Thanks Sarahlou, Somehow I think it's easier recover here than waste a whole holiday on our boat looking like DH hit me :-). A friend had hers done in Brussels ( under the eyelid) and to be honest she didn't look that bad post surgery. I was surprised as I thought she would look like she did 2 rounds with Mike Tyson Just slight bruising which she covered. At least you can wear sunglasses here as she had hers done in the winter and wore sunglasses on the flight ( looking like a celeb) ha

Thank you for saying exactly what I was thinking. And the animals aren't always vaccinated against diseases. As kids we all used to eat dirt and I was constantly rolling around in the grass at the park, over the fields etc. I always remember seeking young boys peeing in the grids at the side of the road being held by Mum ( Usually being whisked out of a car at high speed before they wet themselves)

Dr Jafar Khan is a specialist in this. You will pay 11000AED here. Brussels is also the place to go for this and I know of 2 people who had both upper and lower done. Results were amazing

LHR is a nightmare to change plans in - takes forever and i have missed connecting flights before due to circuling for an hour. Would much rather pay the extra and fly direct (Birmingham / manchester in my case) Agree, BHX and MAN are so quick to get through and the staff at Birmingham immigration are hilarious.

I dont know about visa on arrival but my guess would be no. Aussies need an ESTA visa waiver before arrival in US and these things are usually reciprical. I think even UK passports need a visa. The consulate is in the bur juman tower if this is close to you may be easier to visit than phone. Hopefully someone can give u a more definite answer soon. You are correct. You need to apply online and are not granted one on arrival

The Springs 2 bedroom villas are tiny, I am quite sure far smaller than your apartment in JBR. The 2 bed villas in JVT and JVC are far more accommodating and newer, if not brand new. The problem is the infrastructure and that is where The Greens wins, there are ground floor apartments with terraces (small gardens) then you'd have the best of both worlds. I second the Greens there are lots of areas for kids to ride their bikes My building is full of children

Hi neighbours! I live in the building next to yours in JBR. We have no babies yet, but I am pregnant with my first and I too work in Abu Dhabi. I know that it will be a struggle when the baby comes, I was yesterday in the Jebel Ali nursery asking for information, but unfrotunately it will not be a feasable option, as we both work full time and our day is longer than the nursery's. A colleague of mine was living in the Greens and coming to work to Abu Dhabi and he was finding it ok. It is a little community with pools etc. and seems like a nice place where to live, I am just not too sure about the prices these days. Hi Leila A 1 bed is around 95k, 2 beds around 120-130k and 3 beds around 150-170k The prices above are for the older buildings whereas The Views and The Links etc are more

I know you may have a preference for a villa but have you considered the Greens? 2 beds with maids/study are around your budget Great pools, shops close by, loads of kids and a real community feeling I lived in the Marina several years ago and prefer The Greens hands down These apartments don't accept pets, do they? Mine is full of pooches. They even have a pet community group

If you are in a FZ then no ban If you aren't and the visa has been processed then it all depends upon salary and level of education. If you have a Masters you have to earn AED12000 or more, Bachelors is AED10,000 and High School ( GCSE's) etc is around AED6000 or AED8000 Hopefully you aren't on a Limited contract as that is a whole different ballgame! edited by sarahlou123 on 25/02/2014

Thanks Sarahlou I couldn't find the exact words. I wonder where we stand with out letter and sample contract, as our 90 days starts tomorrow?? No clue. It is such a grey area with this and the only way to resolve is rent court. [b'>My LL backed down :-)[/b'> Sorry just spotted this. That's great so you get another year at the same rent then? What about the 12 months notice, has that happened? I will get 12 months notice from end of this contract :-( Excuse my addled senior brain, but does that give you two years then, so to 2016? No 2015 they can give you notice at any point however doing it for 1 year from end of contract. There is no law to say they have to give it within 90 days of a contract ending. I queried this with the RC

