Sudden lane changers for no apparent reason They are blissfully driving down the main highways and then swerve into the next lane? Lane drifters, usually texting or on their phones. Drivers who cut across empty lanes just to sit at 80kmph in the 2nd to fast lane I watched a guy in a huge 4X4 last night practically force a guy in a small Nissan out of the fast lane. He was sitting so close to him bumper and trying to get around him,the poor guy must of been petrified The 2nd to fast lane was gridlocked and the poor guy was only overtaking I got the name of the company on the 4X4 and will report to Al Ameen

Dr Madhu always gets good reviews on here. I believe he is Karama I am using Dr Jafar and his team at the Jumeriah Beach Road dental centre He probably isn't the cheapest but not as expensive as others I trust him and he and his team are wonderful

The Philippine consulate has warned their citizens not to go to Kish island for visa runs due to deaths and prostitution that happens there. Its not illegal though but it is not encouraged at all. Still there are maids who do not listen. Just stick to procedure and send her home. edited by Asti on 04/12/2013 I will try and talk to her about it, from this point of view. I feel bad forcing her somewhere she doens't want to, but don't want to be in troubles because of her. She claims she will have a "visit" visa that she can get from karama. That I have refused to pay tough! I didn't think maids could come in on visit visas?

We spent an insane amount of money in Park n Rob at Green community last weekend, they have soooo much good xmas chocolate, including Roses. As for xmas bakes, I generally do sugar cookies, sometimes mince pies, always sausage rolls and this cake: http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2008/12/gramercy-taverns-gingerbread/ It is heavenly. Make sure you grease your bundt tin very generously - use at least 5 tablespoons of butter to do so. Sausage rolls mmmmmmmmmm :-)

The easiest thing is to say you're broke. In fact, ask them for a loan. They soon stop calling. I told them I was in debt up to my eyeballs. The calls stopped although I have a new company calling now and when I asked where they got my number from the lady became very rude! Dh tried to call someone senior in one of these companies but reception wouldn't put him trhrough and wouldn't give his mobile. They bombard us with calls and emails yet value their own privacy! Lol

I've asked for an explanation, and the agent tells me that if we had serviced our AC regularly then this wouldn't have happened. I've now asked him to show me the report which explains that we are responsible for the breakdown of the compressor. Shouldn't the LL get it serviced? Its your responsibility? I have heard it all now. The agent also told you that? You should ask him/her for the service record to show when it was last serviced and how often it should be done?

I hope you're right sarahlou, my DH feels the same as you and I'm also heartened by ladybird's post. Watchman says that everyone in the compound has asked for a letter which might surprise the LL a bit. He's an AD man where I understand rents have already gone helter skelter after they abolished the cap. He can only kick you out if selling, demolishing, moving himself or family in ( has to prove this) Can you talk to him directly and appeal to his better side?. I have found when you talk to a LL face to face they tend to back down and play nice

We've been in our place for over a year and have to get our AC fixed several times. We recently had some maintenance guys in to have a look, and they said the compressor needs replacing. LL's agent is saying the LL will pay for the compressor but we have to pay for the installation. His explanation is that the compressor falls under "major maintenance" (which LL has to pay for) and installation is "minor" (which we have to pay for). I'm struggling to understand how one part of a job can be considered major and another part of the same job is minor. Is he just trying his luck? He is yes Everything I have ever had to have fixed ( A/C, water heater, oven, flys creen, dishwasher) has been covered by my LL. LL should pay for maintenance as its their property. I as a UK LL have to. However if I break something then I should pay for it as does my tenant. It makes me laugh when they say you have to pay. You cant do the major work without instillation??? cheek of him/her

Seriously losing the will to live with schools out in Dubai at the moment!! We applied about everywhere with the waiting lists as you do for our 2 kids 8 & 9 years old. We found that regent international and victory heights were taking on children. Victory Heights allowed us to to have the assessment on the computer over here in England at their school. Regent international required the assessment over in Dubai. We received an email from Victory heights offering a place to both kids, however, the kids did the assessment at regents last week and have just received an email saying only one kid has been accepted. We've been able to get the kids in at Victory Heights but can anyone tell us what victory heights school is like as I know it has only just opened. Use the search post function above and type in VH there will be lots on posts on the school

