UK driving is a dream compared to ME. I wouldnt drive here, never have done and never will. Hope there is no fatalities. How do you know if you have never driven here? It is a dream driving at home compared to the UAE Salsa doesn't have to have driven here to know that. People are far more courteous and respectful on the roads back home. I have never been almost run down, tailgated, undertaken, swerved into, reversed into, screamed at, driven infront of and slammed on in front at at home. I have driven all over the world and this is the worst place although I do believe other M.E countries are worse :-)

A dear friend of mine has unfortunately been made redundant and is seeking the above role. He is a proactive kind of chap and has seeked new employment, had interviews, and again unfortunately some agencies have been giving him the run around. He has been based in the ME for the last 5 years, so if any girls have any leads or know of any companies that are recruiting, he is readily available to start work immediately. Hope you can help!!!! Hi ladies, I urgently need to find white ankle socks for my 6 years old girl for school, you know those for the black girls shoes at school, not for sport and not in heavy cotton? Totally agree - all the roads have been blissful and no accidents until this week! Says a lot! 1st day back today Polly and I started in a bad mood due to the wannabe racing drivers!

All of a sudden my phone has no sound, other than vibrates. Not pressed any buttons to change anything. Can anyone help. Tia. switch it off or restore it Go into settings and check sounds you can toggle also Mine has a mind of its own! :-) If I restore it what does this do, do I lose all my numbers?? thanks All my I phone stuff is backed up to I cloud so I have never lost anything as after restoring I just attach it to the laptop Try switching it off and going into sounds on settings first Have you turned the volume down on the left hand side? I don't want to be responsible for you restoring it and you lose your stuff eeek Mine has a mind of its own and now goes onto voice activation on its accord I am switching to Samsung as had nothing but problems with I phone :-(

Thankyou all. Sent the relevant legislation by email and links, got phoned and then slightly hassled by phone. After stating our case and being clear we would rather communicate by email, the landlady sent a rather ungracious e mail saying we can stay for the year and that the apartment will be sold. Girding our loins for viewing hassle and have written off the deposit! Thanks for the advice. My advice is don't be bullied! Just so you know if she doesn't sell ( within 2 years of you leaving) and wants to move in someone new and up the price you can drag her through the rent committee again! selling usually means I want to up the rent

I went through the same thing this year - Our landlord gave us two months to leave as he wanted to ''move in''. He had to serve us 12 months notice from the end of the last agreement. (also had to do on same price) We do now have a non renewable contract. And if he doesn't move in you can take him through the rent committee! ( within 2 years of you moving out) as per my other post moving in normally means new tenants higher rent!

I wouldn't trust an agency nanny to stay with my son at home alone. Emirates nursing etc are way too expensive, what is a cost effective, trustworthy solution to have someone look after my baby for 15 days while I am at work? Any nurseries/day care centers that would accept a short term 15 day tenure? See my other reply to your post

Hi OP! As a fellow Swede I can tell you that the schooling in Dubai won't match the quality back home. But there are schools that offer additional Swedish curriculum so I would advise you to seek those out. Speak to the Swedish church (shared with the Norwegian Seamen's Church on Oud Metha Road) and join the community forums on Facebook (Swedes in the UAE for example). Also, in Sweden a 30k salary would be considered really good, but as some of the other posters say it won't be easy to manage on this with a family in Dubai. My advice to you would be to forget about living in a villa. They are much more expensive to rent and also cost much more in terms of utilities etc. Get a nice apartment instead. You can get almost the same living space for less rent, with a much lower utility cost and usually the white goods is already in place, saving you the expense of buying it yourselves. There are relatively "cheap" apartments of a good size and of good standards in areas like Motor City, The Greens (old bit), JLT, JBR and Mirdif. Good luck/lycka till! The Greens has shot up in the last year :-( even the old bits

thank you so much! I just can't stop crying, I can't even call my insurance because I can't speak right now. I am so shocked. I also don't have insurance at home, but I believe it should be easy to go back and get it. I am flying home next week as I am totally overwhelmed, but I was told by my OBGYN on the phone that I should not fly in the first trimester :-( I have no choice though. I just feel so stupid that I did not know that my insurance would not cover pregnancy!!! I was happy about the baby until I realized that. I felt all of a sudden so overwhelmed and helpless... It could also be the hormones. Wow, maybe you should consider not having the baby. With this sort of a reaction, you just don't seem ready to have a child. Is anyone ever really ready? I imagine not all are planned Congratulations OP and try not to worry :-)

I can't seem to find an answer to this anywhere so am hoping someone can help! My husband is awaiting his residency visa through work in Dubai but we are going to live in Umm al Quwain. When applying for visas for the children and myself do we do that in Dubai or in Umm al Quwain? Roughly how long does the process take ( hoping to avoid having to do a visa run!). Many thanks 7 to 10 days normally You should be on a Dubai visa also

hi quite often we want to spend the night in dubai ( we live in another emirate) and its difficult to get someone to watch our 2 very small dogs. does anyone know of any short term rentals ie one or two nights that allow pets. thanks very much for any help. We always take the kids to the counter next to e-gate except when the queue there is longer that other queues (like on Fri night / Sat am last week when every line was backed up for miles) Does anyone know what the electronic counters to the right of the passport controls are? They are marked for residents and visa holders. There are about 20 of them and they have pictures which would indicate you can swipe your own passport, insert your own ID card or swipe your E-gate card to get through. We saw one couple use them but there kids had to take their passports for manual processing. We asked several of the "How can I Help you" staff as well as the counter man what they were and how we could use them but no one could give us a clear answer. We were told no kids by one lady and kids OK by another. If and when these do work, it will change passport control forever for the better. I think I went through one last night and it was just another e gate card counter They were dotted next to the normal counters every other one I think