The best way to find out about potential flatmates, is to ask around at work. It used to be that people from companies such as ITP and Motivate used to share flats, but I am going back a few years. If you work around the Marina, I would maybe suggest asking around there first. HTH, and good luck and it is so hard to be able to afford to live on own, but Studio in the Greens are going for 8k+ a month, all inclusive. Even Disco Gardens and JLT are around the 75k mark for a studio!!! crazy prices

Hi all, I was looking for some advice on the best way to find a room in the marina with nice flatmates. I was hoping to move by 3 March, and have been looking for a couple of weeks now with no success. I would like a room in a shared apartment in the Marina for around 4500 AED (I’m willing to pay 6 months in 1 cheque which I have found means I can negotiate the prices a bit as they are mostly listed as monthly payments) and my problem is that I don’t really know much about the people I’m moving in with as it’s always landlords showing me around the apartments. I was just wondering if there were any other resources besides dubizzle that offer a bit more of a personal service so I can at least meet one person who lives in the flat and understand the dynamic/make sure I’m comfortable moving in with the people living there. Thanks for all of your help, I’m not sure if there is a solution but thought it was worth asking! Not the easiest to find and be careful as Tecom was raided by the government a few weeks back to discourage sharing. I don't know if this applied to Bachelors only and a lot of government related services can only be accessed by showing a tenancy contract and if you are sharing I do not know if this is doable. Good Luck :-)

I don't think Shop and Ship is allowed to ship makeup.. please someone correct me if i am wrong.. i hope i am wrong.. i've seen them in souq.com too Sarahlou is the expert on SnS ;) Although a colleague of mine has had shampoo sent via them from Boots in the UK without any problems They allow certain liquids but I believe only perfume. It is worth calling them to ask I think it depends what is written on the package and who it passes through at customs

I am moving to a new villa with no fly screen doors - anyone know where I can get some made? I used a firm to replaced a torn one. I got the name off here Today Star 04-3444361 Perhaps they can help/advise. They only charged me 100AED for the flyscreen itself and were quick.

Not less than 90 days The law clearly states this See below I am a landlord, I want to increase the rent on my property. Is this allowed? If you are new to Dubai, navigating what is and is not allowed in the rental sector can be confusing, but, there are regulations in place so that what is legally expected of both landlords and tenants should be clear to both parties. The most recent update to residential property rental law in Dubai was Decree number 43 of 2013 regarding increases in rents. Rental increase caps were relaxed, but, there are still limits. It used to be the case that landlords could not increase rent until a tenant had occupied the property for two years. This is no longer true - this regulation was dispensed with in Law 33 of 2008, but, despite the fact that there were widespread rent increases in 2013, it is still possible that your property is not legally eligible for one. According to article 14 of Law 33 of 2008, landlords have the right to increase rent if the contract is up for renewal, but to within a certain level of current average market rates and they must give 90 days notice. You can find out if rent on your property is eligible for an increase by using the Real Estate Regulatory Agency’s (RERA) rent index calculator by clicking this link and entering your property details - www.dubailand.gov.ae Click here to see the current legally allowed rent increases Click here to find out what you can do to protect yourself under Dubai property law

Thanks ladies, thanks Sarahlou. I just checked the UB40 website and Ali Campbell and the other two founding members are playing at the Aviation Club in April and not at the Emirates golf club. phew ! I would have been SO disappointed if I had gone, only to find out Ali Campbell was not the lead singer. edited by mum2girls on 24/02/2014 It would be like Madness without Suggs. We are going to the IV one I think a few people wont be aware of this either :-)

Just as I was about to book my tickets for UB40 at Emirates golf club, I heard there are now two UB40's. One UB40 consists of the band members minus the original lead singer (with a new lead singer). The other UB40 which consists of the original lead singer minus the band members I am not interested in seeing the band without the original lead singer, so can anyone throw any light on which group it is ? I know there is a 200 aed installation fee, but just wondering if you have to pay for the package also upfront for the month, or do you pay at the end of the month? I think it will be after a month so they can check what you used ( I.E phone calls, video on demand, etc)