Yes, I was wondering that. I've now asked to have the rent increase put in writing and mentioned it's so I can take it to the rent committee for verification. But I do have a feeling that the rent committee will be upping everything soon anyway. I don't think they will They have formed a larger committee to deal with all the disputes as there will be many now

Thanks, I want to see Cirque Du Soleil there. Do you have any idea if the seating is tiered? I don't want to be in one of the back sections if they're all one level and I don't get to see anything. I guess it's not really a specially created performance space which these big shows should really have to do justice to their art.....shame there aren't many other venues in town.... I will find out as my friend went to the last performance there Ill be back with an answer to your question I saw them years ago near Ibn Battuta and it was amazing

Hi Ladies, I'm about to buy tickets for a show at DWTC, I want to get good/decent seats but have no idea what the venue is like, how big it is, whether the seats are on different levels/is there a balcony etc. If any of you have been to an event there I would love to hear your thoughts before I pay a fortune for what may end up being rubbish seats! Thanks I believe a few posters went to the Ballet there and said the acoustics and stage were terrible. People were chatting and phones were going off through the performance I don't think there is a balcony. Not that I remember from being at concerts there. It is just a huge event hall

I definitely think they should sort out some of the grey alcohol laws. At the moment, you can't get a license without a visa, yet many tourists drink and there's bars in every hotel. You can drink, but woe betide you if you have any alcohol in your system! Off thread but how will they cope with the World Cup in Qatar? Football fans love to drink!

They need to look into why everything is so much more expensive in Dubai especially when its always being touted as the Shopping Capital of the ME, with huge sales/discounts/bargains to be had. Like, I have heard it is the distributors that set their own costs, nothing to do with import

Hi ladies, In-laws coming to visit early January, want to get them a couple's massage spa gift voucher for Christmas. Checked out Movenpick already but they only give male masseuses for the men, which won't do for my FIL. Any other recommendations for a nice, classy spa who will do either separate or couple's massage, but will give female therapists for both? The closer to JBR the better. Also looked at Grovernor House but the prices were quite steep. Something 400 or under for a simple 60 minute massage would be preferred... TIA! Talise at Al Qasr perhaps

Have been trying to contact my LL and been wanting to talk to him to finalise the decision for my rent. I am still standing firm in this fight. If we do get to talk , I would still insist on staying in the apartment for one last year. Most especially, rents have gone up because of the Expo. Now, my problem is, he does not pick up the phone. He did not inform me of who to talk to IF he doesn't really want to talk to me anymore. I've been calling the Real Estate and they only have that one number. I've also SMSed my e-mail address to him. I even SMS him hours in advance advising him what time I would call. But no one's picking up. And no replies to my SMS. As advised, I'm making a Timeline of what has been happening just so when everything goes wrong, I can say I tried to communicate but it's his side that's being difficult. If i just let him ignore me and my contract expires. Does he have the right to evict me? Or do I have a fight to ask for the eviction notice and saying I wanted to ask for it but he doesn't communicate with me? I'm completely left hanging here... with so much questions... Any advice what to tell him so I can compel him to talk to me again and finalise this problem? edited by dixiedynamite on 02/12/2013 My friends DH to be is a GM of a well known real estate and developer here They build and manage properties. 2 of their tenants were in dispute with the LL and there wasn't any communication from said LL so they went to the RC with their contract and cheque books The RC issued a new contract for 12 months and said they will forward cheques to LL He cannot evict you without going through all the legal channels Did you change the locks on your property when you moved in? I did but kept the old ones to put back when I leave

i would really love to try shopping online.. but i am so scared that once i get them that it would not suit me.. and my size is always different from one shop to another.. but i'd like to give it a try.. i'll try new look since i simply love that shop.. and im pretty sure their clothes are way nicer than the ones here.. yeah? New Look here isn't really that much different to the UK except there is more to chose from online I like TDB don't buy any clothes here unless they are similar in price to online My favourite shops such as RI, Warehouse, Oasis constantly have sales on in the UK and the savings are huge compared to here. If you shop around enough you tend to figure out your size Today I have ordered a scarf that in the UK cost 360AED here it is 720AED! free shipping to the UK also.

When did you actually last use it? I think some UK pay as you go sims need to have at least one text/call every 12 months to keep them active (and obviously credit on them) It has credit on it and is still activated. I asked Orange this when I called them