Well I'll apologise in advance as I'm sure there is a thread about this already, but I couldn't find it ...so...I am leaving Dubai from Terminal 1 and want to renew my e-gate card before I leave the country, because , well you all know why! those queues to get back in are just mental. Has anyone done it? can you talk me through it please? How? where? how much? etc etc. I will be so grateful I will do an air punch and shout your name ! No idea about terminal 1 as I did my on SZR cost is 225 for 2 years Just needed my passport and residence visa Took minutes I would Google E-gate at terminal 1 as the office at terminal 3 is open 24 hours

I tried digging in some info but cant find much. Is it legal to hire part-time maid who is on her husband's residency visa?? She used to work for the company I use but now she has left that job and is on a residency visa sponsored by her husband. What kind of jobs is she allowed to do if not domestic work? Want to guide her towards the right direction. would appreciate if you share whatever you know about this. Thanks!! I don't think so I think you have to sponsor her or she comes via an agency OP may be able to tell you 100%

Hi ladies, I wouldn't normally post things of such a personal nature but I am really hoping someone can help. I have been on the contraceptive pill Norimin for quite some time (in Australia) I have just tried to get it here in Dubai at a few pharmacies but I'm not having any luck. In fact, the pharmacies I have tried don't even have an alternative with the same level of ingredients. Anyone been on Norimin, know if its available here or if there is a suitable alternative? edited by Thunderbird on 15/08/2013 I have never seen it Why not Google the ingredients and check the ingredients of the ones available here :-)

Hi ladies, Have spent today visiting a list of hospitals and getting info on their packages. I will be self paying. Can anyone recommend a good doctor at any of the following hospitals: - Al Zahra Private Hospital - International Modern Hospital - American Hospital - Medcare - Saudi German Hospital. Any advice would be much appreciated. I also have the info on these hospitals and more re package prices. If anyone needs this info, just let me know. Thank you! I haven't heard the best reports on SG especially their Gynaes! Have never been myself though a poster wrote about her experience there and it was awful!

Nasty worse than Crocs ;-) Okay, usually I always agree with you -- but not this time, I have to say, they're both godawful, but there is nothing is uglier than Crocs! :-) edited by amkcbrandon on 13/08/2013 *like* Crocs are THE ugliest things on the planet! I've had a few issues with sprained ankles and when I turned up for my first appointment at the physioptherapist wearing Birkies, he was pleased, and recommended putting them on as soon as I got up each day, and wearing them as much as poss, as they offered the best level of cradling and support for the feet. They have such a large range now, of all colours and cute designs, not just the nasty ones :) Still don't agree, even with colours and designs still ugly ;-) however each to their own :-)

ALWAYS keep a set of keys until they've given you your money back. I say 'No deposit, no keys'. Never had an issue. My new LL hasn't even bothered to cash my security cheque. I hope he realises they become useless after 6 months. I know someone who did this and when they had moved out the LL changed the locks

Is it just me or do these sandals look exactly like the early style of Scholl sandals? I wore these sandals in the 70s and some of the Birkenstock sandals look almost identical. Some had wooden soles but others had leather ones even then. I too, wear shoes for comfort and don't have the prettiest feet due to surgical scars and other issues but I'm afraid I still wear sandals in the summer to keep my feet cool. We can't all have beautiful feet even with our best efforts ;) I remember my Mum wore scholls, my Sister got a whack on the bum with them many years ago ;-)

So a long time ago, I signed up for one of those group voucher things like Living Social. Even though I unsubscribed shortly afterward, I now get hundreds of voucher emails from new companies every week! Are there that many voucher companies popping up? This week it's Wowcher. I can't keep up with deleting them all and I have never ever bought anything from any one of these sites, as I think they're a bit of a scam ... does this happen to anyone else? Thanks for the replies ladies, they have been really helpful. Springs 14 sounds good, and great that it has 2 pools and walking distance to Spinneys. At the moment we don't have a car and hubby would be taking a taxi to and from his office in Media City, do you think getting a taxi from there would be an issue? Thanks for the rundown LoopyLoo, it definitely would be good to be located near to one of the Spinneys and walking distance to a pool, I heard Springs 11 has 2 pools also. It's ridiculous how rents just shoot up like that. I know someone who lives in springs 1 4m for 99,000aed and we are struggling to find one in good condition for 120,000aed. We saw a really good 4m in springs9 for 120,000aed but we are trying to hold out for a 4e, but we must just take it because it has been well maintained. Any info about Springs 9? Thanks again Taxis are plentiful however if you hang around on the main road you would get one far quicker than calling one from the house
