I have bought cheap ones in the past and after one flight it literally fell apart I invested in a Samsonite from the Outlet Mall and it is indestructible! even after many flights and 3 years of being thrown around

Does anyone else have a 12 year old who is addicted to Xbox ? After coming in from school (having done homework) its straight upstairs to play - and thats where he stays. i've imposed time limits - but its all he seems to want to do at the minute - and causes awful rows with his dad (when i'm not around) i guess this is a ''teenage thing' - anyone in similar position? Take it off him, that is what my Sister did with her Son when he wouldn't stay off the thing

Having a child in car without a proper seat and belt should be regarded as child abuse. Only front seat passengers must wear seat belts by law.... for such a family oriented country this area is so sadly lacking.... :( I agree. We were on the Palm at the weekend and a big 4X4 zoomed past us with 2 small heads poking out of the sunroof. Imagine if the driver suddenly braked. In instances like this the parents should be prosecuted. But people who allow this simply don't care. I can't count how many times I've spoken to people who do it and they just tell you to mind your own business. Even if something tragic happens, they'll never learn. Who do they blame though when it does happen? I could never forgive myself

The place where I work is trying to find out which private companies are giving their staff the day off - I know the public sector is off but apparently it was announced by the minister recently that the private sector would get Saturday 30 November instead, great when many of us get that day as part of the weekend anyway!!! If you don't mind putting company names in your response it would be really appreciated! Thanks. The only place that announced this was Emirates 24/7. No other official announcements made We are in the private sector and off on the 2.12.2013

Oh dear. The joke really did fail. The reason I wrote paediatricians was because of a famous incident where an actual paediatrician was targeted -- her house daubed with paint etc -- because the 'mob' -- incited by the tabloids -- thought there was a paedo living there. [i'> Self-styled vigilantes attacked the home of a hospital paediatrician after apparently confusing her professional title with the word "paedophile", it emerged yesterday. Dr Yvette Cloete, a specialist registrar in paediatric medicine at the Royal Gwent hospital in Newport, was forced to flee her house after vandals daubed it with graffiti in the middle of the night.[/i'> http://www.theguardian.com/uk/2000/aug/30/childprotection.society I remember that story

Also doesnt he have to give you 90 days written notice of any amendment to the lease? If I am correct, and Im not saying Im certain, then hasnt he missed the boat there as well if you lease is up in January and its now November? He does :-) Throw the rent committee law at him, keep a copy of all correspondence and if it gets to stalemate tell him you will take your cheques and contract to the rent committee who will issue you another year within line with the calculator and law The more people stand up to these people the less likely there are to get away with it! Do not sign anything except a new contract with the correct price

Hi ladies, Is a landlord able to increase the rent in the first year - we moved into our apartment last Jan and the landlord has just sent the renewal of 20 per cent ? I was undert the impression he couldnt raise it the first year although he said rental prices have rocketed where we are thanks Forget the first year. This no longer applies He can only increase as per the rent calculator. This is law. If the rent in your area has increased up to 25% he can only increase by 5%, inform him of this, say you took legal advice from the rent committee and he can clarify with them also. You have rights so do not give in to him, they are all trying it on at present

This scam has been going on for years Etisilat would never ring from a mobile number or ask you to take you Sim out They would ring from a landline and ask you to come into their office What is surprising is that the scam is so blatant. DH bought two phones + SIMs for visiting execs from an Etisalat shop on a Saturday morning -- about two months ago -- and that very afternoon, both numbers were called and DH told that he had 'won' a heap of money. So as soon as the SIMs left the shop, someone was onto it and put the numbers into their dodgy 'system'. There is a new finance company constantly calling mine trying to get me to invest money with them. I told them I was in debt up to my eyeballs therefore could they help me ;-) I asked the lady where she got my number from and she got really stroppy and said I cannot disclose that, so I said you are ringing me on my personal number but you cannot tell me how you obtained the number. She hung up ha

I got a speeding ticket with 24 hrs of having my new car.... and seem to get at least one a month..... and that's with putting cruise control on whenever i am on SZR I had a year where I racked up so many fines and I promised myself I would never pay out that amount of money again. I keep to the speed limit :-)

I wonder who came up with all this non-sense ? I think this is just a way to put a bit of "life" in the forum : nothing better than a heated debate over nationalities and [u'>their[/u'> supposedly bad behaviors/habits. :) oh - its from DM - thought it was vaguely amusing..... Did DM say which nationalities display these annoying habits? as I read it as this is what we British find annoying..

