I use it very frequently. You just need to be aware of what the shipping costs will be to make sure you don't get ripped off. This can be an issue with heavy items. Find out the shipping weight first them look on the Shop & Ship website to find out the cost. Very often, even with the shipping costs it's still cheaper than buying locally (especially Lego!)

If it's a round screw top with two 'prongs' inside the cap, then the prongs break the seal as you open it, so every one you unscrew will be open.

If you know you will be here, for sure, for 10 years or more, then maybe, but any less, I'd say no. We bought a place and had to wait 3 years for it to be completed. By the time it was handed over to us we'd decided we didn't want to be in the UAE any more but we couldn't leave whilst having such a huge tie. The stress of trying, and failing, to sell it was awful. We thought we'd never be able to leave. Finally it did sell and we're on our way next year, but it took 4 years post-crash to sell it.

I prefer it this way. If the post isn't of interest to me I can see at a glance. I don't have to do page changes and scrolling just to find out I'm not interested in it.

I commented on Claire's original thread :) I don't live in Al Hamra but know a lot of people who do. Some love it there, quite a few are leaving because of very high utility bills (most places are not on FEWA). I have two kids who went to RAK Academy. I moved my DD to boarding school in the UK in year 10 and we are leaving the UAE for good next summer so my DS doesn't have to go to RAKA secondary. I have no major complaints about primary but I'm not prepared to put my kids through secondary. Many RAK residents send their children to school in Sharjah or Ajman Academy and don't regret it.

[, this is more interesting than a bearded ozzie baby deliverer [strike'>who was great[/strike'>. My second was delivered in an emergency situation by a man. Really, the only important factor was that my baby was safely delivered by the person in the mask at the business end. I really can't get all gaspy or pearl-clutchy at the fact that the person who made sure that we are both here safely today was a *whispers* man...

No way. Never. A guy touching my feet? Ugh. Manicure is for the hands. He will not touch your feet. Same difference, no way I allow any man to touch any part of my body. Unless I am dying and need urgent medical care. Marriage could be tricky. ROFL!

As others have said, as long as he is good at his job then I wouldn't be remotely concerned. If it's in a salon I doubt he's be after molesting my hands. I had make up done by a guy in a Mac store in KL and he did a much better job than the trowel-merchant women in the DFC Mac store. edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 01/12/2014

Thanks Sandfly. I'm not sure what they need so I guess I should try and find out, but they didn;t seem to know themselves. If you can email me on lazylakite @ yahoo . co . uk I'll give you more details about why I need this. ETA I took it to the NP at the court here in RAK and they told me they don't do that. edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 13/11/2014

I have a Shop & ship account http://www.shopandship.com/ Sorry if I'm telling you something you already know, but..... You pay a one-off fee for your S&S account and you are given your own addresses in the US, UK and other countries. If you order from amazon.com you give your US S&S address and the item will be sent there. S&S will then forward the item on to the UAE where Aramex will deliver by courier to you or you can collect from the local Aramex office. You pay a shipping fee from the US to the UAE and it's based on weight. The rates are displayed on the S&S website and Amazon will give the shipping weight. With Lego I've found that even with the shipping costs it's still cheaper than buying here.

I took a dog and two cats to canada with KLM in the summer and they are great. The uk is a little more tricky as animals arriving by air must enter as cargo. It could be possible to fly into AMS then ferry (to certain ports only) into the uk

Where are you flying to? Emirates will allow cats and dogs to be carried as excess baggage to Canada, the US, Brazil and Argentina - countries where "piece concept" applies. I'm not aware of any other countries EK fly to where they will take pets as excess.

KLM will charge $200 to Europe or North America per pet (or carrier - in the case of kittens or puppies that can travel in The same crate) as excess baggage. However, if there is more than a 2 hour layover then each pet is subject to an additional compulsory $200 charge for use of the pet hotel. I know this from recent experience.

This guy supplies 7 different types of crates and will deliver in Dubai and Sharjah. http://dubai.dubizzle.com/classified/pets/pet-accessories/dog-supplies/2014/9/5/pet-carrier-for-large-dogs-2/?back=ZHViYWkuZHViaXp6bGUuY29tL3NlYXJjaC8%2Fa2V5d29yZHM9Z3VsbGl2ZXImaXNfYmFzaWNfc2VhcmNoX3dpZGdldD0xJmlzX3NlYXJjaD0x&pos=3 I've bought three crates from him. Don't use the email option from Dubizzle, call or Whatsapp him. Have you checked your airline will allow pets in the cabin?

I would definitely make it clear to him that you are not prepared to lend any money. However, I would not contact the police. So many of these men here are desperately trying to support huge extended families living in war torn areas and have often gone into debt to get here in the first place. Their situations are very sad and often, without hope. Be kind. Well said.

No, not if you're the one signing for them as their parent/guardian. There's a section you sign to say that you are in the UK. They do check. I know this from bitter experience.

You're supposed to prove you've spent so many days out of the last 5 years in Canada. I'm starting the permanent residency process (and yes, I I tend to stay there. We're in the final stages of buying our family home). I joined a forum relating to Canadian immigration and there loads of people worried because they've only spent three month in the last three years on Canada.

No, We won't let the other person use it unless it's registered to them as we don't know him. DH and I did talk about deregistering it when he gets back if it's possible, so I don't have to tow the boat anywhere myself.

No it's not, Guinness. Boat is in DH's name, DH away, buyer doesn't want to wait a month for DH to come back and do it. It doesn't sound like it's going to happen. I can't tow the boat to the CG to get the transponder sorted and the year to get my deposit back but is a worry, we'll be gone in less than a year. Alison T, you didn't tell me what i wanted to hear but thank you for taking the time to write all that, it's made things a lot clearer for me. We registered with the NTA.
