I'll believe it when I see it. The last big news for that development was Real Madrid building a football stadium with one side open to the sea. That seems to have fallen by the wayside...

No it's not on FEWA and the bills are horrendous. I'm one of many who left MAA because of the rip-off charges. I believe electricity prices are 50 or 52 fils per unit (compared to the 23 fils I now pay on FEWA). Rumour is that it'll never be on FEWA.

In most places in the world, mutton means older sheep. As the others have said, mutton here is goat meat. I've asked in Carrefour and Spinneys and been told the same.

I really wouldn't take the risk. This is what I was told by AXA: [i'>With regards to the driver, I’m afraid that this is a very grey area. The key message is that as long as the police at the time of an accident say the driver without a UAE licenice is covered, then AXA will cover in the event of a claim. My emphasis is on the words at the time of an accident. So, if the police decide should an accident occur that the driver should not have been driving, then AXA will not cover. AXA cannot and should not add any named driver to a policy where they do not hold a UAE licence. It may well help for you to get a letter from the RTA confirming that the driver is ok to drive, however this would be more for your peace of mind and something to evidence to the police in the unfortunate event that something happens. Very simply, the decision about whether we cover would be down to what the police attending an accident decide, and AXA cannot offer you any assurance or guarantees about this.[/i'> edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 09/02/2015

They did this a while ago in Spinneys in RAK. When I was in there last week I looked to make sure I wasn't in the Halal lane and the cashier said "We don't do that any more"

It's quiet now but I think this was the most violent storm I've seen in 10 years in the UAE. I'm in RAK and it seems we got the worst of it. Weather report says it will get bad again later.

If you want to save good money whilst in Dubai, watch your outgoings, and have two incomes - and not a non existent TA salary, get a well paid second job. For child care use your maid and use your evenings / weekends wisely for homework and reading support. So many western women come over here and just stop working - you wouldn't do that in your home country, unless very wealthy, so why on earth would you do it here and still expect to save. Fine not to work and and put your priorities elsewhere but don't complain about lack of savings and life getting more expensive. Majority of countries in 'developed' societies rely on two wages coming in for people to attain the material life they want and save for the level of comfort they want in old age. Ladies - step up, re start your career with some proper personal and monetary ambition. GENIUS!!! Why didn't we think of that? *sigh*

The flip up lids are different - you have to break the seals yourself, but the screw lids break their own seals when you open them.
