to rent, so you have lots of choice I would think.

Food wise I think 2 days in advance. We used to have lots of home deliveries, we have cut back on them now, not just due to cost but having the same food becomes so boring. Ive been on the internet to find different foods for us to eat, more healthier options too I think. Last week I made a home made quiche, normally I would hit the drawer where all the menu's are kept and just pick the phone up to place my order. Plans this week to make my home made Tomato and basil soup and tonight doing my OH fav Chilli with rice.

Set out your budget and keep to it. Look for alternative foods, cheaper brands can and do taste the same as the more expensive ones. If I overspend one day I cut back the next. We dont use the MMI or A&E anymore, thats saves use quite abit each month. Havent really been out lately so no spending there either. A friend of mine was quite shocked on what we allow each month for food, eating out, petrol, she spends a quarter to what we do, but it all depends on how many is in the family, everyone is different and so are their needs.

Ive left my 2 when they were younger, its good to get time away with OH. Maybe try and go away somewhere local. I was at Hatta Fort this weekend such a lovely place to get away to. Im sure your family will be fine looking after the kids, some nanna and Gramps time, they will be spoilt rotten. Try and not feel guilty about leaving them. It was never a hardship on my 2 when we left them. Go and have fun, the kids will be ok.

How did you get your airmiles card upgraded to gold? I've been using the blue one forever? I have a Premier HSBC card though. I dont think the airmiles card gets upgraded to gold, Is there some confusion with skywards???? the blue airmiles is a completely different card. edited by salsB on 12/03/2011
