It's the last Springs at Barsha end, if that's any help. I am coming from the Greens so think I know where it is I haven't been to the Springs for ages :-)

We are finally moving out to Dubai in 3 weeks!! Want to know if I can get certain food items in Dubai as we have been told we can't ship any food items whatsoever, even tinned items (is this true?) Marmite?(sad, I know!) Suet? (steak&kidney pie etc!!). I am a bit of a chef, hoping to do more of it in Dubai, private catering etc! Strong plain flour for bread, dried yeast? I'm sure there are lots of other things,but I'm hoping most is available! Looking forward to getting there and meeting some of you! Will be at the Marriott Executive Apartments for quite a while! Marmite yes Atora suet but it tends to be the veg one yeast I don't know and strong plain flour yes We have Waitrose here, Spinneys ( Lots of UK food) Lulus does Iceland brands, Choitrhams also does Tesco brand. There's one at the Lakes, next to the Lakes Club, but the one at Springs 7 closed down in April in preparation for the new mall construction (which needless to say still hasn't started ...) Depends who the visitor is but regardless I don't expect anyone to contribute to the shopping for home, including all drinks. For very close family we treat them to several meals out but for friends we tend to split the bills. I really don't mind treating guests but if you have several each year I feel its unfair to pick up the bill all of the time. I love seeing freinds and family but I cannot justify spending huge amounts everytime someone comes to stay. When I go home I stay in a hotel and hire my own car. I don't expect anyone to take me out and pay for my meals. I stay with friends and like me they buy groceries but I don't expect them to pay for me or vice versa. I don't have the kind of money to fund their trips and thankfully being able to stay with me here saves them a fortune so they are happy to pay their own way, get on the metro etc. I do pick them up and take them to the airport and anywhere else they want to go but that's it bar one brunch

me, the lasst weekend was naughty..... will start again tomorrow but once you get into it, its pretty easy. My favourite new discovery is cauli mash - almost fools you into thinking it's mashed potatoes. Tastes much better if cooked in water rather than milk. I love mashed cauli. Shame you cant add lots of butter though

what do you cover besides their accommodation of course! Do you pay for meals out, sightseeing etc?? Really interested to know what others do. If you dont pay for dinner for example, do you ask for the money straight out when the bill comes? I treat them once to a brunch and that is it. I don't expect them to pay for me when I stay with them It can be a costly experience otherwise and my visitors wouldn't let me pay for lots of things. :-)

Suddenly, maids are making demands on their working conditions, hours, benefits etc. Maids (and other workers) come from very poor circumstances otherwise they would not be working as maids/labourers abroad. Unfortunately, I think many western people have made the mistake of treating them as equals. Neither this society nor the society from which the maids/labourers come is an equal society and making them think that they are suddenly equal to their "Madames" is silly and not good for them or for us. It gives them false expectations and makes it very difficult for those of us who do not live a western lifestyle and treat our household help as just that - "maids", "drivers" etc. Wait a second, are you saying that because someone is poor they are not equal to you? Am I not equal to you because I drive a Toyota and not a Mercedes? I cannot believe you are being thumbed down Guinness

Actually Mary, it does not look like anyone will have the Sunday off unless they take it as leave. The lucky few working for the Government or Semi Goverment may get the Thursday or Sunday off but i would say that most Private companies will be working on Sunday. It hasn't been announced anywhere for us and that included the DIFC or MOL

Dear ladies, could you tell which private beach club you prefer? yesterday I bought a Time out Dubai that lists few clubs but the listing is not complete. I have a family coming on a visit and I'd like to spend a day on a beach with them. The pool access is not important as I have a private pool at home. I am really looking for a nice swim, beautiful calm beach and comfortable facilities. We will have 4 kids with us... And it should not cost 500 AED/person... we can do it Sun-Thur , so the price should be better... Is it true that it is better to chose a beach along the sea coast and not on the Palm as there the water is dirty and there are jelly fishes? Thanks in advance! I belive that this information can be useful for many of us... Jelly Fishes are dependant upon the weather and you get them all over not just on the palm When the weather is cool they appear but to be honest most staff at the beaches take them out of the water! my favourite is Jebel Ali Beach resort and spa as it is unspoilt and rarely busy Lots of cafes to get drinks etc <em>edited by sarahlou123 on 12/10/2014</em>

Ladies, I'm looking for suggestions on brunch venues which have nice outdoor seating areas. It's for a get together in a few weeks so wanting to take advantage of the cooler weather. I have done some research and there looks to be quite a few new brunches, or at least since the last time we did one. Has anyone tried the brunch at Anantara, Waldorf Astoria or Fairmont the Palm? Think if there is a day off it will likely be Sunday as I think it falls on the Saturday. I'm more worried about when the dry night will be as getting married that weekend. Oh no :( I hope it isn't dry for you then The venue seems to think it won't be but obviously didn't know when we booked it last year that it would be Islamic New Year and can't really change it now. Not sure if it matters if it's a private function or not. As it is a religious holiday then it will be dry 24 hours before but It all depends on what day it falls. My calendar says the 25th October. Fingers xd it wont be on your special day

According to my insurance all the advice given below is incorrect. If a person has a transferable license (i.e. if they moved here and could transfer their countries driving license to UAE license without having to do lessons and/or test) and they have had their home country driving license for longer than 1 year then they can drive your car. However, my insurance companies policy is that should they have an accident whilst driving your car they will charge 10% of the claim value in addition to your normal excess amount. It is a grey area as other multinational insurers have said no. My friend enquired for her Dad and was categorically told no whilst another insurer said yes if it was a family member? I would read the small print of insurance documents and heaven forbid they had an accident and weren't covered

Hello Does anyone know where you can get Newborn Passport Photos done - somewhere perhaps easy to get to or even better in the Marina area? I presume they have to have their eyes open and be looking directly at the camera for the photo? Many thanks :-) You have to lay them on the floor on a white sheet apparently I think most of the Kodak shops etc do this I don't know if there is one at the Marina Mall but I imagine Ibn Battuta will have one

It isn't law and I couldn't find anything in the labor law to support this. I feel it is just how employers do it unfortunately and they could switch it the other way if they wished to!

