Why not try the Greens/Views Low level buildings, beautiful pools, area is clean with trees and a lake Close to metro stop/shops/restaurants/MOE. Lots of families around too It is quieter than JLT and The Marina and very easy to get out of in the morning/evening

@Pollydxb, the public transport here takes you all over Dubai But it's often inconvenient, and much slower than driving yourself. DH tried using public transport to get to work, and the journey that normally takes him 15 minutes by car ended up taking over an hour by a mixture of bus, metro and walking - and of course, waiting for buses and walking are both out during the summer, at least if DH doesn't want to arrive at work needing a shower and a complete change of clothes. The metro is great if you live right next to a metro station *and* your destination is very close to one as well. But for most people, those criteria don't apply. I agree Madge_Gustard. DH tried it a couple of times with me dropping him off at Nakheel metro and then going into Emirates Towers. It made a long day so much longer and more stressful than a 20/30 minute car journey. PS SZR was almost a dream to drive down this morning, I guess a lot of people have taken the day off ! The roads were a breeze today especially by Dnata

Was chatting to friends today about having served Sean Connery a double Malt Macallan whiskey :D <swoon> What's your claim to fame, who have you met and when/where/how? I met David Beckham, Paul Ince and others at Chester Races. They had a chat with my mates son ( Massive Man U fan) on the phone and he wouldn't believe it was them.

Most companies keep your labor card and give you your passport back. I wouldn't let anyone keep mine. What happens if there is an emergency over the weekend or on a day off and you cant get access to it. As the other posters say it is illegal to do this ( even if companies do)

The Ivy is a great fun experience. We were there on Friday and have booked to go again in two weeks time. The food is good but to be honest the atmosphere and staff are what really makes it. The jazz band is fun and creates are very good vibe. On our visit it was a completely mixed age group and balance of groups of friends , couples and extended families. No children though. It just seemed as though everyone was having fun but there was no excess . The staff were the right balance of relaxed and attentive. Sounds like our sort of brunch then. No kids :) I believe they do happy hour from 5-8 also which is supposed to be good

It's done for all botox procedures... I do my botox and fillers regularly; those dots are put by doctors to have it done accurately.. That's the very first time a DR here or in the UK has ever done that and ive been doing both for 3 years :-) I looked as if I had the measles haha

Zellweger even in her prime was always kinda plain, guess that's why she got the Bridget Jones gig. Now she just looks like an alien stuffed with pillow filler, too much, too soon, bad work. Monica Bellucci is over 40, but she manages to look uber glam, without looking like she did ten rounds with a load of silicone. All Kudos to her and Salma Hayek. Don't forget Sofia Vegara Latino and Italian ladies usually age very well Renee looks awful, far too much filler and botox

Hi! I am looking for an experienced plastic surgeon to do lower eye lid surgery. has any one of you done this in Dubai? Or know of a doctor who is excellent at doing this? Dr Jafar Khan for Blephorasty. This one of his specialities and I will eventually have this done with him. On his website you can see the animated procedure. It is very clever I have used him for other procedures and was very happy http://www.aesthetics.ae/our-experts/dr-jaffer-khan https://player.understand.com/Aesthetics.ae/en/4d07e4b8-dfd0-4bf2-bea8-3aaf1af34237/61204aa0-b564-4cae-9966-6f25fcc7d1e7?Page=Presentation&Account=Aesthetics.ae&PresentationID=a755bdd7-26e0-4dc4-9e58-ce5cdd9a988b&CatalogID=4d07e4b8-dfd0-4bf2-bea8-3aaf1af34237

Thanks Celesti I was about to write the same thing It is very difficult for us and I wish I could find every candidate as role, however clients are very specific now and rarely if ever accept unsolicited CVs from candidates, 2009 changed everything and as clients are paying a recruitment fee they want the candidate to tick every single box. If a candidate contacts me by phone or email I will always respond even if I am unable to help Gulf Talent and LinkedIn is a huge tool that we use, company career sites are very popular now as is the old networking way

Hello I just moved to Dubai with my husband who has just started working over here (I am on a visit visa as hoping to find my own job) So far it's been great - but my plan of magically finding a job, a flat and some friends whilst sitting about by the hotel pool hasn't worked so having to get more proactive... This website and forum has been really helpful and informative - and I was hoping someone could help me with some advice and recommendations on the following: Job hunting: I've contacted a few recruitment agents who have just referred me back to looking up specific roles on there webpage. What I was really looking for was a consultant who could spare me a little time to have chat about the job market over here. I know competition is fierce but I have a transferable skill set so would like some advice of which industry and types/level of role to focus on. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good recruitment consultant? Flat hunting: we are on quite a modest budget (at least until I find a job) and looking for somewhere close to a metro station. What's the best approach for finding flats - looking on websites like dubizzle or going through an estate agent? Does anyone have any recommendations for a good letting agent? It's a bit overwhelming knowing where to start so any help or advice appreciated! Thanks :-) Have a look on justrentals.com. I have found apartments via lanlords ( no agency fees) via Dubizzle however they are a lot to wade through. Just make sure that if you go through an agency then are registered with RERA and have the LL passport and title deeds for you to look at Tecom is a relatively affordable area and close to the Metro

