I prefer beer. I'd also like to know when's the best time to have one a night [url=http://tinyurl.com/34r8n8m'>link[/url'> Seriously though, I'd save my glass for after dinner. I would look forward to it and savour it more.

what rubbish. the thread was full of helpful advice and concern for the missing woman. "Power to the people"? Sounds like a man wrote it to me. Probably someone p***ed off with his wife who constantly b*tches about their maid.

Sorry to divert back to the accident, but I've read reports on the Al Tayer accident in 3 different national newspapers and all three give a different road on which the accident occurred. It doesn't say too much about the quality and accuracy of news reporting in the country.

Can't you just show up at the consulate and obtain document to your DD? Why can't you say the girl have no father, then you are the sole parent? sorry to say that, but I guess the father is not keen on taking care of his DD and he just twisting your arm... so can't you go that way? How would explain that the child has no father?

Same here. I'm so sorry you've drawn a blank every way you've turned, I can only imagine your frustration. I really do hope you can find someone who can help you get what you need. Hopefully unnecessary, but I would wonder if your husband is planning to try and come back and gain custody of your DD. He seems to have set everything up to hold all of her legal documentation and it seems that he's left you in a position where it's difficult to even prove she's your child. Please be careful, and I wish you both the very best of luck, I wish I could do something to help.

You should also be able to get a copy of her birth certificate, and then hopefully a replacement passport. i would have thought whoever issued her visa initially would have record of it so would be able to put another in her new passport (fingers crossed!) Good luck.

There are many new Canadians who have no intention or desire to live in Canada long term. I work with one (and have worked with others who have no intention of living anywhere else but Canada). Someone referred to the former as Canadianese. They have met the terms and conditions of the Canadian government to get a Canadian passport. I would like the Canadian government, as do many other countries, require immigrants to renounce their "citizenship" with their birth country and take on the Canadian passport only. The person I work with has no intention of returning to Canada and will live in a 3rd world country until and unless (witness Beirut in 2005) they feel they "need" to go to Canada at the expense of the Canadian regular citizen. Before anyone asks. I spend 2 - 3 months in Canada (vacation time) per year and have no desire to live anywhere else permanently (I live in the GCC and earn $$$ like 99.99% of all of the expats here togo back to my HOME country and retire and spend $$ and pay taxes). The person I specifically refer to has no desire or intention of doing that, his idiotic email messages reflect it "greetings from God's country Kerala" and his real estate investments there (and divestments in Canada) confirm it. He is not shy about using the Canadian immigration system - and that's what burns most Canadians, you want to come you want to stay you want to contribute, welcome!! Otherwise, make your own country work. In many instances you have a democracy (in this particular case the largest in the world) - USE IT. *applauds*

Hopefully regular mail won't be a problem. I guess it depends on the screening process of the carrier in the US. Mine was shipped internally in the UK to my Shop & Shop address but it was Aramex who refused to carry it from the UK to the UAE due to a liquid being inside. My fault for not checking Aramex/Shop & Ship rules in ages.

Not quite the same, but our 4 bed plus maids (no study) ranged from 500 in January to 2000 in August. This was NOT including housing fee.

My DD went through 5 years of primary at DIA, DS did 1 year. Had no major issues with primary, thought it was fine. However, I'm glad DD didn't have to do secondary there and know a lot of people have been very unhappy with it.

Don't know where you can get them in Dubai apart from Duty Free, but Chocolat is a small company run by 2 Swiss Chocolatiers in RAK and their chocolates are simply divine.

It does seem as if it will be the same show as last year. We won't be going this year as we've moved and it's now too far, but I know DS would still be thrilled to see it, same show or not. My DD, who was 10 when she saw it, was more interested in Kevin E Levin ;)

I took my kids to see this last year at the Palladium. DS was completely awestruck by it and even I thought it was very well done. I've never seen so many Ben 10 t-shirts under one roof.

Can you imagine if this was legal? All these girlfriends would be being told to pretend they're the housemaid so they don't get busted for living illegally together! Fun times explaining to the police [b'>why a 27 year old British woman with a degree is a cleaner...[/b'> So you don't think the line, "Well she can earn more as a cleaner here than she can in her own country" will wash then?

I think it's sensible to get a letter if you're worried. I will be getting one from DH next time I travel. I'm British, he's Canadian and I've been asked in Germany and Canada. It'll be me writing the letter or no objection anyway LOL!

I've never had a problem exiting the country, however, in a couple of countries I've been questioned and advised to get a letter from my husband giving his permission for me to travel alone with the children.

Further to Gorobattie's post, is it right that Ginnee won't be able to sponsor another maid (should she want to!) until this one is found, visa cancelled, left the country/transferred to someone else etc etc?

It will depend on the finished weight of it. As a guide, one that I have is about 3cm long and quite thick. It's for a 5 letter, 2 syllable name and weighs 4g. Check the price of silver and be sure to allow some for the work. The chain will be extra. edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 01/01/2011
