Thanks Go online and register pay the fee then it is yours for life They give you several address around the world ( They tend to be Aramex head offices in said countries) People who reside in the UK wont use nor need one as they can order directly from online retailers and have them delivered to their UK home without the need of Aramex plus it isn't available for UK residents I use it to have items delivered to Dubai from UK online retailers . Just trying to work out if ifs worth it in the long run. ?? I use it mainly for the sales as with the shipping costs it sometimes works out the same as buying it in the UAE if not on sale. I am one of the sad ones that prices it here then checks online and compares costs ASOS deliver directly here, River Island does for a flat fee of AED50 as does New Look, Next Direct.ae is fab as you only have to order over AED150 and delivery is free and only takes 3 days! I also believe Victoria Secret deliver directly too Anything under a kilo is AED43, over a kilo AED70, then it obviously increases the heavier the item There is an import fee here if you order over USD1000 worth. Geordie Expat can advise on that as I think she has been stung for the import fees here

can somebody give me details on the trip to Lebanon Island please. Who has been there? How is the boat trip, how long and is it okay for people who sometimes get sea sick....I am planning with visitors, but not sure if ok, I went three weeks ago on a Saturday. Boat trip out okay, took about 20 mins, boat trip back it was getting dark, choppy as anything and a large Yacht passed us on the way in causing a huge swell so we got soaked. Everyone has to wear a lifejacket You cannot take any food or drinks in and they will check your bags and take it off you if you do There is a DJ playing very loud music all day, food and drink ( Bottle of Corona was AED45) was expensive. Pool was freezing cold, beach is manmade and very coarse and shelly, sea full of fish but a bit stagnant as no waves. DreamWorks massage place has a little chalet there but nothing else open Sunbeds were comfy but looked a bit old and faded ( They were wooden ones) Personally speaking I didn't rate it and will not go again.

I don't feel nervous or frightened. My ex Husband and I lived in NI briefly when the troubles were on and to be honest I wasn't nervous back then, sure I was vigiliant and checked under the car etc but got on with my daily life as you do.

I suffer with Roscea and dry skin and use the ultra calming Dermologica range There isn't anything non cosmetic that I have ever bought that can get rid of fine lines unfortunately

I have a lovely Nepalese housemaid ready to start with our family... she is on a visitors visa since her arrival here in Dubai on October 19th. I am currently waiting for my own visa to be processed so in the interim what should I do? 1. Is it possible to get her a further 30 day visit visa? if so how do I go about this? 2. Drive with her to Oman and get her an exit and re - entry visa? what documentation do I need to bring with me? Any advice greatly appreciated. I don't think Nepal is on the list for people to do visa runs to Oman She may have to exit to her home country and apply for another visit visa or wait in Nepal until you have processed her work visa

I used to be able to get hold of these really easily (the red box) but over the past year or so, its been getting more and more challenging........I've tried Spinneys, C4, Park 'n Shop, Geant, Co-op......pretty much everywhere but struggling I havent seen them here for ages and one of my friends yesterday was complaining that red bisto is getting harder to find. Hi! This is my first post here. I am a CELTA certified ESL trainer and moved to Dubai last week. Currently I am on a Visitor Visa and once my husband's employment visa is sorted -which shouldn't take more than a month, I will be under his visa. I have received two Freelancing offers from two different educational institutions and they are aware of my visa status. I wanted to know if I could accept both offers? Since my utilization in both organizations will only be twice a week each. legally they need to provide you with an employment visa or a labor card if on Husbands visa It is illegal to work on a visit visa. The company should know this. Personally i would never work for a firm that didnt do this as one they are breaking the law and two if they chose not to pay you you dont have any grounds to complain as what you are doing is wrong also

I hate to put a downer on this, but have you budgeted for paying deposits on things. You need a fairly large amount of cash up front apart from the rental. Deposit to the landlord, agency fees if you use one to find your place, DEWA deposit, I think around 2k for a villa. I'm only mentioning this as we came out with nothing and ended up with minus nothing once we had paid out deposits. Also the little things like buying water etc all add up. Its 2k DEWA deposit for an apartment I think a villa is now 4K! agh Thanks for that SL. It shows that after a while you just become conditioned to forking out cash for things ;) I only found out when I moved this year, apparently they raised it due to people not paying their bills

Hi! Has anyone had tear trough fillers done in Dubai? Or can you recommend a clinic specializing in fillers? I would probably rather have it done in my homecountry but it would just be easier to have a clinic nearby if I need to go back or want something else done :) Finding a seriuos looking place through google seems to be a mission impossible :lol: I looked at having this done but my botox and filler guy here refused to do it. He said as the area is so delicate and filler is quite thick you can make the area look bulbously. A friend had it done in the UK and the lumps were very visible. If you have high cheek bones do not do it as it can make the area worse. Once I have all 3 fat pockets under my eyes ( Give it another ten years) I am going for Blephorasty. My friend had it done in Brussels and it looks great plus it will stay for life Be very careful if you decide to go ahead with it