Hello ladies, I'm about to sign a new tenancy contract for an apt,the thing is the addendum of tenancy contract states that: "A 90-day prior notice for vacating/renewal/change in terms, from the tenant and landlord,is required on both sides before the expiry of the tenancy contract. From what I know the landlord should give the tenant a one-year notice prior to vacating the apt from his side.. Is there anything I should do with that?knowing that I've already tried to negotiate changing this with the broker.. Is this a normal thing present in the current tenancy contract recently? Plz help! it is normal, mine says the same. 90 days is for any changes, you ask to stay or renew etc Both parties have to agree to changes though

90 days standard for changing terms. 12 months notice must be given to terminate. Make sure they they did not sneak the term "NON RENEWABLE" some where in the contract. Non renewable is not accepted at the rent committee regardless of what the LL states or write on the contract

I get quite a few calls from African numbers in the middle of the night. Read somewhere that they just let the phone ring once and wait for you to call back and then the attempt to convince you to send money somewhere starts ... Now I always put the phone on silent when I go to sleep So do and I and all the family back home have my landline number incase of emergencies

Ah well, thats what anyone would have expected from the developer, to make sure that all monies were paid uptodate, NOC given and transferred to new owner. My friend has no records going back to 2 years ago so cant track down records. The thing is, she would never have been given an NOC from the developer if she owed anything on the property. Can you imagine a developer letting you off with service charge payments or any payments for that matter. Its a crazy system in the UAE. I know! Who is the developer of the building that she is selling. Do they not have a record of the e fees being paid? I know Emaar do

Oh, does anyone buy lingerie online? Since Black Friday is coming up, I was wondering whether we can get a good deal on it. Oh, do la senza and victoria's secrets ship to shop&ship/my box? I buy, but I stick to exact styles, brands I recently tried in real life. Macys, kohls, Nordstrom will all have sales. Victoria's Secret in the States goes on sale after Christmas and last week of June. Moms milk boutique sells really nice nursing bras. I spend a lot on bras but I view it like sunscreen as a preventative anti-aging measure. Hello! Thanks for your reply Apricot! I will go and get myself some bras from VS and if I like them, I would order more online during the sale. Anyway, how long does it take to come here and how much do you pay for shipping? I think anything under a kilo is around AED40 over is AED70 per kilo Call Aramex they are really helpful, from UK 5 days. I tend to order at the weekend so they arrive before the next weekend. Go and try them on here and buy online. The sale at VS is always good and I have got bras reduced to AED50 as am a larger cup with small back so there are always plenty left. I find M&S are the closest to your actual size. La Senza are a bit smaller 50 Dhs bra? wow! Going to VS tomorrow! :D Oh, thanks for the guide as well! :D edited by Flames92 on 18/11/2013 In the sale they are that price not at full price. Compare the cost in Dubai to online and hopefully you may find some savings. Most items here are 30% more than the UK

I really fancy a change of scenery and am thinking that when our lease expires, we might consider moving to Dubai Marina. However, we want our dog to be happy also. Is there anywhere to walk dogs in the Marina area? Can you take them on any beaches? Would really welcome some views from people who live there and have a dog. Thanks. I don't think dogs are allowed on any beaches in the UAE and certainly not at the Marina

My colleague sold an Emaar property and below is her answer I hope this makes sense When I transferred the property from Dad’s name to mine, there was nothing outstanding but the developer did check that and give me a document showing that all service charges had been paid for the year. I only paid the transfer charges. Even now the agent has asked me for proof of service fees paid for the year, which I contacted developer for and they have sent me a copy.

Fairy dust, I don't think they do file down the tops of your nails like they do for acrylic for example. I had my Biosculpture nails redone yesterday and checked with the therapist. She said no, they just buff the tops. When I had acrylic nails they used to file them down with an electric file and they were indeed very thin if you let them rest. One of the reasons I've changed to Biosculpture (which is the same as SHellac and Gelish, just a different brand) is precisely because it does less damage to your nails. They don't file them down if using Shellac or Gellish I used to have gel but they ruined my nails. I have been using gellish for 2 years and may nails are in much better condition. Even when the gellish comes off they are still strong

Can anyone tell me how shop and ship works and whether you can actually save any money ordering from abroad. Thanks You set up an account Order from most websites ( I primarily use UK clothing websites) Have the parcels sent to the UK Aramex address that S&S give me and then they are delivered to my office here. I have saved a fortune on clothes and rarely buy things here anymore The UK has amazing sales all through the year and the clothes I buy online cost 30% or more in the Dubai shops what happens when you need to return something? Do you send it back via shop and ship? I never return as have usually tried said item on here or know my size I haven't had any faulty items yet

@Sanzeveria @Sam7 Thank you, girls. I've been inspired by your posts. I did some research. Made the Rent Calculator work (used only till December 31, 2013 in contract end). And read the law about the 12 month notice before eviction. And let the landlord know I know about these things. Now, I'm waiting for his reply/call according this issue. I'm a little worried though maybe he will stop communicating giving me no chance to renew the contract when it ends on January 2014. If that happens, I have no idea what to do. Anyway, I'll just wait. By December, I should settle this. If I am correct and he doesn't come forward with a new contract, that's when you can turn up at the Rent Committee with your previous contract, any correcpondence (or not as the case my be) and your cheques for the following year. They will take them and then you know you've paid. I'm sure that this has happened before, or something very similar. 2 people I know did this. They paid there and the RC forwarded the cheques to the LL
