I created an account with a UK billing address and used my 'webshopper' card from my bank which is specifically for webshopping and has a very low credit limit. It was accepted and I managed to buy the books. I did get am email later saying we can see that you have made a purchase will outside of the UAE but i never responded to that email. I have been using the account since then and have had no problems.

I see what you mean, my DH said a few years ago quote 'it feels like I am walking on eggshells'. I know if can get very unsettling for you, here if you ask him, he would say exactly this - that he doesnt do anything to provoke me and that he does his best for me but when i am angry I loose sight of this. The problem could be (which I have realised for myself) is that I have made him the center of my universe without showing this to him (I am not a very affectionate person physically - I have issues 'showing love') and am constantly looking for his approval without him even knowing this and then when there is a series of comments from him that make me feel I am not doing enough, I fall into this pit that i am not good enough. Can he make you leave the house, anger makes you so the stupidest of things is all I can say. I will pray for you and reach out to me if you need someone to talk to. What has helped me is getting back to my old school girlfriends who I can vent with and come back

Very sorry to hear abt your ordeal, however, I would like to present you the case from the other side (at the risk of giving every detail of my life away). I can relate to your husband's outbursts as I am the one who has such outbursts in our relationship. But I also realise (and this is not malicious), that I tend to have these outbursts only in front of my DH. Never in front of the children. The most important thing here, is to find out the reason - for me, the reason is usually something small in the beginning, which plays on my mind and depending on how i am feeling and what time of the month it is, it gets blown out of proportion and leads to an outburst. I have taken medication and been for therapy but nothing has helped except my will power. But you have to try very hard not to fuel the fire becoz thats what is happening when you give him a reaction and his angry being is demanding a reaction from you...it could be that he has been through physical abuse as a child and so much that sometimes in his mind he feels he deserves and is not getting it (wacky I know) but this is how an angry mind works. Reason - all I can say is these are unresolved past issues which I can not even understand and a very very low self esteem. Also, I say alot of harsh things when I am angry - do I mean them, some I do, yes, but some I dont. You need to talk to him when he is relaxed to see what is it that is causing this. Sometimes, it can be nipped in the bud with just a hug becoz I am feeling so horrible abt myself I just need someone to say you are not horrible and need a pat on the back for all that I do (I earn as good as any male, I manage a house, 2 kids, full time job, parents at home, in laws coming every 2 months, loosing weight, etc). Sometimes, I just need someone to say well done instead of mockery which my DH thinks is his sense of humour which is always direct towards me. At my last outburst, my DH asked me to leave and I asked him to leave. We were in the car in a parking lot and we both got out and went different ways. But I realised I can not leave him or my children. I came back. I apologised and all I can recall was I was really really tired and hungry and the issue spiralled out of control. ladies, please dont judge me but it is a marriage out of love and not just a contract. You need to speak to him (not abt passports) but about how you can help him help himself and then take steps. Hugs and Lots of love. I am sorry that you are at receiving end of something that is so unpleasant. edited by SanRan on 11/02/2013

I am not sure about the size of the apartment or villa and that it matters, but I tried to do this a few years ago. My husband and I both have independant visas from work and I didnt want to let go of my old nanny until I had tried and tested the new one. So I tried to take out the new nanny's visa on my sponsorhsip. First they refused right away, so I asked to speak to the head at Jebel Ali Immigration dept. He explained, that since my husband is the prime sponsor - with the children being on his visa, and the lease being in his name, only he could sponsor the second maid even though I met all the requirements of salary - it has to be a male (husband) unless you dont have one (deceased or divorced). Having said that, I told him that I was being honest and gave them all the details upfront as to why I wanted to sponsor the new nanny, but if I had said she is a friend coming to visit and would have taken a visit visa for her, there is nothing that couldve stopped me, right - he looked at me and smiled and said you are right. (btw this was before the rule that you have to be out of UAE for 30 days after the first visit visa, before you can get another visa). So, depends how and what they ask you but its worth a try.

I got a dermalogica facial at Dubai Mall and to tell you honestly, i wasnt impressed at all for the price I paid - it was quite expensive for a mediocre facial. She didnt do all extractions properly and I still had marks...Having said that, I was one of the first customers of Lydia and recommended her on this wesbite too but since then, its been a year and it has been impossible for me to get an appt with her. She is either not working at the times that I want or is completely booked. They ask for a 2 months wait to get an appt. Am quite upset abt that, although happy that she is doing well but she should think of a succession plan or train someone else to manage her customers and timings better. I go to a lady at Patsy Collins in Mirdif and she is the best I have known. It is a bit of a drive and she uses Guinot products, but I had bad acne and she is the only one who has managed to clear it all out...everybody that I have suggested her to, dont go else anywhere. Best of luck in finding someone reasonable and good!

