Hi everyone, We arrived in Abu Dhabi 2 weeks ago now, until our residency arrives we will be here and looking for accommodation in Dubai. I haven't seen many areas there except the Marina near the fountain and the restaurants mainly. We have a nearly two year old daughter and I would ideally like a family friendly place like the Greens/ Views. Research has shown that the Greens are mainly older buildings whereas the views are newer built and better quality. I've also heard the marina has some nice family friendly areas. We need close access to SZR. Could anyone recommend good buildings in the marina area, and the views area? Im looking but all depends on what kind of quality they have, we would like really quality finishing to the flat and the budget is 225K. Many thanks Diana I live in The Views on one of the lower floors and have a huge balcony The old Greens best buildings are ; Al Sidir Al Nakeheel The Views Turia Mosela Tanaro Golf Tower and the other skyscraper ones I love living there but due to my LL selling and the rising costs of the buildings I have to move next year. It is ideal for all malls, supermarkets, salons, restaurants etc and easy to get in and out of during rush hour. After 10pm at night it is very quiet. Lots of families and is pet friendly

Hello ladies, Arrived in Dubai a month ago, our items arrived but unfortunately all the boxes with my clothes stayed behind. I do not feel like going out and splurging on clothes here as I will make a trip and collect my clothes in a few months. Meanwhile, I am a bit tired of wearing the same clothes... I don't think there is any charity shops here in Dubai or car boot selling/garage sales... If yes please let me know... If not, Is anyone a size 18/20/22 UK, US16/18, EU 46,48)? We could exchange clothes... I have a few summer dresses and more I would like to trade, some brand new pair of shoes too size 7/8UK, US 10/11 or Eu 41/42. If you are interested, let PM me. Thanks is it Tuesday 2nd for private?? Yes & it will be always as it is a specific date not a religious moon sightings :) Didn't they give the private sector Sunday off (1st) last year to make a long weekend rather than the 2nd? Wasn't it Sunday on the 2nd December in 2013? If my memory serves me correctly we were off on the Sunday

ladies,,can you name any more shops which sell spanx and belly bandits please? I ordered a chepo one from UK but I think it wont do much.. thanks Debenhams at most of the Malls K Lynn at MOE and other malls Spanx are the best ones ever!!! I have tried other makes but they blow all of the others out of the water

Hi Mums, So this is our situation: we are expecting our 2nd child (we had our first when we lived in the UK), but here my husbands company doesn't cover it on insurance. We have paid for the pregnancy package buy we are still debating the delivery: 1. If I go home to have the baby, is it likely I will be charged by the NHS? 2. If we have bAby here, we want it to have a british passport like me and our daughter- my husband is Australian! And I read that they take the fathers Citizenship here! Any help / guidance would be hugely appreciated. Thanks :-) The NHS don't have the means to charge people to deliver in the UK that is why so many people are doing it. They don't ask for proof of address or who your UK GP is. That's why it is costing them a fortune. I think they will eventually get around to doing it but at present they don't

Is this allowed? I have a family member who is very allergic to dogs and cats - gets itchy and swollen and has trouble breathing (asthmatic), so not sure what would happen if there was a dog/cat in the airline cabin with her on a long-haul flight! Dogs/cats do travel in the cabins but only on certain routes/airlines

Sarah Lou - stumbled across the movie Northern Soul last night on On Demand OSN, have you seen it, not sure it is even released in other countries yet, as IMDB advised - going to watch it this weekend!! Is it the one with Lisa Stansfield in as I believe it is released tomorrow? Looks good and will watch it at some point. :-)

I have used jadopado quiet a bit, they are reliable and handy. Plus for iphones/ipads they come with facetime. I bought my Ipad and Samsung Galaxy from them with no problems

Hello, my dad is looking to retire back in the UK after over 30 years as an expat. Can anyone suggest any nice areas? Ideally, he would like: - Beautiful countryside and wildlife - Somewhere outside of London commuter belt - Good access to airports. He'd like to buy a house with a bit of land so that he can have animals on it. Any ideas? I know it's a bit vague ;-)... I love the UK but my knowledge outside of London is a bit limited. Lol! TIA x I am from the North West. Cheshire is a beautiful county and close to both Manchester and Liverpool airport. I don't know if he prefers the south though. House prices are cheaper up North than in the South. I imagine you will get lots of responses on this as there are some beautiful parts of the UK :-)

It also appears that it is Thursday, on a Tuesday. I wish it were a parallel universe, in the other universe I would NOT have come home to a slow cooker which has dinner burned and stuck to the bottom of it, the house would NOT be smelling like an incinerator and I would not have to think up something else to cook for dinner, with no ingredients. *sigh* Takeaway :-)

