Hi Sarah Lou, You are absolutely right, the point is I am looking for a job and when he talked me about one, I just thought I had chance. This is something I absolutely never do but that time, I did. Of course when I left I just thought "How come can I be so naive and stupid" but unfortunately it happened. I trusted this man. And I would add that such a thing would not have happened in my country. It was unthinkable it could here in the UAE. My husband got information from his local colleagues, and they adviced me to do that, warn women here, as we can do something with the police if it happens/has happened to other women. Be careful. The UAE isn't that safe :-).

Not sure where you are living but if it is an Emaar development Emrill will come out and do the repair. I had the 2 fly screens on my balcony doors done and they charged me AED 150 and did it there and then. I am in an Emaar property and will see how the other guys are 1st apparently they are a little bit cheaper but thank you for the advice

Considering I am one of the mid class people I better book my flight ;-) shall we meet in Izmir Daza? You're on. We might even be able to position ourselves in the 'top' level there. Unless they get Expo of course then......onwards to Ekaterinburg perhaps? Wont it be a bit cold there? brrrr

Maybe the middle classes can share flats, like 3/4 families in a 3 bed apt. You say that is not allowed ? That is not my problem. <sic> Im too old to share haha

I have heard of expo before and am looking forward to the possibility of a Dubai winning this bid. Yes, Dubai is already a great city and well known, and this brings the opportunity to promote expo a swell as enhancing what a Dubai already has to offer. I hope that it does increase rents and property prices, many landlords and business owners have been waiting a long time to be able to make the kinds of money that Dubai is famous for. It will also squeeze a lot of the mid-class residents out, which has become a too large sector. Winning this bid will give a dubai the opportunity to redeem itself after the bad fall a few years ago. If a lot of the mid-class residents are squeezed out then who will rent the large number of 2-5 bed townhouses and villas around? The 'top' level aren't going to want to slum it in anything less than a mansion and the 'low' level can't afford to pay anywhere near the rents needed if a landlord has a mortgage to pay. Sarahlou, I've been to Izmir too, a couple of times. Maybe we met over a shisha pipe :) Considering I am one of the mid class people I better book my flight ;-) shall we meet in Izmir Daza?

Can we get an eviction notice at any time throughout our tenancy, or is there a law that states when the landlord must give it to us? Just wondering if anyone on here can answer this as the Rent Committee is now closed for the day and I really want to know! Our contract expired 8 days ago - we've been chasing the landlord's agent for our renewed contract but he's mainly been ignoring our calls, texts and emails. We occasionally receive a message to say he will call, but he never does. Until yesterday, when he told us if we paid an extra 5K our contract here would be safe. If we don't pay, he'll issue us a new contract but we'd also get an eviction notice so that we would have to leave after 12 months on the basis he is going to sell the property. We are refusing to pay the extra as, as per the Rental Increase Calculator, we are not due an increase this year. Ideally, we would like to be in this villa for the next 2 years, so it would be a pain in the neck to have to move after 12 months, but I don't want to give this landlord any more money as he's not entitled to it! You can go and pay your cheques at the rent committee and they will issue you a new contract for 1 year. The LL can give you 12 months to vacate but it has to be for one of the legal reasons as per the law ( selling, demolishing etc) go to the RC in person tomorrow.

I for one would like Dubai to win the expo. But I still don't get what they are planning to expose. Does anyone know? It's countries from around the world showcasing different areas such as health, nutrition, energy a commercial Global Village If you like I lived just outside Hanover in 2000 when they had the Expo on Theirs was not a financial success at all and they were left out of pocket I don't remember Hanover being really busy whilst it was on but then my memory for 13 years ago isn't that great. It wasn't something that interested me but I do feel it will be good for Dubai and the tourism industry <em>edited by sarahlou123 on 25/11/2013</em>

I don't get why so many people get so hung up on these holidays. Those that actually get to have them, should count themselves lucky - many people don't get them at all, otherwise the entire country would grind to a halt - someone has to work. It would be nice if all the shops etc were shut for the day just like old times in Europe :-)

Hey, Tigerente! There’s this amazing new club in Dubai Marina called Tribefit and it blew me away! Right off the bat, the ambiance will get you in the mood TO SWEAT! They have a wide range of classes from yoga to zumba to bootcamp. With 80 classes on the timetable running at over 90% capacity TribeFit has very quickly become the destination for group exercise in Dubai. And since we all know that the process is 70% diet and 30% sweat, they give you a weekly recipe which you can download on their website or facebook page for free! The best part is you will not stop going because it’s not all work, you get to play too! They have events every week which go from pool parties, movie nights, or yoga in the beach. And if you’re looking for that intense focused workout, they this new program called “Look better naked.” They hook you up with a trainer who will work with you and they GUARANTEE results! I’ll see you around the club! Best of luck! My friends go here and rave about it :-)