Hey Kates01, I had PRK done which is an older form of Lasik - where they cut the cornea open and had a lense in my eye as my cornea was too thin too. The pain was just unbelieveable but so worth it. The recovery is slow but you get much better vision. My doctor was shocked how sharp my vision came back so just hang in there. It will be blurry for sometime, especially in the night and may be u shouldnt drive at all. I agree that you may be suffering from dry eyes. My doctor prescribed Genteal drops which I used for a very long time and it helped. I used them all the time and still use them sometimes. Re the Circus, you may just have to go with blurry eyes. Please make sure you dont use makeup either and you need to avoid water as slows the healing. Take care and I hope you recover soon. PS. I didnt have mine at Moorfields but alot of ppl I know have been there and it is supposed to be the best.

Reading all these posts, I am wondering whether there is something wrong with my PT too. I train at Fitness First (FF) with her 3 times a week and am doing cardio on the other days so 7 days a week. Have really cut down and am checking my food habits but not once has the trainer asked me abt my food. I was actually upset the other day becoz at FF they give you a handbook which requiresyou to log in everything and I was handed that over by the person at reception and she has never asked me for it. I have lost 2kgs in 2.5 weeks and my fitness level has improved no doubt but I am doing all the food research myself. She hasnt given a single piece of advice for food. Infact, I told her that I was maintaining a food diary and would she like to see it and she said, oh yeah bring it and has never asked for it again. Am really wound up now - will give her a piece of my mind tomorrow.

I usually had joint pain as well and then I injured my knee last year and have never recovered from it. However, my ortho suggested that I crush a few seeds of black caraway (kalonji seeds in indian language) and have it first thing in the morning which helps with healing. I have also noticed that taking calcium supplements (I actually take Cal + Magnesim+ Zinc)have definitely helped with general body aches and joint pain. Saw this on Dr Oz show :)

Sometimes I am not sure if it is scam or not. A few weeks ago I was approached by a man in the Lulu parking lot selling pens and when I said Ididnt want any he started his story. He had his 11-12 yr old daughter with him. He said he had recently lost his job and wasnt paid needed money for food for the family for that month. I didnt have much cash so I handed him the little that I did have. I then approached him to ask if he had a CV to see if I could help further and he said he has found a new job which will start in a month's time. I saw him again with his daughter and a friend this weekend in batuta but he wasnt asking for money anymore. I didnt show that I recognised him but if he wasnt asking for money at peak mall timings, I would like to believe it wasnt a scam and that he is good now (maybe the new job did indeed start). Its so hard to tell the diff between a scam and a reality.

Thanks a tonne beebers....It makes alot of sense. I have realised that i need to be careful abt the GI of fruits. Since I lost 12kgs 4 years ago to reach my ideal weight, I have really put on 4 kgs which have crept up and I believe I am not an 'unhealthy eater' but Ihave realised that I have too much fruit which means too much sugar and if I correct that I can loose these few kgs! Noted. I hope I make progress to report back to you ;) Im sure you will be proud. Thanks once again.

Absolutely right Whites! I agree a 100%. But sadly this is the reality of this region/city. You get paid for your colour.... I am not white and neither do I have a western passport - but I do have a qualification which women dont usually have in Finance. I do get paid well but I know for a fact that if there was a 'western' person doing this job, they would be paid higher and I work for an MNC! edited by SanRan on 09/01/2013

beebers, since you are so considerate and answering questions, may I have one pls? This morning I went and bought a protein shake as well Spirultena (sp?). I dont exactly remember the ingredients (but they were simple) or the calories (will go home and check), however do we need this only after weight training or intense cardio? I went for weight training a couple of days ago and the trainer stopped becoz I was pale and feeling faint (not that it was a very tough workout as I know I have done real tough workout before). So I wasnt sure what shd I have before and after. Nevertheless, I had a banana and then went for cardio this morning - 45mins on the cross trainer at my ideal heart rate (which seems tougher as its easy to go faster and increase the heart rate beyond the fat burning zone). So I had a glass of this protein shake and a small cup of all bran with skimmed milk (I needed my brain to know that I had my regular bkft as well). So, the question is it ok to have a banane before (to stop the faint feeling) and a protein shake after workout/cardio even if this is not 'intense'? Thanks in advance PS. Lou86 I went with my friend to eat at the foodcourt but I had brought my lunch and had before I left. He kept offering a bite of the lovely melted butter bun and I had to tried very very hard to say no and stick to it....Thank god I didnt!!! edited by SanRan on 09/01/2013

Hey Ladies, I am stuck with the same problem except anything I am doing does not seem to be working. I am not putting on weight, but I have not been able to shed any kgs. I have started with a PT yesterday and being careful abt what I eat as well. I tried Lean95, but could not keep up with the yucky taste. What is Oxyelite, where to get it from and how do I take it? Is it as bad tasting as Lean95?