Hi I recently started a new job and had to sign my papers today for my new visa. In the labour contract the company made my basic salary only 5000, with accomodation, travel etc as extras. I think they have done this so that when I'm entitled to my end of service one day, it wouldn't cost them a lot of money. This 5000aed is nowhere near my total package and I was wondering if there is something I can do about it for them to make it higher, so I benefit from my end of service?? Any advice? The problem is they themselves broke the company policy that blood relatives are not allowed to work under the same company, but the MD insisted to let me join. TIA I have never ever heard that rule before, are you sure that is right. That said, I am totally unclear as to how this affects your situation? It's quite common in some companies - i worked for Odeon in London while i was at Uni and they had a policy of no relatives working together. I have seen no Husbands and Wives working together here

I can't help very much but I do know that a lot of the schools pay very poorly and only local contract so no medical, reduction on school fees etc. I knew someone who did get a job in a GEMS school on admissions and gets paid better but I don't think she gets any benefits. She does only get five weeks holiday a year and I believe works 7.30am till 4pm during term time but shorter days during school holidays. I have seen salaries between 4-6k for local hires on Husbands visa so no flights etc. They got a few extra weeks holidays compared to teaching staff but no discounts for children and they worked 7.30-4pm

Hi Sarah, I've just done it. You have to renew online with credit/debit card. You will need to print off and send the declaration page only together with your photos and passport. DHL have a special rate (I went to Ibn Battuta). Took 20 days in total. ETA:The declaration page will be generated when you have input your details and paid, and you can download and print it off. Hi Ladies, I have wooden slatted blinds over the apartment and the dust just sits on them everytime I wipe I just seem to move it around any ideas pls? I use one of the feather dusters to clean the slats and that seems to work I don't think windows and doors are fitted well here and that is why we get so much dust in the house!

You need to change your I Tunes account to a UK one ( UK address needed) If you already have I player etc on your tablet then you need to purchase a VPN Once you have this you can play I Player etc You cannot get Sky legally here, there are firms that say they can supply it but it is beemed from Spain and you need to get one of the special boxes etc however friends who have had it in the past said it is very hit and miss as our internet speed however high isn't the best here and it stops and starts continually or goes off all together I have an Apple TV which connected to my TV with a HDMI cable, I then mirror my Ipad to play I player etc through the TV, you can pick the Apple TV boxes up at any of the electronics retailers Failing that there is the website filmon but I find that buffers continually

Hi, I have been offered a position with a multinational engineering consulting company paying approximately 13,000 per month (all inclusive). I need advice on whether this is a manageable amount and approximately how much of this should be set aside for accommodation, transportation and food? I have a mechanical engineering degree with no experience. At this point, I do not want to restrict myself too much because of salary considerations. I'd rather get some solid experience at a good company working on high profile projects and I get all of this at the company that made the offer. However, I still want to be able to survive. Any comments or tips are more than welcome. Thanks. I cant help with Qatar sorry but the main bulk of your salary will go on accommodation. If it is anything like the UAE expect to pay at least 5-6000 per month on accommodation for a 1 bed apartment. It may be cheaper in a lower end area Food/toiletries/cleaning products around 1000 and if you want internet/tv another 300 and electricity and water is around 500 a month if you don't have to pay for district cooling. My understanding is that Qatar is more expensive than the UAE however I do not know personally.

I have seen an inordinate number of road accidents lately. Yesterday I saw one three car accident on Sheikh Zayed Road and today I saw a taxi rear-ended by a white land cruiser on Al Ain Road and a Gulf News van rear ended a Navigator who had then rear ended someone else. So as an experiment, please list accidents you see in the coming days. You don't have to witness the accident but do need to have seen the aftermath ... Since the Summer has ended I have seen at least one a day on SZR. They seem to be getting worse as each day goes by. They said that the rates of deaths by car accidents has risen since last year. There seems to be less Police presence on SZR in the mornings as they is usually one guy parked at the exit to the DNATA building as the traffic is horrible there in the morning. I havent seen one there for over a week.

Any ideas on the best way to get internet for just one month in an apartment? Through my phone contract? Thank you. I don't actually know. I know you can get it on your smart phone and then cancel it after 1 month but setting it up and cancelling it through a lead or router would cost more Have you been into Du or Etisilat as it is better to speak to them in person rather than over the phone.

Rosie you are 22 years old so I would say go for it! I moved here aged 34 and have stayed here for years. If it doesn't work out ( work or anyother wise) then you can always move somewhere else or go home. I wish I was 22 again ( LOL) As for living with your BF, yes it is illegal, yes people do it and some get caught others whereas others don't. Do what is best for you :-)

I don’t believe a word of this, a dh gives a strange woman money without letting his wife know and then tries to blackmail him and then she is drunk muslim? Really, whatever next could possibly come out. Why didn't he just come to you and tell you he was being blackmailed? Why did he start giving her money in the 1st place. I hope you get to the bottom of this :-) I know it sounds awful but texts and emails etc can be deleted, take it from someone who had a long relationship with a serial cheater. He made me feel that it was all in my head and he had a 2nd phone hidden which I knew nothing about. He thought he had been very careful but slipped up. I am sending you the strength to get through this as cheating is horrible
