Not heard anything about a holiday, would be nice tho! Is there an occasion that makes you think it might be a holiday? It is the Prophet's Ascension therefore a holiday in the UAE I would of thought this would fall across the Middle East as KSA have the holiday

I don't know if I am just behind the times here but I took my car to be reregistered today and it failed as I have tinting (definitely not blacked out, I think 30%) on the front windscreen. They told me that from 1st May, there must be 0% tinting on the front windscreen and I need to have it removed. Is this widely known and somehow I just missed it? yep this is the case for abu dhabi has been for like 2 years maybe, maybe just being implemented in dxb. the rules were that its not been allowed to have any sort of tint on the front windscreen for "ever" just a little bit at the top since they brought in the rules for expats like 8 years or so ago, but now the front windscreen is not allowed at all, i think it may be something to do with all the new "eyes" around. There will be a lot of people having theirs removed then Most of the cars I see have tinting on the windscreen and some are even fully blacked out or mirrored!

Another report in 7 Days today about the scramble to purchase newly released unbuilt Villas. A few weeks ago it was reports of fighting breaking out between those who were queuing to buy properties. If I had the money I would certainly buy a property here now, however I wouldn't touch an unbuilt project with a barge pole, so I find it interesting that there appears to be hundreds and hundreds of people out there desperate to buy off plans. Do you think this is an accurate picture ? or is it just the 2 developers posturing against each other ? Was it the Nakheel project? They said most of the buyers were end users but I highly doubt it!

Yes and that is an option ( as a last resort) they all have tiny kitchens. Hoping someone may be going away for the summer and renting thier place out. I doubt anyone would rent their place out to strangers It is very different in this part of the world and also illegal ;-( There is no insurance in place to housesit or swap homes etc in this part of the world and it is classed as subletting. All it takes is a nosey neighbor to inform the authorities and the tenant would be in serious trouble. Personally speaking I would never do it and I highly doubt anyone else will You would be better going down the services apartment route :-)

Is it just one more episode this season? It always goes so quickly. Can't wait for next season though, and presumably, the Purple Wedding. I heard that they'll likely end the show at 7 seasons, though. Which is fair enough for the actors, but wonder how they'll do that? Find a way to wrap the whole story up or just leave it open-ended (presumably the books won't have finished by then)? I thought that last night was the last one judging by the shock factor!

I think you really need to have a new sim, as what you have now is a micro sim (most probably). Go to your nearest du or Etisalat shop (in any mall for example) and let them check out what you have. And whilst you're there, let them talk you through the various data bundles they have. I know that a pay as you go plan is always more expensive than a monthly data bundle. Perfect, thank you :) The little booths that mend shoes and cut keys at the mall can cut your sim down to a micro one They did mine for a small fee

Just made an appointment for a Kerastraight treatment at TMMC, and they asked me to pay a deposit in advance! It's a new policy that only applies to Kerastraight treatments, the reason being that they have to block 3-4 hours and sometimes people don't show. I refused, and after going back and forth with the manager was allowed to keep my appointment. Honestly, this is the risk that salons have to take - since when should it be the customer's problem? The deposit would come off the bill so i do not see what the problem is. When I have had expensive treatments I have paid a deposit up front My friend who is a hairdresser bought extensions for a client of hers. She ( my friend the hairdresser) had to pay for them upfront and then the client decided she no longer wanted them

Jumping into the tread...but withint the subject: Would anybody know when the "1 year notary letter notice to vacate" law is from? I have several emails from my landlady back in March 2012 requesting to vacate the villa for her son (among many other emails requesting a rent increase of 30%). Last August 2012 we won a case with the rent committee to renewal without increase. It seems like she has not learned her lesson, our rent expires in August 2013 and she insists in requesting for us to vacate based on her previous emails. I have talked with the rent committee and it seems like we are still on our rights to request a renewal without increase and they have recommended we open a case again if she doesn't agree. My concern is: Can she claim to have given an email notice prior to the law (for the notary letter)? Or does it really have to be a notary letter regardless of previous email communication? Our current contract is renewable. TIA It has to be an actual letter with 12 months notice and if my memory serves me correctly if she says she wants a family member to move in ( Oldest trick in the book) and they do not within 2 years you can file a case against her again and she would have to pay you compensation!