Recruitment agents work for clients. They will refer you to their website as all Consultants will advertise their roles there. It is very difficult for us to spend time with candidates especially if we do not have any suitable positions. In 2007-2008 clients would take unsolicited applications from candidates with transferable skills therefore it was much easier to source roles for candidates . Since 2009 they have stopped accepting these and we are only allowed to forward CVs of candidates who have exactly what they are looking for. With our workloads it is really difficult to meet/speak with candidates unless we have a suitable role for them as we are working on several other roles/attending client meetings and interviewing potential candidates. You have to keep at it. It can take several months however as you are in the country you have an advantage. Clients advertise a lot of their vacancies on their own sites now. Many use LinkedIn and Gulf Talent. Networking is key and you may find that you will find a role via someone you know Good Luck .

Sarahlou, I am sure they dont have that power but at least they could keep tabs on these individuals; thats 300 whose identities are openly public. They are all from such an array of countries, mainly Europe sadly and Eastern Europe; and under their photo they have "works for Islamic state". They are all over Youtube and Twitter also. Social media doesn't seem to want to block/ban these sorts of pages

yes I have taken my profile photo down and made just about everything private (no sleep doing all that through the night). Yes I shall report it to facebook right now. As for police, yes I need to get some strength up to make that call as you say Izzy for the sake of others they are trying to net. send your husband to the police station Will the Police do anything though? Will they have that power to seek out these individuals in another country?. I have seen some hideous stuff on FB and even when reported FB haven't done anything or taken the page down.

Anyway, they say it should be a fully paid holiday, so if I dont work on a Saturday doesnt that mean that I should get that holiday, either paid (over and above) or added to my leave bank? Or is this now treated like public sector workers if you dont usually work on a Saturday? So much simpler to have the same rules for everyone, same holidays for everyone and the same weekend for everyone (with the exception of some industries who have to work weekends (Friday and Saturday) of course!) I saw that too - and have no clue what it means? Anyone ..... Our wages cover the entire month even though we are off on Fri/sat Several firm do this therefore we are already getting paid ( If that makes sense) many industries aside from retail/hospitality work on a Saturday not all of the private sector get it off anymore

Manners cost nothing and I don't care if someone is having a bad day I couldn't walk into work and snap my bosses head off so why would I do it to a random person. Many people here do not display good manners and are rude regardless of their day. If people do not pull them up on it then they will continue to behave that way. Many people do feel entitled and tend to be embarrassed when spoken to. Perhaps it will teach them not to be so selfish.

I must be in a different Dubai because I don't see this, yes there are cultural differences with regards to queues etc but I avoid malls etc at super busy times so generally don't see this happening. (and also used the metro this morning during rush hour and it was a perfectly pleasant experience :) ) anyway. with regards to the Etisalat experience, this wouldn't help in this particular situation however in general with anything remotely establishment-y, greeting the person in arabic/having very very basic arabic enough to say [i'>hello, how are you, fine thanks[/i'> is enough to change your experience 100%. It's so much easier then to get a smile and a little bit of banter and having a little bit of small talk for example how busy/quiet it is in there today instead of just sitting in silence will really change your experience:) I don't want to generalise but find Arabic Males especially Emiratis extremely chivalrous be it in the government offices/RTA/Lifts/holding doors etc. years ago I was queuing in a ladies queue at the RTA and two guys were chatting with the lady behind the counter. One of the Male staff members went up to her and said something in Arabic which I can only interpret as why are you serving Males when this a Female line and there are Females waiting. I said thank you to him and he gave me a huge smile and a little bow :-)

I need to get a costume for my 2 year old DD for her nursery event. even though we don't celebrate Halloween i want my daughter to be part of the event because i know she will enjoy it, my dilemma is i really am not willing to pay 150 to 200 AED for a costume. any ideas where i can get something cheap in Abu Dhabi or if i can make something for her? White sheet with eye holes cut out as a ghost? Black leotard, footless tights etc for cat Witch costume should be easy too. Black abaya stitched short and a black witches hat which you may get from the supermarkets and you can get the broomsticks cheaply in the supermarkets, you can also paint her face green and blacken the teeth thanks a bunch Sarahlou these are awesome idea, and so cute. i'm sorry i am new to this, my first ever halloween hehe. i'm loving the cat and witch costume <3. and she loves cats so that's awesome. i think i can find cat ears hair bands somewhere. My Mum wasn't very creative with a needle and thread but she managed to make my rat costume ( Pied Piper) for a school play. Good Luck!
