CP, after 9 months on the ground I have a 9.5 hour flight on Sunday :( I think I will try the glass of water (sure as heck won't be water, though) trick.

I have no answers for you but I do remember you. I'm sorry you haven't settled back home. I left the UAE in June, but not for my home country (also UK). I have settled in my new country though.

I bought a Miele vacuum last year on Sanddy Dogg's recommendation (the pet hair one although we dont live with pets) from the Sheikh Zayed Rd showroom, and am very happy with it. I buy the replacement bags from Amazon UK. I'm a careful spender, and I feel that this vacuum is worth the money paid. I've since moved to Canada but still bought a Miele vacuum cleaner when I got here :D

At one point we understood that they could not, they would have to obtain a temporary UAE license ([b'>which, it seemed, did not actually exist).[/b'>:biggrin:

Unless the rues have changed recently then no, they can't - they'll have to hire a vehicle. I had a nice explanation from my insurers which unfortunately I can't find. Basically they said it was a grey area. If something happened and the police said it was ok, they'd cover it but if the police said it was not ok then the driver wouldn't be insured.

Hi, I didn't use an agency. I applied under Family Sponsorship as my husband is Canadian. I got more info from here http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/index.php than I eve did off the official Canadian Immigration website.

For us, Crown's quote was 20k more than ISS. GAC were as expensive as Crown.

A friend and I both used ISS (Inchcape Shipping Services) to different locations earlier this year. Both of us were very happy with the service and I have no issue recommending them. We used Re-Co who came and did the survey then got quotes from various companies for us to choose from, saving us a lot of legwork. There was no charge to us for Re-Co's services.

They're expensive enough in Canada, I can't imagine how much they'll charge in the UAE.

Are you aware that if the dog and crate is more than 32kg, she can't fly as excess baggage with Emirates? There are some flight buddy groups on Facebook, if you haven't already posted there. Good luck.

ISS (Inchcape Shipping Services) was who ReCo directed both my friend and I through (ReCo organised everything). Both my unpackers here, and my friend's unpackers in another country, both said how well the ISS staff packed everything.

Nakheel is about the only place you'll find keycutters - and they will want to see your EID, unlike Minutes. The place I went to is called Golden Key Services. If you type "Golden Key, Ras Al Khaimah" into Google Earth it will show you where it is. I don't know about RAK Mall area but there are a couple o passport photo places on Airport Road on the same side as Safeer Mall.

For a contract phone - unless the rules have changed - you need proof of salary (or someone with proof of salary to put the contract in your name). As a housewife I couldn't get a contract so we just put it in DH's name instead.

Is your phone locked to Orange? If it's not locked then all you need to do is get a new SIM card when you arrive.

Aramex are more concerned with what's being sent than who's sending it - they don't care because you're paying for the service after all. We always told family to send gifts etc to our S&S address rather than to our UAE address because it's a safer way to send stuff.

Chippy, that sounds about right for the EU health cert and yes, they can both go on the same cert. Only the municipality vets at cargo village can issue that. What the vets are quoting 150-225 for is possibly for the form that they need to complete which is required for the EU health cert. The EU Health Cert is definitely not that low.

His sponsor needs to cancel it, if it is not concelled he can't enter the country. Why doesn't he cancel it before leaving? OP said in her first post that the sponsor signatory is not available to do it.

You can't take any animal into the UK as excess baggage. All animals must enter the UK as manifested cargo. As well as differing cargo rates charged by different airlines, the costs at the other end vary airport by airport too. LHR is the most expensive. LGW is quite a bit cheaper. Try to get a flight that arrives in the morning on a weekday. Clearance out of office hours, on weekends or on bank holidays can be around £500 from memory.

The vet check is part of getting the export health certificate from the government vet at MoEW in Cargo Village. If you do it yourself you have to take the pet. If you get a relocator to do it then the pet doesn't need to go.
