i have http://www.dyson.co.uk/vacuumcleaners/handhelds/dc34/dc34-animal.aspx and i love it. I have a British blue and she leaves grey fluff everywhere; this is the only vacuum that removes her from my sofa ;) I have had it a few years and so far is maid proof ;) I had seen that one but with having rugs I feel the other is better Thank you for your advice I am going to buy the other one after work My ex DH took the Dyson when we split ( Not that he had ever hovered a day in his life) and I was devastated

Hi Had to look up the address as had no idea what neighbourhood that was - ok, so office is in Deira. She won't want to live in Deira. Will she drive here or use the metro? The costs for the accommodation depend on where she will want to live. If it is FF self serviced, that will include DEWA and TV normally. My friend pays 8,000 per month all inclusive in the greens for a studio - but it is gorgeous. Monthly groceries would be roughly 2,000 - depending on her tastes JLT does cheaper studios my friend pays 36,000( The bedroom is separate but doesn't have a door and it is unfurnished 8000 for a studio in the Greens wowza Polly I am in a huge one bed in one of the new buildings which was decorated by an interior designer and only pay 5,500 a month.. Regarding DEWA watch for district cooling, I pay no more than 400-600 monthly ( Summer and Winter) There will be studios all over Dubai although Downtown and The Marina may be around the 6-7000 mark. Food I would agree with Polly I spend a lot on food :-)

You audibly laugh that people on the UK think that it is soooooo hot there when it reaches above 28 degrees and weather warnings are issued when it goes above 30. The fact that it doesn't even go that low here in summer, even over night, would suggest that the flesh fest is an over reaction to a bit of sun - as rare as it may be in the UK. I think that's a bit unfair. The fact is that most English homes are designed to keep the heat in, with thick insulation and carpets making it extremely uncomfortable to even sleep at night in 30+ temperatures. People generally don't complain that it's too hot to sit out in the garden or go down to the beach; the problem comes when they have to go back indoors as it can be unbearable. We can laugh all we like about it over here but most of us live in buildings specifically designed to cope with this kind of weather - cool tiles on the floor, reflective windows and, of course, the ubiquitous air conditioning. I was in Spain last year and the temperature at night was 30 degrees The aircon broke in the hotel and it was awful, the sheets on the bed were soaked and I did not sleep as was a sweaty mess We are fortunate that we have aircon

google : article 65 of federal law number 8 they need to reduce your working hours by 2 and it must not effect your pay. the non muslims at our work place are working normal hours and those who are observing ramadan are working 6 hours a day Thanks ladies! I spoke to HR they said I'm getting paid by the hour (unlike other full-time employees), as in I have to do 8 hours a day to get my full salary since I'm temporary, so if I work less hours, I get paid less. I think since I'm Muslim and fasting and I'm a woman, they should allow me less hours? Not sure what to do :( edited by sourskittleashnut on 10/07/2013 Most of my temps are paid by the hour and if they work less than stated their pay is reduced

Hi ladies, I cant find this online, is anyone familiar enough with the labour law to know whether temporary employees don't get shorter Ramadan hours? I'm in a temp position for 3 months and I work full hours (8am till 5pm), apparently I don't get shorter hours according to HR. I'm fasting so either way I'll work shorter hours and take a pay cut, but of course ideally I'd like not to! Which area of Dubai do you work in? If it is the DIFC then only fasting Muslims have shorter hours, all other areas have to conform to shorter hours

You could also go to Koton or Promod for the undershirts....they're very thin, not turtlenecks. Then you have the option to wear it with or without the jacket, and you'll still be cool. Ok that would be a great idea. I am going to go to these stores to see these undershirts. Then I could wear any maxi dress. You will end up catching me up on the amount of dresses :-)

I wear a bandeau top underneath the low cut ones I suppose you would know it as a boob tube but it covers from top of breasts to stomach under the dress I have them in various colours and bought them from Mango/Zara Vest tops do the same trick I should of said that before Anon

I would love to find a maxi dress without a low neckline. Do these exist? I have many as being big busted I am conscience of the décolletage area It is a case of shopping around Could you let me know if you see any soon? I wear an abaya but am going to Europe soon so ideally I'd like to wear maxi dresses with just a light black jacket to cover my arms. I don't want to wear a turtleneck under the maxi dress so I'd like something that will cover my chest. I don't really have time to go shopping so I would appreciate if you know any specific places where these are found. Of course I will :-)

you didn't know any different.... I remember as a child i would be in our outdoor, unheated pool (UK) as soon as there was a glimmer of sun in the sky and my mother would have to drag our blue bodies out..... we loved it. Remember all the white tattooed men? Glimpse of sun and their tops are off!

