Sorry can't be any help in unlocking, but mine works fine in the cheap BB I bought at C4 I rang Orange in the UK and they said it should work in my BB but it doesn't? I'm flummoxed as I thought most phones bought from Dubai aren't locked to DU etc Yes ours is Orange too and it's fine. Very strange! Its a very old sim card from 2006? could that be the problem? I use it in an old Nokia phone but that has finally given up the ghost

This might seem like a silly question, but is it possible to use a debit card from a Dubai bank to pay for stuff online? Am trying to order some things from Etsy, but it's not working. Called my bank (citibank) and they told me you can't pay for things online with a debit card here - just wondering if its an issue with my bank or a general issue with paying online with a local debit card? You cant with RAK bank either you have to get one of their pre loaded cards to do that?

Thanks for the responses. Really want this all to be ok but dont want emotions to cloud my judgement. My DH is very reluctant to hand over cheques in advance and thinks once the agent has his commission chq he won't be as inclined to make our move a priority. Surely you pay after the service. We've been assured we will receive copies of title deeds, passport etc of owner, without which we would not proceed. sarahlou, if this all goes belly up I might need your friends name ... lol Curly No problem :-)

I would be more concerned about what you will do with it once you are in the UK. Last summer I found it very difficult dealing with cash in the UK. I changed money at the airport into GBP, probably £2000 in a mixture of notes £10, £20 and £50. Twice I tried to spend the £50 notes and it was a nightmare, they were checked, doubled checked and I was asked if I prefered to pay by card. Eventually they took them but it wasn't a great experience when you are stood in a shop and made to feel like everyone is questioning you. One of these experiences was in a large well known store, it wasn't like I was at the local corner shop and the second time it was in a hotel. I decided to pay the cash into my UK account to avoid having problems for the rest of the trip and they accepted it no questions asked but when I mentioned this to a friend who works at a bank she said they should have asked for proof of where it came from because I was paying in so many £20 and £50 notes. Many places in the UK do not like dealing with cash so be prepared to have some proof of where it has come from. I never ask for 50 pounds when changing money here as the UK hate them I have never had problems paying cash in any stores or hotels though

My experiences with Better Homes are also good, they do stick by their rules but they are above board. I rent my own apartment through them and have assisted numerous colleagues too, all have had positive outcomes. I also have a friend who works there ( He is very senior in the organization) and he is decent sort

Hi there, After what seems like an age we think we have found the Villa for us and it's through Better Homes. Their terms and conditions and the contract seems a little convoluted especially re the payment of cheques and deposits. Basically we are being told that we pay the agents commission a week before we get the contracts and we also pay over the cheques, the first one which must clear before we get the villa keys. This all does not rest easy with us as we would like to receive the keys on handover of the cheques. Has anyone any experience with Better Homes and have come across this before? Are we needlessly worrying or are we right to hold our ground? I really don't want to lose the villa though and start all over again. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Curly Do you have a copy of the title deeds? BH are a reputable company however I understand your uneasiness. I have handed over deposits in the past before getting the keys but never the actual rent cheques. I have never been caught out but who is to say it doesn't happen I think the deposit is to give the LL peace of mind that you want the property. Its not painful at all and below where the hair grows. It can't be moved around :( I really want to have a proper ultrasound done, as it is bigger than when I first felt is 6 months ago. Any recommended doctors? She just turned 12 - I guess my mum's diagnosis has made me question it so much. I am worried for her and a little bit about my lumps too... PS - I had an appointment booked, but can't bring myself to go to a male radiologist, I know I am being stupidly conservative and its not against my religion or anything but... edited by summerdream on 27/11/2013 Some people prefer a Woman there is nothing stupid about that. it is a very intimate exam and especially for a Woman young or old.

With a toddler, let them walk the aisles! That's the best way to entertain my DD. Back and forth, back and forth. She enjoys smiling at folks. It is so cute when they do that. I ended up with the cutest little Arabic boy on my lap all the way from KL. His Mum and Aunties told him to stop bothering me but he wouldn't get off my knee and screamed the place down when he had to go back to his seat for landing. He was then waving furiously at me when we got off the plane. I actually had a lump in my throat.

