I would recommend Catherine at TDCC for an assessment my daughter was evaluated by her in the past few months and she is truly amazing. Also my daughter is slightly speech delayed and shy in interacting with other kids but that's just who she not all toddlers are outgoing some are shy by nature.

Hi Almac I went into labour with an incompetent cervix at 23 weeks my OB at that time said she could not do anything and literally left my baby to die. I was admitted at City hospital at that time and we decided to fight with everything and the only doctor willing to take the risk and do the stitch was Dr. Azizunissa. As kelly1814 says she is the head of the department and I too had hardly any cervix left no other doctor in Dubai was willing to take my case for obvious reasons. My stitch was successful but I did develop an infection a few weeks later which was a risk which we knew we were facing. My daughter was delivered prematurely and I owe both our lives to Dr. Azizunissa. I'm sorry about your previous loss I hope and pray your pregnancy goes well.

Hi Semsema I still highly recommend Dr.Azizunissa .Try and book an appointment with her and let her know of your concerns. I never felt my appointment were rushed and she always explained her answers very well. I don't think they give out the mobile number out as they have hundreds of patients but if you have high risk pregnancy (I did) she will give it to you personally usually for a general question or concern I would contact her through her nurse and always got an answer within a few hours. Good luck with your pregnancy and I hope you find a doc you like.

I highly recommend Dr. Rais at City and Kids First. We have been going to him since discharge with our 26 week preemie he always replies backs to text messages does not over medicate and is very patient and comforting to new NICU mom fears. Kids First also has a great team of OT, PT and speech services which some preemies may need and is always good to have a specialized team close by. Good luck with their NICU stay and I hope they come home soon! edited by sami on 25/11/2013

Hi My DD was born 26 weeks and stayed at CityNICU as back2blonde says both the consultants are amazing and are there for the rounds in the mornings. They are always willing to speak to parents and there is always a doctor on duty in NICU 24hours who can update you in terms of your child's progress. The NICU staff in general is very helpful we always asked a lot of questions and visited at all hours we were even given a room at times as my daughter was seriously ill and they weren't how she would do overnight. They also had a lactation consultation at the hospital she is off on weekends though. I wish you the best of luck and wish you a full term pregnant having had a preemie myself I hope no child goes through the NICU experience.

Hi, congratulations on your pregnancy! I don't have any experience with the OB or delivering at Canadian Specialist but I have met the head neonatologist and he is definitely one of the best in Dubai. He used to head the NICU in Latifa previously and some of the nurses also came along with him. My preemie was however delivered in City hospital and both the OB care and NICU were great, I do hope you have a good insurance in place as preemie care/NICU is very expensive in Dubai. Preemie clothes are easily available in babyshop and mothercare. Good luck and I wish you a healthy and full term pregnancy.

Congratulations kelly1814 I too also enjoyed your posts and also liked your blog! I had an emergency cerclage too with her and she was the only doc who was willing to do it in Dubai due to the risk factor. I'm so glad you have Dr. Azizunissa by your side she truly is the best and I owe her my life! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy I hope it goes smoothly.

Hi sakn Congratulations on your baby. I had a preemie at 26 weeks so extremely premature compared to yours but having been through similar issues I'm sure I can help. I didn't use any pacifiers for dummies as my DD never liked them. As for a bath we used to give one every other day with warm water and usually just a sponge wash on the other days. The docs I recommend are Dr. Talal Farha at healthcare city or Dr. Syed Rais Ahmed at city and kids first. If your baby is choking maybe the flow is too fast for him or he might have mild reflux which is common for preemies. We had a bassinet but didn't use it much our daughter preferred co sleeping so she slept in our bed.

Love Dr. Azizunissa! She is the only doctor in Dubai willing to take on the most complicated cases. I had a different OB who refused to save my baby's life when I went into labour at 24 weeks Dr. Azizunissa stepped in and saved her and my life. As KenzaB says you will now be in good hands!