Thanks Hilsbils. I have seen lulu-belle at Sandton yesterday and fell in love with it (from the window) but it was closed. I was asking someone about it this morning. Is it reasonable priced? I saw a few items I would love to buy from there. I want to know if I can buy from here and then not regret it that I found something elsewhere cheaper...let me know, as I will be heading there again tonight....

Hey everyone! I did my lasik with atlanta vision last year in August 2011 and have not regretted it even once. It has changed my life. Having said that, I do believe that this is their tactic to make more money as whoever I hear has taken the cobone deal (I bought a groupon deal last year) they try to sell a newer technology. For me, I had to pay aED 3000 additional, becoz they said I needed PRK - which is the older technology and painful but excellent results - No doubt! One of my cousins bought the voucher as well, he was 'sold' a newer technology as well. However, even after the sell on, it is much cheaper than other places and the doctors are really really really good. Dr Ashraf comes once a month (he is the one who did my surgery) but Dr Huda is good as well as she has doen all my followup visits.... believe me, it has changed my life and I hope that it brings a good change in ur lives too!

You can try this shop called - Brands Just Pret - They are going to open a shop soon in Ibn Battuta mall, however they have a shop in Pakistan already and they stock different designers and some big sizes too. They have an online store and I think delivery to Dubai should be easier. http://www.brandsjustpret.com/store/ There is another shop called collage in Barsha (next to Regal near Lulu Hypermarket), which has pakistani outfits, however they tend to a bit pricey but worth a visit.

I was one of the people who went to Essa for a facial with Lydia after reading recommendations on EW and I came back absolutely mesmerised. I have tried alot of salons for facials, and Lydia was really really good (without exagerration and I have no connection to her or the salon). I have never been able to wear sunblock without my skin breaking out, and she gave me a sample to try (did not sell the whole bottle at the first go, which is the norm in Dubai - no trial packets!) and I am so pleased with it. I went ahead and later bought what she recommended (not from the salon though) and my skin is amazing. I shall keep going back....and lydia as a person - what can I say - I was so touched with her caring, that I cried - Im not joking! So, Thank you EWomen, for introducing another lovely person and professional to my life! edited by SanRan on 28/06/2012

Missfortune, what I found funny was that there was a picture of Muslims praying in a mosque and then this statement implying that many 'muslims' drink coke becoz religion forbids them to have alcohol - which is a whole lot of **** in my opinion! People drink coke becoz they want to, not becoz their religion forbids them from alcohol -its not a subsitute! Thats what I thought was funny and this is dailymail printing stuff like that - forget the UAE Local newspapers!

This is too funny how stupid do they think people are - ''Many people regularly drink Cola because their religion forbids them from drinking alcohol'' Sounds like a publicity stunt - and may actually be good for us if we stop having coke and pepsi...its injurious to health even without the alcohol!

Could it be that its not the clothes in the store that you dont like but the fashion trend nowadays....I remember I went through the same thing a couple of years ago and I realised it wasnt the stores it was actually the fashion at that time that I didnt like. Skinny jeans were really in and although I am not very big (Im a size 10, but I have a small waist so a very distorted waist to hip ratio), I looked hideous and just could not wear them. Nowadays - high waisted jeans, shorter Tshirt looking shirts are in fashion and I do find that unless you are really comfortable with this style and have small hips, you may tend to look bigger than you are or would like to look. You may have to experiment a little to find out - (I have seen some big women look very elegant and some very slim women look trashy) I dont have any new shops to suggest (than the ones mentioned below), however you really need to keep looking and go into shops where u have not been before, to find something.

It was amazing...Just be careful though that tonight the show starts and hour earlier than yesterday...so lounge opens at 6:00, gates open at 7:00 and show starts at 8:00 (thats what one of my friends said but check on your ticket) .Also, once you get in the dont let you go out (we wanted to go out for a cigi and were not allowed). They do check for cameras and there is an area for camera drop off, so would be better if you dont take one. Tim Horton's was giving away free cookies and donuts which was an added bonus.... Prepare to laugh your lungs out !