When they hit puberty is when Muslim children would generally start to dress more conservatively. In any case, your style of dress shouldn't change just because it's Ramadan...it should be respectful no matter what time of year. Agree and there are so many tasteful clothes for kids regardless of the weather or Ramadan

I am currently renting my car for 2000 a month and was thinking about buying a car during ramadan. My friend has warned me off saying renting is cheaper as servicing, breakdowns, maintenance etc is a huge financial burden on a yearly basis. I plan to stay in Dubai for at least another year if not more and am a single person. In your opinion is it cheaper to rent or buy? If you are staying for one more year then rent one. I only bought because I knew I was going to be here for quite a few years My servicing costs were cheap as I had free servicing up to 75000 KM and the only things that have gone wrong were tyres which burst and cost me 600x3 Insurance has to be paid in one go I would try and work out rental costs v buying one If you do buy then get one with first years insurance free/3 year warranty and service up to a certain mileage

Where can I find Kite Beach at Yas please? it depends on which exit you will be coming from mbz, there are 2 ways. come out onto al ain road either at mahwi or ad university exits, go past the mussafah bridge exit, continue on the al ain road, past the cricket stadium and sas, then the next exit is the dubai exit, take that go down channel st past raha beach hotel on your left and the smartie building continue past the ad airport exit and then take the next exit towards yas island and the kite beach. coming right out of al ain road, towards mafraq take the new junction onto the ad/dxb road at mafraq continue along the main road, until the al reef exit then you continue to the yas island road from there.

Hi Ladies! Although I'm in an Emaar-managed property they don't do balcony cleaning in my area :( One of my doggies wasn't well and had a few accidents on my balcony (yuck!) so now I need it cleaned, ideally with one of those high pressure hoses Can anyone recommend a company that does this? I tried to find one around a year ago and not one company did this I ended up buying my own Karcher and did it myself

Not sure if my title is good but I am looking for a bed - headboard, base and mattress that is not too expensive but not Ikea stuff. Maybe cupboard too, but not necessarily an entire set. I had seen some last year at Freedom Furniture and absolutely loved them but found out they closed down in Mirdif CC. Does anyone know a store that sells that contemporary look here in Dubai/Abu Dhabi that does not cost the earth? TIA I bought a lovely bed from Pan Emirates with the most amazing mattress It wasn't too expensive at all

Hi All, I'm searching for advice & having little luck, so hoping somebody on here can help. I am a teacher at a non-profit school. I have been on an International contract for 3 yrs now. However, I was recently told that I may be moved to a local contract as I got married a year ago and the school feel it will save them money. My husband is not a teacher and receives no housing or flight allowance with his job. Can my work change my contract when my husband is not on an expat contract? Is this usual in schools here? Can i do anything about it? Thanks for any advice. I would try not to as you may lose your benefits ( Housing etc) They can pretty much do what they want so if they want to change it you cannot do anything about it. I have seen this happen a lot recently

And also I'm planning to buy a 7 seater which should be less than 150000 dirhams. Any ideas?? Is there a website here called glass house or something which gives you the value of your car Insurance companies should be able to advise say you are renewing and ask what the value is for a car of that age and mileage :-)

Your best option is to go to iftar at a Muslim family home. If you have Muslim friends, they will probably be very happy to have you over. I think the ones at the hotels are a huge waste of money (and not in the spirit of Ramadan at all). Like :-) And in a Muslim home, you will also get the true feeling of Ramadan, not just the WOW factor! edited by mrsb. on 08/07/2013 Nothing better than breaking the fast with my sisters, pray together.. No wasting of food either. One iftar I did like was the one in MediaOne Hotel. It's not too big, but has a really nice selection of food and good service. Other than that, I am anti-tent lol. What has a tent ever done to you ;-)

But having a maid does not inconvenience anyone else and your maid is your own personal staff who you pay and sponsor. Keeping a queue waiting (and it does invariably hold everyone up) because you can't be bothered to pack your own things is incredibly spoiled. And you speak for all of us that we have maids and so on - I don't, we clean our own house, our DD is in nursery while I work but the rest of the time I have not 1 bit of help with her, I do my own laundry, shopping, washing up, cooking, ironing, I don't sit down all evening and most weekends am busy doing household chores. Please don't assume all expats lie there on a chaise longue snapping their fingers at their maids to bring them some freshly squeezed lemonade. I thought we all did that although mine is more likely to be a G&T ;-)

Hmm... So we have 2 types of boys in Dubai: 1 Type that goes after women while the wife is here, and 1 type that waits for them to leave the country. This is really concerning then. Neither of these types are happy with what they have! But now we can't blame the locals/Egyptians/Syrians anymore! They ALL Do it when given the chance! Nope, most of them are British! I have had several approach me over the years and they have all been sent away with a flea in their ear.
