You really do need to lay down the law though. If you don't want her interfering with your life you MUST tell her. If you don't, it will fester and become a huge problem. If she changes your children's clothes tell her you were happy with what they were wearing and she is not to change them without talking to you first. Tell her not to plant new plants. Next time she comments on your clothes tell her you are happy with your choice and don't need other's opinions. don't let her overstep the mark.

Completely normal. A maid is there to make your life easier, not take over completely. My last maid was with us for over 4 years and she never once cooked a meal for me. She cooked for DH while I was away but never for me - that wasn't what I wanted her for. She'd get the kids ready for bed and put them to bed on the odd occasion we went out but never as part of her routine. She is your employee, she is there to do what you want her to do. If there are things you would rather do yourself then do them, it's your decision, although I would say never give up the chance to have someone clean your floors and do your ironing ;) Sounds like you may have found yourself a good maid though...

Is this pre-paid? DD has BB Social on pre-paid which was due for renewal a few days ago. I transferred AED 50 to her account online and the transaction shows however she's had no notification that the credit was received or her subscription renewed. when I called Etisalat they could only confirm that I'd transferred the credit to her account.

It's a food. They wouldn't sell it if it was likely to do harm :) I always swallow my gum.

It can drive you to tears. I had a problem with my fridge leaking water inside. Apart from this it was in perfect condition. I got a call from Better Life one Friday afternoon saying their 'technicians' were on their way. I was out so didn't have time to empty my fridge so they did it - by lifting the shelves out still fully laden. Of course, one of them drops a jar and dents the floor of my fridge. I wasn't even surprised :(

I really don't think NiP meant any offence to anyone and to be honest, if I was trying to employ someone to lug a vacuum up and down my stairs I'd be on the lookout for some able-bodied too. I would imagine Civil Defence would have the same criteria for their firemen as would most construction companies hiring labourers. I think you're reading too much into it, OP.

Although I loved both the book and the film, I thought A Thousand Splendid Suns was even better. I can't wait for the movie adaptation of that book to come out.

Depends on the situation. Lying to my boss's wife about his whereabouts when he's showing his secretary his 'toys' is wrong to me but I wouldn't risk my job over it. On the other hand I wouldn't keep quiet if I knew my company's actions were dangerous or likely to ruin the lives of people.

you need to be careful taking Marina type furniture overseas, especially if you're moving to a very dry climate. People have found that their wooden furniture has plit and cracked in the drier airs. I think there were some threads on here in the past about it.

As far as I'm aware the "housing fee" can't be backdated so personally I would wait for them to tell me to pay.

They could be right. There is a lot of information on the side wall of a tyre, and some of that gives the date of manufacture of the tyre. This is checked during the registration process and your car will fail if your tyres are over 4 (4?) years old.

Have you checked to see how much credit she has on her phone? That way you can instantly tell if it's been deducted. Dial *121# then press send. Sometimes the subscriptions take a couple of days to deduct, I've had this in the past and no notification. If it's all still working, assume it's all ok. She has AED 1.95 credit, which she says was what she had before I transferred any money. Her friends have said she's now in a 15 day grace period so I'm not sure if her account is still going as normal or she's on 'borrowed time'. Do you happen to know if there is a grace period with pre-paid?

Have you checked the Maids forum? I'm thought there are agencies who provide live-in, although I'm not sure about just for one month.

Using a maid sponsored by another individual is illegal. Look in the MAIDS form, there's plenty of info there regarding agencies you could use.

Hi SD, I have a never used anti-bark collar somewhere in my tip of a store cupboard - let me know if you want it (I'm in Dubai though) Thanks, but I got hold of one in Pet Land a few weeks ago. Considering how expensive the spray collars are, you may be able to sell it on dubizzle etc.

If you're saying you want to use a maid sponsored by somebody else or on her "own visa" then that's illegal. Or by "office" do you mean agency (as in maid agency?) edited by Sanddy_Dogg on 25/02/2012

Ok I know it's annoying, but a map??? lol. LOL! Just got back from C4 (MOE) but didn't see him. Kids happy with their toys. Cooking is next He's got a point..... :)

Just back from rowing *hurts* good for you Sandy! It hurts me just watching rowing! It actually motivated me on the treadmill today when I saw some rowers go by...I had my best run ever for distance and time. :) pretty proud It was our first training session of the season, been out of the boat for 2.5 months. It reminded I need to start exercising again. I'm not looking forward to tomorrow, I'm gonna be SORE!

Sorry Ange74, didn't see your post. I did go to the shop in al Quoz (Pet Land?). For anyone else's info they have quite a few different types of collar in stock. They are cheaper overseas but one would have to rely on regular mail I think (not sure I'd want to with the costs of them) as Shop & Ship won't carry them sue to the liquid in the spray. Thanks for the info. I will look into a more permanent method such as training :)

I always check my prescription first. If there's anything on there that I already have at home then I tell the pharmacist not to give me those items. They're fine with that.

While you're sure this lady has your toys you can't prove it so if you take them from her and you're wrong then you're the thief with a capital T. Not worth the risk. Also, I doubt you can get her banned on suspicion of theft. It's a lousy thing to have happened and I can't imagine why sand toys are important to steal. I think you can only follow your own advice; buy some new ones and mark them with indelible ink.

You can email me on lazylakite @ yahoo . co . uk if you like. No, I won't be able to join you as I'm already committed to something that evening. I hope it goes well though.
