We live on the Marina side and all tenants pay housing fee, think of it like a tax. I think everyone pays it now regardless of where we live Lots of people got away with it for years however 3 years ago when I went to register my DEWA I left the rent cost part blank and the lady asked me how much it was They did say that they would charge everyone eventually We've been paying since we first stepped foot on Dubai soil. Unlucky, I guess. I only got away with it for 2 years out of 8

Does anyone know where I can buy some artificial plants and flowers for cheap? I want to put them in my garden. I don't want any real ones as we don't have a Gardner and I'm not looking for any plants that I would need to up keep. Thanks :) I had artificial ones on the balcony and got them from home centre Mine have to be watered regularly as they get dirty however if you are in a villa sheltered from the road etc I doubt they will get too dirty

In my company we have to provide proof of paying teh housing fee; otherwise we get an annual charge out of our salary. Huh? What it got to do with them? I understand that those on visas not issued by MoL, all have to do this :) Not true at all When i worked in a bank - not on MoL visas - we also had to do this :) i also mean not on Free zone visa.... edited by IzzyOnTheSeat on 29/10/2014 I have come across this and it is a select company thing :-)

We have a charge of 363AED on top of our electricity & water charge in our Dewa bill. Does anyone know what this housing fee is & is it right that, we as tenants, are charged this fee? Thanks. it should be 5% of your annual rent divided by 12 We all pay it :-(

Real estate agency informed us of rent increase only 10 days prior to expiry of contract. We refused to pay the increase and offered to renew on same rent, however manager insisted on 10% increase. Since that last communication, we have not heard anything from them. Its already 20 days after expiry, I was wondering if there will be any issue for us if we are not pursuing it to Rent committee??? I didn't want to intimate the case, because I don't want to pay all these expenses and go through hassle. Just as I read in some threads here, I was waiting for real estate to intimate case, in case they don't agree to renew. What should I do? Wait for them? Or is it must for us to initiate the case? Btw, we have all communication with manager on the same, if we need to prove that we didn't cause the delay. Go down to said agency with all your cheques written out. Print out a copy of the law pertaining to the 90 day change role and demand your contract. Failing that take cheques and last contract to the rent committee and they should issue you a with a new one. Has your previous contract been registered with Ejari?

Go with Bisto Best gravy granules, its way easier than the normal granules. You just add hot water and the gravy tastes a lot lot better. I don't think I have ever seen them here What colour pot are they in? :-)

If it is down to your pill then I doubt any face wash will help at all. With regards to your pill did you check the ingredients from your old one versus your new one as many are the same just manufactured by different companies ? No I didn't but I'll check when I go back to UK this December...I'm not holding out much hope though, because whereas my local Doctors in UK had a selection of like, 20 different pills, the UAE seemingly only has about 5 different options. I was thinking about getting an implant when I go back but then if it doesn't work out, I'll have to wait 4 months to get it taken out. Plus implants freak me out!! What pill were you on?

Can i tell you what would happen if I made it myself: 1) spend hours in 3 different supermarkets getting the correct ingredients 2) get flustered as don't have the correct measuring apparatus 3) spend time converting ml to ounces and get it wrong 4) disproportionately mix ingredients together 5) jelly won't set and will be globby mess 6) then spend the same amount time trawling supermarkets to get pre mixed jelly sachets should have got in first place 7) still screw up the measuring jug/ratio/water 8) post on EW looking for somewhere that sells pre-made jelly :D That made me chuckle

I have only ever seen the coloured/flavoured kind Tip into a bowl, add cold and hot water, pop in fridge. It isn't that messy for kids to make and this is from a very clumsy individual to whom wearing white and food results in it all over me! Oh it's not the mess SL, it's the reaction to that sort of food colouring - it is not a pleasant scenario! Oh I see, I never thought of that. perhaps Izzys advice on homemade is the best solution. get the kids to make it whilst you supervise ha

Thanks for the advice, everyone. Truth is, it might be hormonal as when I was on the pill back in the UK, I didn't have these spots. Then when I came here and had to go on a different pill as they don't have my one, that's when the spots started. They were a lot lot worse back then and got so bad that I had to come off that pill completely (and use a different contraceptive method) but my skin still hasn't gone back to normal. So I guess a trip to a dermatologist is the right decision. I'm just worried they'll do the same and make me buy a product that they're sponsored by or something. My dentist does that. He writes down what toothpaste and mouthwash he recommends, using a pen that's got the logo of this "recommended" brand printed all over it, onto a pad of paper that's also got the logo of this "recommended" brand printed all over it. Real subtle.... If it is down to your pill then I doubt any face wash will help at all. With regards to your pill did you check the ingredients from your old one versus your new one as many are the same just manufactured by different companies ?

