I do not have a degree, does that mean I am stupid? I have a very good job which I am good at and am paid well for Lots of my friends have degrees and cannot find work? others don't and have good jobs so that comment makes no sense whatsoever My hubby has 6 A levels, a 1st class degree, 2 Masters, a CFA, CIMA and various other qualifications and was out of work for 6 months last year! lol bless him! I know and you tend to find a lot of people back home over a certain age do not have a degree and yet have very senior positions in certain industries ( My BIL is one example)

England only functions well in the rain. In summer with heatwaves, everyone melts and everything stops working. In winter when there is snow, all the trains and transport grinds to a halt. Trains are cancelled if leaves blow on the tracks. No one has snow chains or 4x4s. AC is unheard of (the tube in summer is a sweat pit). At least the UK has seasons which is nice :) I miss the seasons. My house in the UK overlooks a huge oak tree and I miss watching it change over the year ( Time to go back home for a bit I think)

I can imagine it must be pretty awful - no homes are built for heat they are built to keep warmth in and cold out - no a/c, ceiling fans - nowt - the elderly people must be melting - I know my Gran is, her flat is like a furnish :( My Sister has thick carpets and she said it has been unbearable as her house retains heat It is easy for us to scoff as we live in Air con.

We've been hunting for a Nepali maid forever. We got this guy's reference from 3 of our friends who don't know each other, so we were very hopeful he'll be trustworthy. He sent us a few profiles, we selected a lady who we thought would do well in our family. DH did the preliminary visa formalities but we had told Shan strictly that we will not be going ahead unless we speak to her on the phone and know that she understands Hindi or English. He assured us that she speaks Hindi well, but she will be able to talk to us only when she reaches Kathmandu from her village. Sure enough, he gave us a number to call today but when I tried talk talking to her we realised she doesn't speak any Hindi and obviously, is miles away from English. She started giggling over the phone which really annoyed me and gave the phone back to the Nepali agent (Shan's partner) who then tells me that she understands Hindi but cannot speak. We have decided to cancel her visa because I cannot add the pressure of teaching this lady a new language, along with other things that she will have to learn when she works with a new family, in a new, foreign country. This guy has assured us that he will find us a replacement, and even though he comes with references, I am really skeptical about him after this experience. Has anyone dealt with him? Would really like to hear some feedback if anyone has. Is this guy a registered business person or just some random who finds maids Would you not be worried he may do a runner with your money if not legitimate?

We are looking into purchasing our own medical insurance and I've gotten back a few quotes and am trying to compare - does anyone currently have / has used any of these? AXA Health - Integra - HTH/GeoBlue - Oman Insurance Company - Now Health As I said I already received quotes and can compare the benefits myself, etc but I wanted to know from people here if they have used any of these in Dubai before and how good is the insurance ? customer service, availability to choose from good doctors/hospitals, claims/reimbursement issues or difficulties, etc. advice much appreciated!! Try the website www.insureme.ae as it gives different quotes I found AXA to be overpriced wheras the same cover at RSA was AED3500 cheaper

Please post your experience for us. I'm thinking about some changes ;) I used to go there but now a friend does my hair for (peanuts) If my friend was not here I would go straight back to them as they were the only place that could deal with fine, blond hair without bleaching it or turning it yellow They are always busy and i imagine some people may of had a bad experience on the whole for 3 plus years I loved them. There are not many places here I trust but these guys are on I do Pollydxb and others on here go on a regular basis

Its depends if the contract is limited or unlimited. I'm working also in a freezone and on a limited contract. Ii i want to resign before the contract is over the company can make me paying 45 days of my salary to compensate visa costs. Thats labour law within the freezone (not tecom) limited has nothing to do with visa costs all limited contracts incur the above whether Freezone or not. I know people on unlimited contracts that have paid back visa costs

There was no mistaking the lady strutting round media city in denim hotpants yesterday. Could not believe my eyes but then as CW says, maybe she just doesn't get what modest dress means. I saw a 12 year old in MOE on Saturday wearing what I could only describe as denim gym knickers.

