Definitely take the bassinet. We recently did a 6 hour night flight and baby slept the whole way I did feed her twice in between but she slept right through. Do you use any carrier? We love the ergo as soon as you tuck her in she falls asleep so that was our plan b If she wouldn't sleep in the bassinet. Good luck, first flights are scary but usually get over fast

Hi Sami Sorry for late reply, I did 5 days in hospital, two and a half weeks bed rest at home upstairs bedroom only with bathroom and shower privileges and now one and a half weeks more relaxed house arrest. I am hoping to last another 4 weeks to get to 36 weeks and then hopefully we will do the c-section. If you don't mind me asking how early did you deliver? I am 31.2 weeks today. Went a little stir crazy yesterday but its a mind over matter thing, I have good days and bad days. Thanks for the reply Sunseeker123 You are doing so good keep it up! 31 weeks is really good my goal was 32 weeks as the lungs are almost mature and babies don't need much support if born then. I delivered way early though at 26 weeks as I developed an infection and HELLP syndrome my organs started failing so they had to take her out. Baby stayed in the nicu for 3 long months but home since July and doing so well. If house arrest is a bit relaxed maybe you can rent a wheelchair and go to the movies? Check with your OB first of course otherwise just keep positive and know that once you meet your goal of 36 weeks your baby will be coming home with you safely and soundly. Im glad you are doing well. Keep me posted

Sorry to ask this ladies, but i had gynae surgery on thursday last week, and really struggling to go to the toilet still. The hospital advised me to take lactulose syrup which did nothing, and now they said glycerin suppositories... which again didnt do anything. Can anyone recommend anything else i could try ?? Im feeling even more bloated and swolen now, when i wanted my stomach to be going down and getting easier :( Hi nickym1d, I had similar problems when I had my second baby and the midwife (in Melbourne) suggested (Metamucil) Gel/ fibre drink. I don't think it is available in Dubai but happy to share my bottle which I brought back with me hopefully it will help. Let me know if you want me to save some for you. Fybogel is the equivalent of Metamucil here available in all pharmacies. Goodluck

DD takes upto an hour for each feed but has been gaining well I was worried in the beginning as she might not be getting enough milk but in reality she just enjoys sucking. I have tried to introduce the pacifier and she hates it. one tip I got was to do breast compressions while feeding her that increases the flow at times and is satisfying for the babies. If you haven't already join the la leche UAE group on Facebook they are very helpful. LMAO- hope you are doing well otherwise. If finances are an issue why don't you drop by and see Sameera at city hospital? I went to see her without an appointment to ask a quick question and we ended up talking or 30 minutes. She didn't charge me and was very helpful and gave me a few tips. Hope it all works out in the end.

Hi I was on bed rest in march so I understand what you must be going through. My bed rest only lasted a few weeks as I ended up delivering pre term. The first two weeks are the hardest on bed rest make sure you download loads of shows, movies and some books. I ended up getting an iPad a month before and it was such a blessing. Are you on complete bed rest or modified? I used to stretch once a day to feel a bit better . Also there's a great group on babycenter for bedrest pregnancies join it to keep yourself more company and if you ever need to vent let me know I would be happy to chat. Hope you rest goes well and baby cooks for long. edited by sami on 28/08/2012

Thank you all for your input/information. I just found out I can't register at Latifa since our visas are from Sharjah, despite living in Dubai. I contacted Welcare and their NICU just added more beds and they can take babies from 23 weeks! Luckily our insurance covers NICU in full. So now I have an appointment scheduled at Welcare just so I can be an established patient. I'm still unsure of how early American takes babies but plan to ask my OB at my appointment on Sunday. I'm planning on doing appointments at Welcare as well until American can deliver my baby. Keep the baby cooking and hope you make it full term everyday inside is so precious for the babies And fingers crossed this is all moot anyway and that I make it full term! :D

City takes on from 25 weeks as well I had my 26 week preemie delivered there. I was registered at city though. Does your insurance have a limit for nicu? If the baby is extremely preterm most limits run out for private hospitals personally I would register at Latifa. City Nicu is highly recommended

Hi WB Please get an appointment asap and get this sorted my open cervix was discovered at 24 weeks which was really late and only one doc agreed to put in a stitch. It was successful and got me till 27 weeks where i had an emergency c-section to deliver my baby due to a life threatening infection. Also since you have what doctors would consider an incompetent or shortening cervix you would be considered high risk and i cant urge you enough to register at Latifa (Al Wasl) hospital they have the best NICU in UAE i pray that you will never need it but please don't make the same mistakes that I did. I really don't want to scare or stress you out but please be vigilant and take care of yourself and the baby.