DEWA costs. We have a 3 bed villa, two adults and four pets so in the summer the AC is on around 26/27 all day and night and our maximum bill was GBP386, which included the housing fee. I definitely wouldn't say it was cheaper here than in the UK. Thanks Geordie Which area are you in? How much approx is housing fee ? Housing fee is 5% of your annual rent, paid monthly and included in your DEWA bill

Thanks Lovingthesun We have a very long email we are drafting right now so will add the visas and the associated medical a to it- thanks! The idea of uprooting with the kids is probably the biggest factor right now- always lived very near my parents on England so massive family pull here in the Uk. I guess sometimes we have to make such decisions to progress. I emailed the Dubai British school trey don't seem to have any places at the moment. Again difficult to say a confirmed date of start before we officially accept any job. I have heard utilities are generally cheaper than the Uk - can anyone give a ball park for electricity and gas per month in household where we do ALOT of washing and likelihood of a lot of AC during the hotter months ! Also is it normal for companies to not give a mobile phone ? My husband has always had one with his jobs but this one they haven't said its part of the package! Strange when they are offering so many other benefits ! Also- car wise do people have any experience with specific leasing companies who we can contact from here ? I wouldn't say utilities are cheap here and internet/ TV package are very expensive For example a 2 bed apartment, 3 people living in the house ( 2 adults work so no aircon on in the day) monthly electricity/water/aircon/district cooling costs GBP360 per month. If you find a villa with district cooling that is paid for then you can knock a huge chunk off the bill Expect to pay considerably more in the Summer months due to the air con being on all day Internet 12MBPS plus landline and lowest level TV package costs me around GBP60 pounds per month Food is slightly more expensive if you shop in Spinneys or Waitrose. Wine/Beer in the bars costs more. Expect to pay 6-7 pounds a pint Most of the international car leasing places are here but expect to pay anything from AED1500 for a Toyata Yaris up to AED2000 per month for a jeep Petrol compared to the UK is dirt cheap

There are in fact many down to earth and humble people living here. Also there are many art galleries, and art functions such as downtown design, and al serkal avenue. Problem being that usually 500 000 dhs a year villas ON the water, drivers, live out maids, etc and humble people don't usually go together... As other people suggested, why not a smaller villa 10-15 min walk from the beach? Jumierah 1-3 are all reasonably close to the metro, downtown, city walk, hotel beach clubs, great restaurants etc. Swimming: Of course you can go swimming in the sea here, infact you don't need a hotel membership for that. You can head down to Kite beach, al mamzar, JBR beach, burj al arab beach in jumeirah, or jumeirah 3 beach. You could even drive out to jebal ali and swim in the water where there is no one around. UAE is known for its beaches, and the ability to swim in the sea almost all year round. Look up saadiyat beach club in abu dhabi. 45min-1hr drive away and AMAZING. Liquor licence: Its super easy to get a alcohol licence, as long as you are not Muslim and as long as you have a residency visa. visa: You can work on a husband visa without switching to the companies visa. He just has to sign a no objection letter. This is also great because it gives you the ability to change jobs more easily if your not happy somewhere. Cohabitation: Many couples live together even though its not allowed, and many gay people live here as well. its just something they do and don't discuss with anyone. Simple as that. Gardening: You can grow many fruits and veggies here that you can not in colder climates. Indoors you can grow all herbs (lavender, basil, mint, thyne, oragano, chives etc). Outdoors you can grow dates, mango, papayas, bananas, coconuts, oranges, limes, lemons, etc. Jasmine also grows really well here. Metro/ driving: The metro is very useful in the winter for all sorts of people. I don't see it as a degrading thing, but its not used by many in the summer because of the heat. If your not comfy driving here for the first while, hire a taxi.. they are extremely inexpensive. There is also uber, which is a taxi service in a nice black lexus with a polite driver who knows your name when you get in. Maids: Many people have live in maids, many have live out maids, many have a maid 2hrs 2x a week, many also clean their own house!! socializing: your husband will meet people at work, who you will probably go to dinner with etc. You will make friends through coffee meetups etc and will probably book adventures such as hot air ballooning, safari, etc with them, just as you would in UK. Uae is a different country, not a different planet. Most thing work the same here. Some things you need to yell at people to get done (Eg, anything bank or phone related), but everything works pretty much the same... Like Like Like I am at the public beaches most weekends. We pack a picnic to save on high food costs, every now and then we treat ourselves to the beach clubs I don't nor have ever had a maid only someone to do the ironing as I am rubbish at it I use the Metro all the time more and more Europeans are using it now. I have met so many great people from all over the world, I have learnt so many different things socializing with different nationalities and cultures whereas in the UK I only knew people from my home city ( Boring I know) There are so many things to do here, concerts, sporting events, literature festival, flea markets. Attending these events are easy as they are so close to home and you may end up getting freebies through people you meet. Dubai is what you make it. :-)

