Mango has a local site now and delivers within 2 days, free of charge if you sound over 500dhs. I have a package arriving today which I've ordered on Tuesday night, and based on past purchases, they are always very efficient! They had loads of maxi dresses and maxi skirts when the sale started, but you can still find a few more! http://shop.mango.com/AE/mango What will happen if you need to return an item? Wrong size or faulty item? There is a CS page on the website with returns etc on it

Hi Was wondering if family daycare exists here, eg at a proper childminder's house as per the UK/Aus.... I don't have a maid and don't want the minimum 3 mornings at nursery, just a morning or so a week so I can go to the gym when hubby away! Maybe it's not an option here but thought I'd find out. I know there are agencies but preferably a registered (or equiv) childminder with a couple of children to look after at her own house, would be more fun for the little one too. Thanks I don't think it does due to the laws here

As soon as I read the title of your post, my first thought was "elastic"! Another passtime was buidling 'dens' from bricks / buillders rubbish on the housing estate we lived on! We used to make tents from blankets Pegged them to the washing line in the back garden

Do you think it is feasible in two weeks? Finding a flat, transferring my villa, finding a removal company and installing the whole flat? My husband thinks I am crazy to even consider it :-( Anybody has been in a similar situation? 2 weeks that is a squeeze I hope it works out for you :-)

Where to live? Due to personal reasons the kids and I are moving back to the UK for a year and my husband has to stay here for work reasons.  We live in a fantastic 4bed villa just next to my daughter's school. My husband wants to keep the villa for when we will return to Dubai ( he thinks we don't have time to do anything as he is working and I have to take care of my two babies ) but I think it is a major waste of money as it is to big for him alone, and anyway he is always traveling so never home. Plus I know these villas are unique and very popular and the waiting list is very long as people tend to stay there. What should I do? Find someone to take over the villa and rent a small flat for my DH or just leave things as it is? I really thing that it is a waste as the amount saved could pay for the nursery back in the UK and this villa will be more useful for a family going to the same school as my daughter. What would you do? I only have two weeks to take the decision... I would downsize to somewhere smaller and save on the rent There are some lovely 2 bed apartments in Dubai

I went there last week and I couldn't believe the prices. We told me so many good things about offers available but I couldn't find anything interesting. I truly prefer Deira or Bur Dubai. What do you go there for? Am I missing something? edited by sweetcoconut on 10/07/2013 Prices have increased in the last few years but still some bargains to be had

Hi I have a question for a friend - if hubby's visa is cancelled, but he sponsors wife and baby - are they also automatically cancelled because the visa is no longer valid? TIA Yes Great thanks. That is what I thought - and they won't have any issue re-entering country - they are British, hubby is getting a new job but they have already left for the summer? No problem at all when he gets his new visa they will just go back on to it

I dont think you can do visa runs - you may need to go to DNRD and see if you can extend your visa. Filipinas cannot do runs, they would need to exit the country and come back after 30 days I believe

Ok Im back from shopping in IBN Battuta mall. I found a gorgeous Maxi dress that jumped at me straight away but i wasnt sure because it was 365 dirham! and im not working BUT after trying on other dresses I just knew it was the one for me....for now. Soooo I bought it! Yikes. But I love it :) I asked my BF to take me out over the weekend just so I can wear it. Who cares if im on crutches im sicka hiding away. Thanks for all your suggestions. :) Lou Just cant understand why maxi dresses are so expensive here. All of Dubai is expensive for clothes. They say shopping is tax free? Yea right 30% added on I just came back from Holland and it's waaaaay more expensive there than it is here. Euro countries are very expensive and most brands here are cheaper for me. Even in UK I found it expensive. Maybe not the local UK brands but in general my money evaporated from my hands. Here I can buy a lot more. Clothing wise UK is way more cheaper than here. All the clothes I buy from the UK cost at least 30% more here and the UK sales are way cheaper Case in point I bought a dress from Oasis UK online AED56 here it is over AED500???? That's why I said in the UK the local UK brands will probably be cheaper. my money evaporates regardless ;-) looooooool. But really go to Holland and see what expensive is. It's crazy. I lived in Germany so I know. I saw a huge difference when the DM changed to the Euro but we were tax free back then also and could claim it back

If you fall into the category of those nationalities that gets visa upon arrival, then do a visa run. or pay 600dhs to get them done in dubai. Mine is a Visit Visa for 3 months under my Sisters Sponsorship. If I got a job before my visa expires, how long will it taketo process from visit to employment visa? I did not think you could go straight from visit to employment visa You may have to exit and come back to collect your visa from immigration Visa approval takes 7-10 working days however maybe longer due to Ramadan and how good the company PRO is

New look has a good selection of maxi dresses, not expensive, most below 200dhs. Not all stores carry the same stock though so may have to visit a couple. I find they quality of NL is awful I have bought several dresses from there and they have ended up looking like dish rags after a few washes and had holes in them? strange I know

I haven't met Mr. Right here. But I have met my Mr. though:) It really depends on what relationship you want and what kind of guy you're looking for. For example TanAmbassador's approach wouldn't work for me as I only speak to a guy who is ready and looking for marriage. And no dating. Straight to the court lol. Hopefully in a few months:) Can I ask how you would know what he is like if you just got married immediately? What if he turned out to be a terrible person I suppose this could happen even after dating however I am curious about this :-)