It is not and there isn't anything in the labor law to say this is allowed however certain companies will do this and continue to do so. There isn't anything you can do about it either as they can take it out of salary when you leave. It has happened to so many people I know

Turkey looks very appealing at this point. Just afraid of all the "pushy" drunk tourists. Anybody have any experience with a child friendly all included hotel? Avoid Bodrum and Gumbet as all the party people tend to go there

I've tried shopping and it asks for a US Credit card for shipping to my SnS address - how do you ladies handle this ? And yes Shivi is right - the USD prices are much cheaper than the AED ones. I use my UAE one and this was the one that was registered with SnS Phone their customer services they are really helpful and good :-) Sorry sarahlou - do you mean you use the UAE credit card registered with SnS and give the billing address as the SnS address ?? I think the billing address is my UAE one

Quick question on car registration; is there any difference between Abu Dhabi and Dubai car registrations ? I know Dubai renewals are more expensive, but is there any other difference? And lets say you have a Dubai registration, is it difficult to change it to an Abu Dhabi registration ? I would call the RTA and ask I remember when my ex worked in AUD and had a AUD D/L but wanted to register his motorbike in Dubai it was a nightmare to do I cannot remember the details though

Hi can anyone help. My ex husband and and I have amicably agreed to get divorced. We both live over here but separately. We have separated for more than 2 years. We are looking to get divorced without the use of a solicitor. I've looked in to applying to the courts to get divorced in the uk, but it states that we have to be residents of the uk. Please can anyone tell me whether this could pro-long the length of time it takes to divorce if we are both residing over here. I was planning to use both our parents addresses as the residential and contact addresses. And mention that we do have a property together in the uk which are registered under our married names. Does anyone one know If that will be enough? Please help I hoping to get this over and done with as soon as possible My friend did it online and saved a small fortune! I think it may be difficult for you to get on the websites being in the UAE as they are blocked. A Google search may help you

I always find on regular economy class I don't have enough leg space, and on my last night flight I got 1 hour sleep as I was so uncomfortable. Wasn't able to get the front seat right behind Business Class:( Are the Premium Economy seats in BA good? Planning a family visit to UK so might consider premium economy.. If they are anything like KLM's seats with more leg room then worth paying for. Virgins are a rip off and same as Emirates Airbus size Perhaps worth looking on-line at the pitch/width etc I flew AF at Xmas and the seats were the same as BA I could not sit comfortably at all it was that cramped It says 38 inches, the same as Virgin. AF was bad too for me, I was pleasantly surprised with Lufthansa, they have good service and the aircraft was brand new and had loads of space. Would recommend them. Never flown BA or Virgin so not sure if I want to take the risk. I went Premium Economy on Virgin and got upgraded to 1st class as they are usually overbooked. It tends to work if you are travelling alone :-) Sounds tempting then :P Don't mind flying first class. I just really need the extra leg space, I'm not overly tall (5"8) but I just don't seem to be able to sit comfortably! Though I was very close on Qatar Airways.. I am the same height and cannot get comfortable either so you are not alone. I have been business class on a few occasions and after there do not want to go back to economy :-)

how can you be traumatised by being turned away from a party? Maybe she should go and do some volunteer work in a third world country to see some real trauma. Her and her teen mum need a few slaps. I would hate to be a teenager in todays times. The emphasis seems to be entirely on looks, weight etc. All so false

What price should I expect for a 1 or 2BDR apartment in Dubai? Hubby's office is near academic city but I don't want him to be isolated from the world. if his office is in academic city then living in JLT would not be close to work at all... he's better off staying in Silicon Oasis! the apartments there are quite competitively priced and would be only around 40-50K Do you know if it is a well established area with a community feel or a construction site? The Greens costs around 70-90AED for a 1 bed