I can understand where you are coming from. Private medical care is a money making machine but I always felt comfortable with my OB and never felt like she pushed any extra tests on me. I'm not sure what the gestational age for your first preemie was but in Dubai late preemies I.e. 33 weeks+ are also kept under observation for a few days. In the end it's really your decision and what you are at peace with, if you have family and extra help back home I would definitely consider it. I wish you the best and a full term pregnancy :)

Hi As hard as it is to be on bed rest it's worse having a pre term baby and seeing them go through NICU. Keep yourself busy with books, movies, or start a new sitcom. There is an active bed rest group on babycenter? Good luck and I wish you a safe and full term delivery.

If your insurance isn't great I would sign up for Latifa or Dubai hospital which have the best government NICU in Dubai. That would still cost you anywhere form AED 3900 per night for critical care to AED 1900 per night for special care nursery the cost mentioned above are per child. City hospital has a great NICU I delivered my 26 week preemie there but it is extremely expensive. The minimum cost in City is AED 5000 per night and that does not include medication, test and any other expenses. The doctors at both City and Government hospital are fantastic and very well versed in premature neonatal care. Good luck with your pregnancy and I wish you go full term!

Hi Lynette I was on bed rest last year and had a hard time as well I went from working 50 hours a weeks to a flat bed with head down position and was not even allowed to move to use the bathroom, it really felt awful. Sadly it didn't last long as my complications made me deliver pre term. However horrible bed rest is delivering an extremely pre term child is even worse so stay motivated and try not to be too depressed it really does effect the baby. I loved following blogs while on bed rest, babycenter also has a bed rest club which is quite active. I also stared reading The Hunger Games series which I got addicted too. Do you have someone to help out with the cleaning and cooking? I wold love to come by for a chat if you are ever up to it. Good luck and I wish you a full term healthy baby.

I can only speak for City Hospital, my ds was in and out of there for up to six weeks, He was full term but had a few difficulties and the NICU were fabulous, he is just two years old now and we still keep in touch with those amazing people, it is expensive up to 5k per night but I believe Latifa are also fanctastic and they charge 4k per night, the only diffference is at city your baby will have one on one care if needed, as far as I;m aware at Latifa it is two babies per Nurse. The 4k per night at Latifa includes all tests and medication and is the maximum per day you have to pay at City there is no set limit. We were charged up to 15k per day when my daughter was critical. That being said we loved the nurses and care at City and recently went back to celebrate her first birthday with them.

Latifa is the best follows by Dubai hospital both are government. For private care I would recommend City hospital. NICU care is highly expensive in Dubai so please be prepared for the costs. Wish you a full term pregnancy.

Hi Bex Congratulations on your twin pregnancy. I am a mother of twins that were born last year at City Hospital. They were born at 32 weeks so spent some time in the NICU. I cannot give you a complete breakdown of costs as both twins needed different care but for the 2 weeks that they had care they clocked up over 100k each, eye watering if we didn't have insurance. Thankfully we had insurance for them. We use Aetna insurance as I was covered by AXA but my husband switched his as they provide you with new born cover, even if its the dad only on the policy (he did this 3 months before I gave birth) Have a look at Aetna or leave the country, if you stay and your twins are born early the last thing you want to do is worry about money when your babies need the care. Wishing you a healthy and Long pregnancy. X I have Aetna as well but they do have a 12 month waiting period for new policies, also their NICU limit is USD 100,000 only.

Hi City NICU costs are high, my Dd was born 26 weeks preemie and our bills were enormous. The fixed cost are about 5000 DH's per day which includes the bed charges and daily consumables. All other charges are additional on the days my daughter was critically ill the bills went upto 15k per day. If you don't have insurance you should consider going home or registering at Latifa hospital which has a level 3 NICU and the maximum cost per day would be 4k.