Hello I need someone who can come to the house and replace the fly screen I have searched the posts on here but cannot find anything Can anyone help please? TIA We used Jim'll Fix It for repairing a flyscreen ages ago - they came, took it away and brought it back when it was fixed a few days later. Also, and if you've time, last week I needed one done again and just took it to Satwa, one of the Glass & Aluminium shops, and they fixed it in an hour at minimal cost. Thank you May I ask how much it cost with Jim Will Fix it? I would love to take it to Satwa but it wont fit in my car :-(

Thanks guys.\ We looked in Marina Exoctics as love this shop. But non in there that I liked all were very uncomfortable and very pricey. if going to pay that money needs to be comfy. Looked in Pan Emirates and just had rubbish too, always a little hit and miss that place. Will try out The One though, just got dinning table and chairs there recently. Do love their stuff, didn't see anything in there the other month in MOE one though as have been keeping an eye out for a little while now. Will look at Freedom and HomesRus too. There is a lovely one we like in Crate&Barrel but is 20K - this is really over the budget a bit. Really looking at 7k - 10k max. ** Aylaali - ooooh this could be an option. Can you message me (not sure if there is a private message option on here, can't remember). If not will let you know my email address ** I bought mine from The One In the Outlet Mall I believe they have a sale on at present It is that comfy I have fallen asleep on it several times

I went to MOE and the girl said I am a 34 C. Went inside the fitting room and the lady said I am 32D. I went to La Senza after that and the lady there said I am a 34 D. Tried out some bras there and for balconette (?) ones, I am a 34D and a 32 D for the regular ones. I decided to check out the VS at Dubai Mall as well. Lady told me I am a 32 D and gave me a bunch of them to try on. None of them fit me correctly! -.- I did fall in love with this "balconette" strapless one but most of my boobs were out (even though the band felt just right) so didn't buy that one. Btw, I tried the one in size 32D. Honestly speaking, I doubt whether any of these mass produced bras can fit anyone perfectly. So any idea where can I find customized bras in UAE? I find M&S are the correct size La Senza are a lot smaller and the sales staff haven't a clue when it comes to measuring You can measure yourself quite accurately ( Google how too)

Has anyone working in the DIFC recently obtained a liquor license? And if so, which letters did you need? Our PRO does not seem to know. According to MMI website you need a salary certificate to get a license (which I believe I have to get from govt dept rather than my company) but it also says that if you work in a free zone then you have to have a NOC from the police - do I do that through DIFC or do I have to go to the police station? All very confusing! Thanks in advance! I didn't I just got the letter signed from my MD, my passport, tenancy agreement and salary cert from work

National days in other countries are also school holidays. Not in the UK it isn't - we're lucky if anyone even notices it !! lol I keep meaning to get out my Union Jack shoes on St George's day ( near enough) but i always forget when it is... :D Tut tut Izzy ;-) Isn't it in March?

I don't think some people can imagine what kind of buyers are out there. My friends father recently 'picked up' 20 new houses while the prices were fairly low. He has now put them back on the market and he can afford to sit and wait for a decent sale. His portfolio is amazing, and there are plenty more like him out there. seeing how 50% plus are cash buyers here I know

It happened to me several days ago in MUSHRIFF MALL around 1.00 pm. I was dressed in a proper attire. I was approached by a man, mid forties, very good english, well dressed, polite, and introduced himself as Gulf manager of his society, telling he is from Egypt. He proposed me a job that sounded like "customer service agent". I accepted to have a coffee (he was in a crowded café 10 meters from us) as we can more discuss. At the beginning he stayed very polite, very professional. Actually, what he said before I FLEE was about "escorting", so *** for money. It was so unlikely! I thought I did not understand! He asked me very rude questions I refused to answer. I recorded the most part of our conversation with my phone because I felt there was something wrong and I felt nervous. I wanted a proof. WIVES, SISTERS AND DAUGHTERS, BE VERY CAREFUL I am glad you are safe but why would you go for a coffee with a random man you didn't know? Alarm bells would ring immediately

If rents were cheaper, you had an option to stay longer than a year, you could pay monthly, LL paid for and maintained the properties, paid the agency fees and gave back deposits then I think that tenants would move out and not try and stay If I move next year and may well have to it is going to cost me a small fortune, not to mention most places now want 1 cheque instead of 4 etc .

What is even more crazy is that there are people who will pay that for them. It's really ridiculous. Without buyers, the prices would go down to a more reasonable level. I could buy a mansion on the Sydney harbour for that!! and you can be assured the workmanship and quality of matierials would be second-to-none!! Cash buyers who cannot invest in the West or Europe I suppose. Dubai to them is the equivalent of buying a huge property in London/New York etc If I had that kind of cash to spare I would be long gone to somewhere else

They get taken out of my annual allowance, so that means the days I've saved up all year to take when I want to will have to be taken when "said" says so What? so you don't get them as extra? Is that legal? x I get a set amount, and that includes annual leave and public holidays, which is normally fine, until they start giving you extra Miserable so and so's