Stacey - who has her blog is about the only person I trust about Make Up and products, all tried tested and written about - http://www.expatmakeupaddict.com/ I hate the women in these shops, I now run in, make a beeline for my product, grab it and run to the till - NO EYE CONTACT seems to work! I am quite curt when I see them lurking ready to pounce I have visions of you running in supermarket sweep style and running out Polly

Genuinely interested.. Do peopel really use these? Don you just add some flour to pan juices and cook out? I use it when I am being lazy Izzy. For stews etc I use Oxo as it is just add to water There was a time when you couldn't get red oxos here and the other makes don't taste the same DO people really use those as well? i make my own chicken stock; then reduce it down and freeze in chunks so that i just add one and some water. Not the best person to ask on this stuff - i make my own ketchup ! Your username should be Mrs Beeton haha I cant be bothered to make my own stock etc as I don't eat a lot of meat but when I do and want gravy its easier for me to use Bisto

That's disappointing : ( So who can I go to for advice on which face wash to buy? I'd rather receive an opinion from someone who has used and perhaps even had success with one than pay AED 300 for a 15 minute appointment with a specialist who will only recommend their clinics "preferred" brand, anyway. My problem is cheek spots. I don't get spots anywhere else on my face, just cheeks. And they're not whiteheads, they're sore red things that are under my skin and that I can't pop. I've spent a fortune on all sorts of lotions and potions from BioDerma, Skin Ceuticals, La Roche Posay, Proactiv...and whilst they've helped, my skin has never cleared up completely, but perhaps it's because the face wash I use has always just been some random one I've got from the supermarket. Maybe I should buy a face wash from one of these brands...even if they are all AED 100+. Has anyone had any experience with a face wash from any of these brands? I use Dermologica but was told recently by a beautician that due to my skin tone I was using the wrong one in the range. I am going to have facial with said company as apparently she has lots of acne and roscea clients who have suffered in the past and the range ( Ultra calming) helps this sort of skin. Unlike other countries I don't think the staff are given any real product training therefore I don't trust their advice. I would rather go online and check tutorials and reviews myself beauticians at some of the good salons may be able to help you chose the right product but it will be limited compared to the different ranges at the shops. Have a look online that may help

Just wondered if I should trust their opinion on what to buy as often I can't tell if they're giving me genuine advice on what to buy, or that morning they've been told to up-sell a certain brand/product. Also the girls by the makeup in the Supermarkets and Boots and stuff, are they on commission? They don't half try and sell! My husband hates this fact but I'm one of those people who just like to browse at the makeup, but as soon as I pick anything up (despite repeatedly having already said "I'm just looking") the girl/s will say "Oh if you like that then you should get this" *drags me over to another brand* "...and how about some mascara? Or some blush?" I had the pharmacy thing happen to me today whereby she recommended a brand to me and I bought it, but now wondering if it's REALLY good for me and my problem, or like I say, she was just told to up-sell that brand as I was browsing a different brand when she caught me. It's bloomin' expensive stuff so I want to be sure it's right for my skin before I open it. edited by poshbird87 on 27/10/2014 I wouldn't trust any of them as far as I could throw them! Are they actually trained in the products they sell. I wanted a specific YSL mascara which they didn't have and she tried to sell me a completely different brand which was okay but not the colour I wanted. I kept asking for dark brown and she kept producing black. I asked what other ones she had in brown and she said she didn't know. How can they be employed and not know their products. Needless to say I buy online or at home now.

To obtain this license, you will need a business license. To obtain a business license, you will need to rent a business location appropriate for preparing the food. From home is not an option. But how do some people bake/cook from their house? Is that illegal? I imagine it is as the health people cant inspect peoples homes as they would a business premises

Thanks for that. It doesn't let you actually chose your seats though still. You can only select the banding so you don't actually know if your seat is central, left, right of stage etc or how many seats in front or behind!? I spoke with Kate at Yas and she said you cannot book your seat It is first come first served

Which is a cheap router to buy from C4 that will serve the purpose. SarahLou mentioned Belkin.. Beebers what happens if you have wifi on, but mobile data off, will the messages not get through then? If you are in a WIFI area and have the WIFI switched on your will get all your messages If you are in work etc with no WIFI you need to mobile data switched on to get your messages I hope this makes sense. Although I have WIFI at home (Primarily to download TV stuff etc) I have a mobile data plan with my phone for when I am out of a WIFI area