Hi My baby stayed in the NICU for 3 months she was a 26 week preemie and as crazy days said the docs and nurses are fabulous. We are still in touch with most of them and some have become as close as family. i was initially given a lodger room in the hospital after my discharge as my baby was quite critical and I needed to be close to her at all times I think this has recently changed as the NICU has expanded and they can't really give a room to all parents. You will however be allowed to room in a night or two before discharge so that they can monitor the baby and you are comfortable taking care of your little one. They are also very pro breastfeeding which I really liked as far as the consultants there are two main ones Dr. Abdulazeim and Dr. Zaheruddin both are amazing and they switch shifts every week so it depends when your baby will be born and whoever the consultant will be on duty. We had Dr. Azeem and he means the world to us I never thought my baby would survive but he believed in her and never gave up. Both have practiced in the UK and are very easy to talk to and have positive personalities which is such a must in NICU. We are following up with our paed now who is also based in city but I do pop into NICU to speak to the consultant if I ever need extra assurance and he is always very happy to do so. I hope your baby doesn't spend too long in there I ended up renting a hospital grade pump to use as it was very efficient and the store bought Medela is not very good when you have to pump ever three hours. If you need any extra info or looking for someone to speak with while in NICU feel free to contact me. Best of luck and hope your baby doesn't need the NCU.

I met with Samira a few times. She was really supportive and gave lots of advice. She put me on Motillium to help encourage breastfeeding. I definitely recommend getting a hospital grade breast pump. Good luck, its not easy... but with perseverance and eating and drinking right I am sure you will sort it out. Unfortunately it didn't happen for me, but I have a preemie and actually the formula is very good for her anyway and I was never going to be allowed to EBF because she needs the extra nutrients that are in the formula anyway. So don't beat yourself up about it. But I do know what I would change for next time if at all possible... I'm sorry I disagree with you breastmilk is the best thing for preemies especially for their brain development also when you deliver prematurely your milk has enzymes and antibodies hat protect your child from infection and illness. I'm sorry bf didn't work out i am not sure why you were not allowed to breastfeed if your preemie needed more calories and nutrients breast milk can be fortified with human milk fortifier and/or special preemie formula. I hope your preemie is doing well.

I have an incompetent cervix and the only doctor who was willing to save my baby at 24 weeks was Dr. Azizunissa at City hospital. You will need a stitch at 12 weeks and also get your cervix measured periodically also please try to take it easy with a weak cervix although not proven modified bed rest helps a lot during such pregnancies. There is also a incompetent cervix board on babycenter which is quite helpful. Edited to add I got a cerclage done the stitch was successful but I have another complication so had to deliver pre term. edited by sami on 02/01/2013

Hi SQ Good job for bf your son so far and especially for not listening to your family. I hate how unsupportive families have become when it comes to breastfeeding my mil also kept telling me at DD woke up frequently in the night as I didn't have enough milk but this was not true breast milk is easily digested so the babies wake up more often during the night also at 4 months he is quite young my daughter woke up every 3 hours for a feed till 5 months she then dropped a feed in between and now at 6 months sleeps almost 6 hours straight before waking up. I usually consulted the La Leche League UAE ladies every time I had an issue concerning breastfeeding and they are very helpful and very prompt in replying back. https://www.facebook.com/groups/lll.uae/

Dubaicitychick I have one through something similar as well my DD was born very prematurely and we were told several times that she would not live through the night. She has now been home for several month and doing so well mashallah. I had an amazing job which I truly loved but I gave it up so that I could stay home with her. My parents were not very happy about it and my mom thinks I spoil her by holding her too much but as a parent of a critically ill child we have missed physical contact with our babies for weeks and months. We had to ask permission to touch and hold our babies ( I was allowed to hold her for the first time when she was a month old !) we may hug a little tighter, we are reluctant to give our babies to others, but be gentle with us, we have been through a lot. Unless you have ever had to ask permission to hold your baby, don't judge us. My point is that it is totally normal to feel this way I love the lack of sleep, the teething and can't stop talking about her either. There is only such a short time when they are so small enjoy him now.

Dr. Prasan Rao in Welcare is one of the best pediatric opthomologist in dubai. Purple I remember you mentioning that your children were preemies did you son have ROP? It's a common preemie condition and usually they do end up with a lazy eye. I highly recommend Dr. Rao he did a laser surgery for DD for ROP and we had great results.