Thanks ladies , she is 8 days old and I haven't yet held her in my arms. I feel so silly complaining about being on bed rest before I wish I could take it all back and have a healthy baby. I know it's not my fault but I really wish I had one of those boring pregnancies more than anything.

Sadly I ended up with a life threatening condition and had to deliver last Friday. The baby is doing fine given that she is only 27 weeks and will spend some time in nicu. It's been a horrible week the baby is on a ventilator and fighting an infection currently but inshallah she will fight back. Please remember us in your prayers and pray that my baby girl comes home safely.

Hi Sami, I am so shocked to read your review. Actually I had decided to go for Dr Grace after reading several threads here. I am currently going to Dr. Jaimala Shukla, but since she does not do deliveries I will have to shift to some other doctor in 28 weeks. I did my first with Dr. Luthra @ Medcare and do no wish to go to her again. So far what I have gathered here is good reviews for Dr Elsa, Dr Grace and Dr Rajalaxmi. Which doctor are you seeing now? I am sorry to cause you worry scorpion but I was hospitalized for over two weeks and almost lost the baby and my own life. I am now on bed rest for the rest of my pregnancy and even then the doctors think I will not make it past 32 weeks. I don't want to tarnish anyone's reputation but would hate to see anyone else suffer. I am now with Dr. Azizunnissa at city, a lot of doctors refused to take my case but Dr. A took the risk and saved our lives.

I NO longer recommend her shhe screwed up a perfectly normal pregnancy and told us she can't do a last minute surgery to save the baby. No doctor was ready to take our case till the head of OB at city heard our story. I have logged an official complaint against dr. Grace please be careful ladies maybe it was my luck but I don't want anyone else going through what I faced.

Hello Ladies !!.. Those who are delivering with Dr Grace, can you let us know her delivery charges @ City or any other hospital she is tied to? Since now she is moved to DMMC, I assume she would not have a package and would act as a external doctor delivering there? Hi scorpion I have previously recommended dr grace but not anymore she screwed up a perfectly normal pregnancy for me and refused to operate on me last minute to save the baby. We ended up changing our doctors the night before my surgery, I don't wish to discourage you but I would hate for anyone else to go through the trauma I faced. I have logged an official complaint against her as well.

Thanks for all the lovely wishes ladies I am better and more positive today. It's been a hard year I lost my only brother last year and I just feel like I never get a break from life. The baby is a fighter though so I have no excuses for being a glum bum anymore. I don't know about the ante natal classes at city but the midwives are fab I have asked so many questions and they always answer patiently. Two of them are now DH's new best friend as he wanted to be strong in front of me but would sit speak and speak to them about worse case scenarios :) Glad everyone is doing well

Great ideas I'm getting excited now Great ideas ladies I'm getting excited now Beebers - I know what you mean I'm competitive at times and would drive myself nuts with a petty issue maybe a good time to learn to relax and let go. Mum2girls-initially i was on full bed rest since the doc had no hope but I'm doing well and she agreed to modified bed rest bathroom breaks allowed and shower every other day in a sitting position. I'm a grey addict so I'm all caught up with the series my doc even reminds me of Addison lol Purple- was on hospital bed rest but now going home yay I will have people staying over and supervising so can't cheat plus I've wanted a baby for so long i am willing to do anything. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who has to go through this though.

