It was not meant to be funny. My point is it is illegal and she must report it to the police. Threatening him or her husband hitting him is of no use. [b'>It is considered a very serious offense here[/b'>. I think this is one of the biggest illusions in Dubai. Nope, 2 men have been arrested for propositioning me (in a lady of the night way) and just last week a European guy tried to get me to open my window to ask me something outside a shopping mall and an undercover cop came over and asked him who he was to speak to a non related woman. The guy was surprised and said that he did not know that he couldn't talk to female strangers. edited by BubblingCreek on 05/11/2013 In the 7 Days today a man has been arrested for touching a ladies arm and saying hi It does state that harassing a woman carries a fine of AED10,000 and a year in jail It is on page 4 edited by sarahlou123 on 05/11/2013

Can you find affordable, good quality outdoor furniture at reasonable prices in Dubai? Eg. Rattan sofa sets? We are moving soon and working out what to bring with us. Thanks. I have a 5 seater one which I bought in the sale at ACE hardware. I think I paid AED1500 for it but that was almost 3 years ago I have seen others around the AED2000 upwards mark The cushion covers on mine were not great and I had to get them replaced within a year

HI I need some help we are moving to Abu Dhabi & I'm looking for a good Estate Agent to show us some properties. I have been recommended Al Khalidiya, Al Karamah, Al Musalla, Al Mushrif, Al Rowdah & Al Reem Island for places to live what are these like today, so they have restaurants, coffee shops, supermarkets & small shops within easy access. I won't have a car when I first arrive & expecting our first baby in March 2014 so I will need to get around with a stroller. Does anyone has any other recommendations on good places to live. We'd like somewhere that there's some parks to be able to go for walks & not too noisy with traffic while in the apartment at night. Regarding properties do any include kitchen appliances such as dishwasher, washing machines, fridges, cookers, microwaves or is this standard that these are not included. Can you buy this second hand or it is best to buy new? I know this is alot of questions but we want to make the best decisions when we arrive to make life a little easier. Many Thanks If apartments do have white goods you may get a cooker, dishwasher and washing machine included I have had apartments with all the above and then only an cooker in others. It depends upon the development. What I didn't have I bought new as I was planning to stay here With regards to estate agents I can honestly say I have never come across anyone decent (8 Years in the UAE) The Other posters may be able to help with names Good Luck

I recently flew back to Dubai from the UK following surgery for Breast Cancer and was given exemplary service by Emirates Cabin Crew especially one in particular. This was a very emotional time for me and she made the journey very easy for me. I did not get the chance to thank her or say goodbye when exiting the plane and I would like to pass on my gratitude to her and also let Emirates know what fantastic staff they have, if Skykitty or indeed anyone else has an email contact address for customer service (that won't get "lost" in the system) I'd be grateful for details. TIA Do they have a Twitter page? Try Tweeting it :-)

Hi It was a locally purchased phone but it is a pay as you go sim not a contract one I think the phone is from the UK originally as when I put in the IMEI or one of the numbers when I had problems with Imessage it said it was from the UK. Perhaps some shops buy them from the UK and US so Facetime is available on them

With contract renewals, do they happen automatically if no one gave any notice of leave by the 90 day period? Or would the tenant need to officially notify the LL that they want to stay? My understanding was that it is automatic if neither party says otherwise. It is and if you don't/can't communicate with the LL they you can take your current contract and cheques to the RC who will check the calculator and issue you a new contract My BF DH to be is the GM at a large developer here and he had 2 tenants do just this

I thought she could sponsor her herself since she is employed. My prior housemaid has a sister that lives here too. Her sister is also a housemaid and sponsored my maid originally as a tourist. That is how I met her, on a tourist visa. We had to change her visa over once we hired her but it was not expensive. Does a maid earn enough to sponsor someone ?? DT, I think the maid went to a travel agency and done this to her sister. Coriander is saying she can sponsor daughter herself as she is employed - her sister is another case... I thought the cost to sponsor a child for a woman is far higher than for a man at AED4000 salary

I don't think giving 12 months notice can be described as kicking tenants out. I do. We're happily settled here and I have to uproot my entire family because my landlord is feeling greedy? If the real estate market was properly regulated, rental increases were justified (At present there are not in line with current salaries and the cost of living) you could pay monthly, didn't have to pay agencies fees, got your deposit back without any hassle whatsoever, had a LL that maintained their properties properly and were able to stay in a property for more than 12 months as you can in many other countries then I feel tenants would be more flexible to move and before anyone jumps on me I know 12 months notice is the law. I will have to move soon and it frightens me as the rents in my area have gone from 4 cheques to 1 and increased from 15-20,000 per year. My salary hasn't increased as a result of this and the cost of living is higher than what is was last year I feel sorry for families who were able to enjoy a semblance of a good life here and now can barely make ends meet due to rental and schooling costs .