Please advise procedure and costs indication. I am considering getting a few shipments for my business now by air and sea as opposed to door to door courier and any guidance would help. There is also one personal shipment of about 250kilos that I want to get by sea. We shipped a motorbike door to door from UK to JAFZA then to the Marina it was around 1000GBP in cost What they didn't figure was how to get the bike off their truck at our house and we had to pay for a forklift truck to get the bike off the truck ( We were fuming) it was so easy at the UK end as they collected the bike and helped OH do all the paperwork. It was a nightmare at this end and took a while for clearance

I wonder if people in the other potential host cities are endlessly debating the effect winning Expo will have on the property market and the economy as a whole? Anyone got family/friends in any of the other cities? I believe in the other places property prices are relatively stable and not so easily manipulated by the real estate brokers like in Dubai for increasing their commission. I was listening to Dubai Eye this morning and the presenters were saying that LL are using EXPO as an excuse to increase rents and many are saying to tenants I will come back to you after the announcement that Dubai has it and will let you know if you can negotiate another year ( So they can try to increase the rents)

Yeah but if they give you ample notice, surely the LL can do whatever they want, it is their property after all? This whole LL/tenant / owner relationship here confuses me. I am happy for my LL to give me 12 months notice to leave as she is selling I have told her this but she still hasn't sent me a letter stating this I have been there 2 years at the same rent so will have to bite the bullet. The uncertainty is not knowing what is happening as she hasn't responded to any of my mails

I need to take a large sum of cash with me to the UK in December. I'll be travelling with three other family members. Has anyone taken 10k (pounds) per person into the UK before when travelling in a group? Or 10k alone? According to the internet, you can take in 10k euros without declaring it but just wanted to see if anyone had any personal experiences. I wouldn't want it to be confiscated!!! My friend who moved back to the UK took 10k in cash and wasn't stopped She had called customs in the UK and was told it was okay

Hey ladies, I am looking for somewhere to go to have my hair put up for a Ball. It is next Friday and ideally I need it to be in or near Mirdif so I can get it done as late in the day as possible. Thanks in advance :) I have my up do's and braids done at Jet Set The lady that does them is amazing and the cost is anything between 70-120AED depending on the style. She is the best lady I have ever used Only downside is that she is based at the Grosvenor House Hotel near the Marina. The salon opens at 9am I think and you can valet park I tend not to wash my hair the day before

But randomly added me, when I asked who he was he asked what was going on with my profile picture (its a pic of me and the future hubby), then asked me to delete him. isnt the announcement at 17.30 paris time which is 20.30 Dubai time - how will schools and work be able to communicate this that late in the evening???? Very simple. The school has already told them what will happen if Dubai wins the expo. It is similar to the procedure for announcing Ramadan... Word of mouth etc I remember when George Bush came here and the night before a public holiday was announced It was late in the evening when it was announced

He's saying that I will save money as he will charge me a lower price if i just get his insurance transferred? Is this even possible? Hi Another rent question. Our two year contract is about to expire. Landlord is renewing for another year but serving us 12 months notice so his friend can move in (not allowed). He is insisting on a 5 per cent increase on the rent which isn't in line with the rental calculator. I just want to check whether because it is the end of a two year contract if he is entitled to put it up or if he still has to be guided by the rent calculator? Meagle, you are a very fortunate woman and your parents were wonderful! Yes they are, but that doesn't mean that other children of divorced parents "never fair well." No, that's true. But the odds are very much against them. Why would you say that. Both my girls and some of their friends come from divorced parents and are doing just fine. Couldn't agree more. Some of my friends said they wished that their parents had divorced rather than stay together. I believe children can have 2 great homes if parents divorce and do it the right way. How many poor, screwed up kids are there whose parents are still together? My Mum died when I was young and although my Dad tried he couldn't cope with 4 of us alone. We all grew up okay with no issues whatsoever

The service fees have to be paid BEFORE they will allow the permit. No fees = no rental as no move in permit. Good thinking but the " move out " one is a bit weird - maybe that is for sellers? I think it is. I will ask our Strata man in the building tonight

As I understand it, the landlord can give you the eviction notice (12 months) at any time. If I was a landlord, I would give the eviction notice at every renewal because it removes the rental calculator from the equation during negotiations .... unfortunately, the landlords are all being predictable in this respect. You don't have to pay the 5K, but it may be a small price if you really do think you will be here for 2 years. If you get a renewable tenancy agreement now, it is good for 2 years. It stinks and these guys are not following the rules, but we all have to pick our battles. You cannot do this - issue an eviction notice at every renewal! Not unless you are prepared to wait 2 years between rentals each time! Also you can only ask to vacate for certain reasons. ( The main one is selling) and if you don't sell and get a new tenant in you can be taken to court, lose 2 years rent as the other poster said and have to pay money to the old tenant. Would you risk that every 2 years:?