Thanks ladies reading all your replies has giving me lots of positive energy, I am still at City as they need to keep me under constant supervision. Should be able to go home end of the week but will be on strict bed rest I was feeling frustruated hearing all this but its all worth it for the baby. The midwives are beyond amazing and keep my spirits up my new doc is nothing less than an angel as no other OB in dubai would take on our case. Plumie-thank you for the offer family has been keeping me company constantly but appreciate your offer.

what about the fish restaurant near the burj al arab beach - also similar setting to ravis. Is that the one on the beach. Shack like? I have never been there but heard it was great :-) here it is - http://www.apronsandhammers.com/ Aprons and Hammers! I think they meant Bu Qtair the one that serves the fried fish and prawns that are caught on the same day.

hello other july mamas! I'm due July 25th insha'Allah, have our 20 week scan next week and will hopefully find out gender! I'm curious as to who your doctors are? I'm going to Dr Shiva at Medcare and found her to be pleasant so far, but have heard mixed reviews about her and the hospital! Lately I've started feeling baby kick (yay!) and been craving alot of meat which is unusual for me! Best of luck to all you lovely ladies :) Welcome to the group. I see Dr. Grace at City, a lot of the July girls are with Dr.Elsa at City.

beatles19- dont think you need to be worried with every pre natal check up your bp and urine is checked, atleast mine is since 12 weeks. I was diagnosed since my bp was constatnly higher than 140/90 or borderline 139/86. The OB's pick up anything suspicious right away so enjoy your pregnancy!

I just got diagnosed with gestational hypertension so i will watch this thread as well, they also found a trace of protein and I was referred to an internal medicine doctor. Since I am only 21 weeks if it gets worse i will need to be put on bp medicine, so far i have just been told to drink a lot of water, rest and cut out salt. Also, if you are monitoring your bp you need to do it 3 times a day, so morning, afternoon and night as it tends to fluctuate throughout the day. Goodluck Pixie2011 i hope things go well for you.

Rest and medication help too, the doctor was a bit hesitant to start with medication right away as once you take it i need to continue for the rest of the pregnancy. By the way I ended up going to Dr. Munira as Dr. Grace was away, you were right she is AMAZING such a shame that she doesnt deliver though. We will try to see the gender in the next appointment in a week and half if the baby is co-operative enough :)

It's another GIRL for us!!! :D It honestly is a dream come true! I don't have sisters, and spent most of my childhood wishing I had a sister! I almost cannot believe my wish is coming true and with them being so close together, my last wish is that they grow up to be the bestest of friends :P Congratulations!!! We had the 20 week scan on Saturday and although we really wanted to find out the *** the baby had other plans and just wouldnt uncross the legs. Tried different positions for 15 minutes but its a stubborn little thing like its father so we are still on Team Green. Unfortunately I have now been diagnosed with gestational hypertension and been advised to rest and take it easy and try to cut additional salt from my food. Not very fun as all i seem to be craving is salty food. Hope all the other ladies are doing well.

we went last year and stayed at the Hilton it is literally two steps away from the entrance. Dont have kids so no experience there but for some weird reason our baggage got delayed for two hours at the Jeddah airport as the EK staff didnt tag it properly here so carry some extra food etc for the kids because there is nothing available in the airport. For the 6 month old you can always take a carrier a lot of people were using them.

Also check out Kharbash tower on the oppsite side same building as Dubai bank, the apartments are nice and airy and maintainence is great. It takes literally 2 mintues to get to DIFC i do it everyday. The other tower to look at would be the one with Zaatar n Zeit at the bottom, its a better homes building and very well maintained. The apartments however are a bit on a smaller side and the building is always under full occupancy.

Hey Liv! Glad to hear you've settled on a hospital! One less thing to think about now!! Im considering changing my Dr but to someone at the same hospital as my current one (infact their offices are literally next door to each other!!) I've been stressing about how to tell my current dr if i do decide to change. how do you reckon you're going to tell yours? :s Are you finally switching to Dr. Elsa? Just tell the other doc I assume Dr. Ibrahim that your DH prefers a female doctor instead. When all fails just blame the husband :)

Dr. Grace is really nice, she's not one of those talkative doctors, but really calm and composed, and best in what she does. I agree orchard she is an oasis of comfort ! i saw three more OB's before I chose her. She was the only one who really took interest asked me about my work, previous medical records etc. She is also very open to questions my DH always has the weirdest questions and she answers them all patiently.