Ok a different idea, if i buy a turkey crown and cook it myself is there anywhere that will deliver just the trimmings I think but may be wrong that hotels do the turkey with all the trimmings not just trimmings on their own. I found the trimmings weren't enough so made some of my own too ( Stuffing, **** in blankets, extra gravy etc)

Unreal! Just goes to show that the information changes depending on who you speak to. The police will tell you a resounding NO - you cannot drive a residents car without a UAE license. I was also told this by a Police Captain who lived next door to me

Advice for visitor looking to get behind the wheel Thursday, October 31, 20137DAYS Follow Dear Roger 'Puzzled visitor is looking for a licence to drive' (Letters, Oct 29), I did a bit of digging on this. This is what I found out: It appears that the UAE temporary driving licence no longer exists, and that the information on the consular website has not been updated. I then went to the RTA and was reliably informed by a helpful member of the staff, that if you are a visitor on a British passport and you have a valid UK driving licence, you can drive a vehicle, provided you have permission from the owner. Do you have any advice on this issue?. Send your letter to [email protected] It took a lot of effort to get this information as the rule does not seem to be clear, but I feel confident that the RTA was correct. You might wish to double check with them. Happy driving. Peter, Dubai This is what I got told from RTA and Insurance company my son went off to uni And comes back often he also bring an international driving license from uk although not asked for just bib and braces. It is a very grey area and not one I would risk. I have been told by 2 separate insurance companies that if you are involved in a crash then you would not be covered by insurance unless you were on a visit visa and using a hire car or have a UAE licence. Temporary licences were phased out years ago

Huh, same here! Have been in the same villa for 3.5 years and the bill arrives today with almost the exact same amount as you, QueenL .... guess they've finally tightened up on some processes? Same amount, eh? How strange...well I called the office and they immediatley asked where I lived and it seemed to me that he half expected this ? He laughed ( not in a bad way) when I told him how much it was and he said yes, that is very high and I have been advised to go to the office at Manara to get it all checked out...will update after that...has someone pressed the wrong button? I wish! Same situation for me at THE LAKES. Being the owner of the property I believe they have used the RERA Index for this area and calculated the 5% on it. In any case 2500AED of Housing Fee for this months its crazy. I hope next months will be more affordable. I'm scared to call DEWA and to be charged for the past as well. I have been paying housing fee for 3 years and last month my bill was 450AED ( I know very low) this month however it has shot up to AED800 and I have no clue why. No leaks, water heaters off, a/c rarely on and I am at work all day and out most weekends?

I have a Tiguan and i love it! I wouldn't change it for any other car. Servicing or parts are not expensive. I've had the Tiguan for 6 months and had a golf before that for 2 years, nothing went wrong on either, neither was bought new and both bought with around 90,000 kms. Volkswagen is much nicer in side and much better quality in my opinion, even down to the buttons on the radio. Go for the Tiguan I have been driving VW's for 17 years and love them ha. The Tiguan is so cute but I am a boy racer at heart and love my Golf's hahaha

You should also consider the costs of servicing/spare parts. VW/Audi are notoriously expensive on servicing. A Toyota Fortuner would also be a good option. My DH used to have one & we were very happy with it. edited by kimmc3 on 30/10/2013 I have a VW Golf and my servicing isn't expensive at all, not even on the big services In 5 years no new parts either. Runs like a dream and a/c is very good

If we take our maid to assist us, do we have to pay for her to go into any of the water parks? I know in my country carers are free in various parks etc. TIA Are you serious!!! Yes of course you have to pay, how do they know that she won't dip a toe in the pool, have a go on a ride etc .... I don't know of anyone in the UK where a maid would get in for free! Here is a glance into kind of situations I am facing. My DD loves sucking her thumb. Knowing this an old aunt of mine tells me I should let her do that because it’s going to protrude her jaw. I do SNI (smile, nod, ignore). A few days later we bump into her in a mall, she sees my DD happily thumb sucking in her pram and looks at me like ‘Still’?? I tell her I read on the internet that thumb sucking is a good soothing technique till the age of 3-4. She tells me from her experience she knows that’s nonsense. I do SNI again. Two days ago she dropped by for tea and literally pulls my DD’s little thumb out from her mouth seeing her sucking it. I wish I should have shouted but I did SNI yet again due to the fear of offending this otherwise really helpful lady. In fact she took care of me for 3 weeks when I fell really sick during my pregnancy. I would just say something along the lines of. "I know it's bad but orthodontic dentists can do amazing things these days, so I am not stressed out over it", and smile. edited by Alismum on 30/10/2013 Nice One Alismum.Im definetly gonna say something like this next time. SNI just wont work with this lady. I wasn't given a dummy and sucked my fingers until I was 16 ( Very embarrassing at sleepovers) it hasn't done anything to my gums/teeth and I am now over 40!

Sorry Sarah, I was out the country, only just got back. Yes you can do it at the Mazaya centre, in the typing shop closest to the side of Shk Zayed road, not the ne in the back - if that makes sense. I was easy and only took 10 minutes. Sorry I am confused. Is the typing shop in the Mazaya Centre? ( I know where that is) or next to the Mazaya Centre. Thank you :-)