Hi ladies, just looking for a bit of your worldly advice? We've had ongoing AC issues in the house since the Summer.... Early last week the kids' bedrooms AC just stopped functioning and we called the LLs maintenenace team straightaway to fix an appointment for them to come out urgently...only showed up yesterday evening to say 'yes, there is a problem and we will get back to you' !!! Haven't heard anything since and it's 28 degrees C in their rooms!!! What can we do? Doubt there is any law that protects us? Thank you Erm there isn't really a law to protect you. We have the Rent Committee that handle disputes between LL and tenants but you would have to open a case and pay a fee of 3% of annual rent. I would keep calling the maintenance team till they come back and fix it

No wind up, honestly. We are totally unfamiliar with UEA money and what it means in real terms. We live OK in UK and have a lovely lifestyle in rural area but defo not flashy. We just want to get a feel for how good a package it is and whether worth leaving the cat for a sunnier climate. How much would a car cost to buy and run? Hubby may have a driver for work but we are not sure transport allowance will run to a personal one? Petrol is dirt cheap Hiring a car depends on what type you want anything from 1800AED a month upwards. I prefer to drive myself around as don't trust other drivers! I have saved a fortune here and my housing allowance isn't close to what you are being offered Some people want to live in a huge villa which costs a fortune, buy nothing but designer, do their weekly shop at Waitrose, go to champagne brunches every Friday hence the reason they may not save a lot. I live a very good life and manage to save too If the housing is paid in cash then you can get a smaller place in a nice area and save the rest Housing is the biggest expense here and if you are getting it paid with a decent monthly basic then you are laughing

Thank you ladies, you all make it sound so appealing and perfect -what is the downside? I think the employer sorts all the visa stuff and I don't think we'd use someone off the internet for anything financial or legal. Sorry, I was not suggesting I would not go to a church with Indians or Phillipino people but rather I would prefer a more mixed environment, if there were that option. At our current church the different communities tend (understandably, since they speak the same language and have a shared culture) to keep to themselves and I am thinking a church with a higher proportion of western expats might feel less lonely. So I have seen a few nice looking villas on Palm Jumeirah and a couple that stretch budget but are possible at Umm Sequimm. The Palm ones are front on to beach (seem to have steps directly down and private beach but the Umm Sequimm ones are sort of side ways on. Are these nice areas? What is difference in travel times to the main malls and Sheik whatsit road? Umm Suqeim has a lot of roadworks ( Near Safa park) due to the canal works and the malls. They will always be busy during rush hour My friend lives on the Palm and has a beach facing villa but has had problems with rising water levels ( The water in the past has risen up to the steps) and stagnant sea water. plus they don't have a lot of privacy as the villas are quite close together. Both areas are close to the malls ( Mall of Emirates and Dubai Mall)

Depending on the area it will either be DU or Etisilat then you need BEIN sports as an extra for football and motorsports If you are subscribing to the basic package for DU or Etisilat then BEIN sports is an extra AED80 per month on top Commentary is only in English for the football on two channels so if your DH match is on another channel the commentary may be in Arabic

We have some friends coming into town and we wanted to take them to a really nice Friday brunch that is impressive similar to Al Qasr or Westin, a smaller scale is fine but we are looking to pay between 400 and 500dhs and preferably with an outside area as well as kids play area. They have been to Jumeirah Zabeel Saray on their last visit so that is out. Any suggestions? Mina Salam has a BOGOF in the Entertainer ( Cost will be 225PP) I have a spare one due to expire at the end of the year you can have. I don't know if there is much for kids but the food/view is amazing and it isn't raucous Beachcombers is cheap at the Jumeriah Beach Hotel, there is stuff for kids but the food isn't as fanciful as the others you have been too

Does anyone know where I can find a company that could make seat cushions for two wooden chairs and a bench we recently bought? The benches have very nice Arabic carving to then so a nice colourful arabic fabric over foam would be ideal. I got my outdoor cushion covers made at a place in Dragonmart. The shop was right at the end of where all the outdoor furniture is sold. I already had the foam. I paid around 400-500 for 10 covers two years ago.

I think LL and tenants have now got wise to the rental laws and follow the rent calculator. It can be a better system for many tenants as prior to this some LL did want they wanted and didn't follow this rule or the rental laws. I think the only way around this is to negotiate the rent directly with them for less cheques. Any changes to rental contract have to be done 90 days before so if you want to haggle or not renew the contract for a further year then you need to do it soon ( 90 days before not 60 ) The two month ( 60 day penalty)is for when you are say in a middle of a contract and want to move, in doing so we forfeit 60 days rent. The LL has probably looked at the rent calculator and realized that they can ask more money and as their property in an investment they probably think the more money the better.

It's my first year in Dubai. Does anyone know if anywhere (like hotels etc) celebrates this night? I know it is probably a no but it was such a tradition with my family back at home I would love to carry it on here. I cannot really host celebrations at my own apartment!