Have you ever tried the eyelash extension thing at Salon Ink ? ;) x No I haven't I have had eyelash extensions done at Tips and Toes and at home and they drove me mad. I use falsies for when I go out Oooh that is good to know, that is exactly what I was worried about - as just about everything irritates my eyes - from powdery eye shadow etc ... Thanks I will probably give them a skip then x I could feel them on my face and I didn't like having my eyelids taped down for 2 hours I couldn't sleep whilst having them do and had several urges to open my eyes haha

Hi, Does anyone know where I can get a nice Maxi Dress for a reasonable price in Dubai? Or any good Souqs for shopping at decent prices. Thanks I like maxi dresses too. I went to London early this year and bought a couple of maxi dresses during the sale from River Island. It was very resonable. If you do go to London try buying some from there. All the UK sales are also on so great time to bag a bargain!

Any recommendations for good dry cleaners who will clean raw silk items (wedding dress, christening gown, etc.) and wrap in acid-free tissue for storage? Is there one called Churchills or something? My friend used to use them and said they were the only ones she would ever trust with delicate/expensive items

I don’t think Dubai is too bad when it comes to meeting ‘great and genuine’ men. There are a lot out there who are very decent and willing to commit if they see the “right signs” from these women. It is a human nature thing that “we want what we can’t have!” FACT! This goes the same with how men perceive a relationship. If women are too serious esp. on the first few dates, men can feel your desperation, the pressure and see you as ‘needy’, hence they become uncommitted/scared and will runaway eventually. Imagine a man you just met will appear in your door step with 5 dozens of flowers and tell you to marry him as he can’t live without you in his life- your first move is to run as far as you can, right? Also, for men, they want to feel that the woman want them for “who they are” and not for “what they can bring into her life” i.e. to complete the missing piece in her life. I’ve been in Dubai for 8 years now and had few decent long-term relationships. And now I am getting married soon to my wonderful Dane partner I met in Dubai last 2011. I can say he is so into me, he loves me more than I love him. FEW THINGS I did that I think was effective to get him and other men more interested to me were: - I showed no interest in marriage and kids yet. And that I was always cool. The more I don’t talk about commitment, marriage, and kids, the more he talk about our future together. - I never added him in Facebook and one day he called me and asked if he can add me as his partner in FB. I said cool! I also never add photos of us together and never commented on his FB, this made him feel I am not a needy person. -When I phoned him and he didn’t answer. I don’t call him again and again like a mad woman, I let him call me back and answer his call ONLY when it is convenient to me. -I stayed mysterious – I mean don’t tell EVERYTING to them. Also, don’t tell your life story in a first date... -I do a lot of sports, gym, and I go out a lot with my friends. This made him feel I can live an enjoyable life even without him. -I NEVER ask for permission. I am not suggesting to play mind games here, what I am trying to say is to be CONFIDENT, SHOW GOOD MANNERS, AND BE INDEPENDENT- they find these very attractive and makes them want to stay. Because they don’t feel pressured and don’t see you as a burden. The result for me was great – I get to choose who I want to be and not just an option for someone else. ;-) NOTE: Sorry if I sounded lecturing, this is just my own opinion and style and thought to share it, I am sure a lot of ladies here have different ways of dealing with men. So please be gentle if there’s any violent reactions in the way I deal with men. :-) Good luck SH12. Read "why men marry b@@@@@s and it adopts the same principle as above I agree entirely with what you say :-) An author in the UK Natalie Lew called Baggage Reclaim has a website as she has met many horrors in her time and she gives great advice for meeting/dating men and her posts are funny She is now happily with someone. Most of my friends met their Husbands here. 3 of them in Longs Bar of all places and they are great guys.

Hi Does anyone know where I can get my UK driver license translated before swapping it. I have heard that the translation process often takes a few days..wondering if there are any offices that can do it the same day!? I'm in Raha Gardens but prob guess I would have to go to town. Thanks! Is this an Abu Dhabi thing as I didn't translate mine I would of thought the police station that does your eye test/UAE driving licence etc would have this facility if it is a pre requisite

Do you believe that any of the Midfle East carriers would allow poochs onboard for those with a nervous disposition? http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=10896343 I know dogs for the visully impaired are one thing, but this.seems a bit OTT. If you have a pooch and heading to the USA, a quick trip to the therapist and off you all go. Could be cheaper than paying for a boarding kennel. I thought some airlines did allow it and pets have had their own seats!

Thanks ladies, I'm not sure what her preferred mode of transport would be, but travelling to Deira, I would agree that Metro be preferred mode of transport. Thanks for the info. In that case the Greens isn't the best area, as I don't think there is a good link to the metro - too far to walk from MOE, she could look at TECOM, or JLT, Marina or even Executive Towers all great for the metro. edited by pollydxb1 on 10/07/2013 Greens is a 10 min walk from Metro station ( Dubai internet city metro) and we have own our minibus to take us to the metro. 8000 for a studio in the Greens wowza Polly I am in a huge one bed in one of the new buildings which was decorated by an interior designer and only pay 5,500 a month.. All furnished and all bills? Maybe I got it wrong? I need to double check, yeah this is a new building the ones that look over the golf course - forgotten the name :) Links or Fairways I imagine, I am next to them 8000 for a studio sounds expensive as the one beds in there are only 7 a month