I am to soon get a phone over here but need advice on the best places to go and what I need to look for. I will be looking to get iPhone or Samsung - Do you have monthly contract deals like back home? Who is the best company to go with? Can you buy the phone outright and then use the top up if you want internet on the phone? Any help really appreciated :) Hello Etisilat and Du are the only main providers If you buy the phone outright they are more expensive than the UK as are the monthly plans I would go onto the websites of the above providers and see which is best for you I use pay as you go and just top up as and when. Most shops sell phones at similar prices

I am a young widow (currently 32). My daughter (age 3.5) and I are both British and American (dual citizens). We would like the opportunity to move to Dubai, and I am currently job searching. Are there many single mums in Dubai? Would it be a comfortable environment for us to live in? I am a single my mother with one kid living with me. Before moving to Dubai think twice if you can manage financially, its very expensive here (rents, schools etc) and very hard to combine work and kid. I am lucky that I can work from home and flexible hours, so don't need a nanny to take care of my kid and managing all by myself. (having a nanny you will need a bigger place too, and rents not cheap). The above post is correct with regards to it being expensive and the rents are gradually increasing daily!

Well we are off to "Grannies Heilan Hame" up the north of Scotland. Cheesy caravan park with cheesy entertainment although great for a 6 year old but great location for touring. Canny wait :-) I love out holiday park holidays and my kids still talk of going to the caravan park in Tenby with their nana every year. People can turn up there nose at things like this but the reality is - don't knock it till you've tried it. We're doing one in Europe this year, me and my grandchildren, a chalet kind of thing but a holiday camp nevertheless. We did one last year as well, a Les Mouettes camp, and it was fab. I used to escape and night to the launderette and do the washing. Tenby that brings back memories! Some of the best holidays I had were in Blackrock Sands in Wales great times!

To reduce the size of pores and turn back the clock.... Tia I am a fan of Botox! However only have it once a year and now I am 41 is it only for the wrinkles around my eyes which make me look tired My friend at home has every procedure done ( Not cosmetic enhancement though) so she doesn't look odd. She has had both peel and laser and said laser was the best She recently had Fraxel in the UK and whilst for a few days she resembled one of the cast members of Planet of the Apes here skin looked amazing afterwards!

Yes it's going around at the moment [url=http://www.emirates247.com/news/emirates/school-warning-on-chicken-pox-in-uae-2013-05-30-1.508468'>link[/url'> When my eldest had it I covered him in calamine lotions and also bought rescue remedy cream. I kept him off school a week. My LO had the vaccination. Thank for that link. Yes all our house either vaccinated (kids, me) or had it as a child (husband, maid) but we have all come down with it. It's not a full blown episode but we are still itchy and miserable. Is the milder form that we seem to have, as contagious as a first time sufferer would be? I had it as an adult it was awful. Calamine lotion was the only thing I could use 2-3 weeks it was gone

the landloards now want confirmation that the people can actually afford the rent In that case, they should allow tenants to pay monthly. Few people here can afford to pay a whole year's rent in advance out of their own pocket, so they have to rely on their company to front the cost (and fewer and fewer companies do this) or a bank loan. bank loans to pay the rent is not a good situation to be in. If you cant afford to pay for your apartment downgrade. Thats what we have always been told about Dubai. Couldnt agree more. Our company doesnt pay our rent and we do not get a bank loan nor do we have a great salary. We saved like crazy to be able to get a villa by living in a small apartment, we put away money each month for the big rent checks. I thought salary certificate was pretty much standard for anything here? Salary cert only really used for loans/CC and booze licence and sponsoring mother in law, friends (tourist visas) maids , kids, wife etc. Not to mention opening a bank account, buying a car, etc etc. Of course bank accounts and cars durrr I completely forgot about those as it was ages ago :-)