We will occupy the property until early 2016 as we have just agreed to renew, however LL has since informed us she is selling with us in situ. Not necessarily bad news, but we do have a couple of concerns: She wants to send the agent to take internal photos and erect a sign board outside. We're not happy with ether of these - anyone know if we're obliged to agree? Can we be prescriptive about viewings? - eg, on Mon & Weds pm by prior arrangement only. We don't want constant interruptions to our private life. Can an agent enter a property without the tenant being there - are they allowed to have a key? We would be very unhappy with this, especially as we'll be away for 2 weeks at Christmas. How can we ensure that the current contract terms are honoured - eg, the maintenance package is kept in place? Any advice welcome. Many thanks . My LL is also selling with me in situ I have been very firm about when people can view so that it doesn't encroach on my personal time as I am only ever available on the weekends but having sat in for several hours and prospective buyers not turning up I have set aside a few hours on a Friday and Saturday morning by appointment only. I will only let them view if I am home. My LL didn't request sign boards so I cannot help you with that and I sent the agency/LL photos as I find the agencies tend to take random ones of the balcony etc No one can enter your property without you being there even your LL has to give notice to want to come round for inspections etc By law you don't have to let anyone in as it is your private space however I find it better to be a little flexible I hope this helps

I think its disgusting and seriously wonder why in other parts of the world people are able to flush paper down the toilet and not have problems? Not referring to sanitary towels obviously. Yay or nay? I'm a flusher, sorry. This is also a cultural thing because here, it would be assumed that you have done 98% of your washing with water so there shouldn't be anything on the toilet paper that goes in the trash... And some people clearly choose to shower their entire body, given the state some loos are left in. Vile. Tell me about it. How many people have almost fell in the toilets due to floor being soaked Its like a power shower!

Thanks Sarahlou, I've heard of SLaM one of the girls use to work at chill salon and she is the owner now. I wanted to try out a different hairdresser and the bonus is its in a mall which then I can burn 2 birds with one stone ..do bit of shopping :) Thank again! Ali used to do my hair and is very good. Lovely Irish lady

Botox for full face is usually around 1500-1800 and Dysport is one of the best I only use Restylane fillers however have them done in the UK at the fraction of the cost Dubai charges. Expect to pay over 2000 for fillers The cheaper offers dilute the botox down so it is very weak and doesn't work as well as the semi diluted ones. The only DRs I trust here are below Dr Rezai Dr Jafar Khan Dr Imran Tahir

Very sad. But the majority of residents don't actually use the beaches, do they? You don't see too many emirati women and children hanging out there do you? I'm using "residents" in the general sense of "people residing somewhere" (on the basis that the document in all our passports that allows us to live here is called a "Residence Permit"). Anything from 85-90% of residents of Dubai are not Emirati. That's an entirely different issue, of course. edited by Madge_Gustard on 13/10/2014 But unfortunately the people in charge are and I guess that's why they don't see the value in it. My husband says it reminds him of what happened in Brisbane a few years ago - ruined the beaches entirely with too much building. I believe the same happened in Thailand. Prime real estate spots

Should the west send ground troops? I know Obama thinks Iraq should sort it out themselves? I don't want our boys over there but is there another solution? Careem is excellent. Used them for airport trips when I was living in a very hard to find location & Dubai Taxi would likely mean a missed flight. Careem car usually arrived 30mins early, text messages saying car on its way & that it's arrived outside with car type & registration, no need for cash handover (except tip of course ;) ), very polite drivers & chilled water. Well worth the extra cash! Speaking of beaches, anyone know what they are doing to JBR beach? We were at Royal Meridien yesterday and half their beach plus adjoining beach in front of Ritz were blocked off and sand was being dredged and taken away by barge. suet you will be able to special order from either park and shop or Prime gourmet butcher. Marmite is available in all supermarkets as is the revolting ozzie alternative ;) We can get Dove's flour out here but it is more expensive than in the uk. I often bring things from Tesco's - no one has ever stopped me before, although it is usually spices, gelative leaves, puy lentils etc :) edited by IzzyOnTheSeat on 12/10/2014 I had a case full of food and my case was delayed in Amsterdam Izzy. I had to bin the lot as it was fresh stuff in cool bags :-(

I am coming from the Greens so think I know where it is I haven't been to the Springs for ages :-) In that case, it's the Springs nearest Greens end. So take the Springs exit then do a u-turn at the first lights and come back to take a right at the mosque, then first left into the car park and the tailors is right near the carpark entrance. :) Thank you so much
