Hi. My husband works in construction and I know that many jobs will never be advertised through these channels. You need to try researching as many of the international project management companies who operate in Qatar such as Atkins, Hill International etc. who will all have their own websites with positions advertised. Applying directly is always better and my understanding is that they are always searching for people with experience. Best of luck with the search. I need a senior Western QS and cant find one for love nor money!

Seem to think there was a thread about question one recently but I can't find it. 1) My car is in my DH's name. Can I go to the RTA and renew the registration without him? 2) Not urgent, but I will at some stage transfer it into my name. I presume he will need to be there for that? 3) Does anyone know what is the criteria regarding tyres and the test? Does the RTA base the replacement of them on age, or something else? TIA Cant help with number 2 sorry but your answer to number 1 is yes, you will need the registration card and both your Emirates ID ( Your car insurance should be on file with the RTA already If the car is over 3 years old then testing will be done. I think they test the brakes, tyres and lights. It isn't a huge test like a UK MOT. If it doesn't pass they will tell you what needs fixing

Hope someone knows have done some research and not getting anywhere wondered if anyone knew how to get UK soaps in particular Neighbours and Home and Away ( even though they are actually Australian ) which are on Channel 5 in the UK YouTube don't always have the episodes x I bought an Apple TV to work with my IPad and downloaded a VeePeeEN for 2.99 a month then have Iplayer, ITV player, Channel 4, Channel 5. You can do the same with a PC and a VeePeeEN. Buy a HDMI cable to go from PC to TV ( if it has a HDMI port)

When the weather gets better, which beaches do you like to go to? I would like to explore a few beaches to see what suits us best: Both Free or Reasonably priced. We have a 1-year old baby boy so if you have tips on beaches for little ones, that would be great. Many thanks Jumeriah Beach park You can rent umbrellas and sunbeds but they don't give you the pad for the sunbed so I bought one very cheaply from c4, you can take a picnic, the beach is clean and has lifeguards, security and a man that comes around selling ice lollies. It is very cheap for entrance too. JBR is okay but expensive to hire umbrellas and loungers plus it gets very busy and there are cigarette butts everywhere. Getting into the sea is a bit of a chore too as part of it is on a slight ledge.

Have you been to Essa at JLT. I love their Dermalogica facials. When you say cheap what price are you looking at? I'll look them up, thank you! Probably something AED 500 or lesser. I think they are cheaper than that. I have very red sensitive skin and my skin always looks lovely after going there :-)

I do think if the apartment is sold before your agreement ends 2015 then the new owner has to give you 12 months and there has to be a valid reason for he/she to ask you to vacate He/she moving in They are selling Major maintenance ( walls falling down etc) property is being demolished If the agency had thought about it they would of given you 12 months notice when they said it was up for sale, now your time in the property will increase. ;-) The new LL cannot just ask you to leave as they want to re-rent it to someone else at a higher price

Thanks so much Sarah! Do you know if "leek" exist here in Dubai as a vegetable? I love to make lots of soups and in Belgium I use onion and leek as a basis, so I ate it a lot, but here have not found it, I was in Carrefour, Spinneys, Waitrose, but not there. yes have seen them all over. Choitrhams as I don't shop in Waitrose or Spinneys. I have also bought them from Carrefour ( C4) too. Sometimes to need to ask the staff as they can be hidden :-)

Hi all Ive left all of my baking equipment in the UK and now that i have started baking again, instantly regret this decision. Where can i get cheap enough basics e.g seives, electric whisk, bowl, measuring cups...i know of tavola and Lakeland but if anyone knows of anywhere cheaper or knows somebody wanting to sell or give away please let me know. Thanks :) Try the big supermarkets. If it is anything like Dubai they are much cheaper than the shops you mentioned. I imagine you will pick up sieves, bowls, electric whisks etc there.

12 months notice has to be given by law regardless of whether it has been sold or the new tenant wants to move in. No need to stress as this is clearly laid down in the Dubai real estate laws.

We got an email this morning fro the Landlord's agent that they are in the process of selling the unit where we are in now. Our contract doesn't expire until april. What happens once is sold to a new landlord ? Maybe the new owners are buying for them to move in. How is this handled ? Should we start looking for another place asap ? Obviously they will have to give us money back since our contract is paid until April. We are by the springs area and I think we would like to stay close to this area since is more convenient for my hubby's work. I'm even more concern because I'm expecting and if we have to move I obviously don't want to wait till the last minute specially cause I'm less than 3 months away from due date. Please help if you have any experience with this. Thank you. Hello At your last contract renewal did your LL give you a 12 month notice to move? if not then you are entitled to stay put until the end of the current contract at the same price you are paying now. edited by sarahlou123 on 18/09/2014 edited by sarahlou123 on 18/09/2014

Buy some purple shampoo, this will help reduce the yellowy tones then get yourself an appointment with a decent hairdresser! Many hairdressers here don't know how to deal with blond hair. Salon Ink Essentials ( Al Wasl Road) Roots Barsha Ted Morgan Hairworks Slam ( Al Quoz) I had many disasters when I first came here due to uneducated over priced salons putting bleach on my hair when it only needs a high lift tint!!! Good Luck

Hello Try Healthbay Polyclinic. I cant advise on costs however they have a STD clinic and are really nice http://healthbayclinic.com/family-medicine.html Warts are linked to the HPV virus and unfortunately the HPV virus has no cure Destroying large areas of warts is very difficult and I am sorry to say a painful procedure. Most clinics will freeze or laser them Good Luck!

Good to know about dry Shampoo being available at Boots, I searched a lot in supermarkets and did not found it. Finally yesterday I bought Dry Shampoo at Sephora Dubai Mall (52 AED) and at Waitrose Dubai Mall (47 AED) so both much more expensive than in Belgium. I know what to tell relatives to bring when coming here :). A tip for not having the white powder showing on your hair: spray from a bit further, + I use hairdryer for a minute or so after having sprayed the dry shampoo, result is great! That is expensive, Batiste is only AED30 but AED18 at home :-) thanks I will look for a Boots store from now on :) The blond one is hard to find for some reason but other flavours and smells are always in stock Boots in nearly all the malls. Marina Mall, Ibn Battuta, MOE, Beach road etc

Alismum how is the traffic getting into the Marina ( Around 7ish) , near the Yacht Club end? Sarah I can only see the traffic near the Marina Mall bridge end and the roads near the Hilton. The traffic is flowing a bit better now since they opened couple of the new roads a few hour ago, but it remains to be seen what will happen in rush hour. It's still very messy and could be a few more days until all the roads down JBR/Marina are open. Thank you

I have seen Yasmin pills in a pharmacy just laying on a shelf next to tampons and did wonder what's the deal here - so no prescription required? No you don't however I do get my blood pressure checked every 6 months as the DR at home who prescribes them would do. Better to be safe with thrombosis scares attached to contraceptive pills :-)

I leave them in whilst I am getting ready You pop them into the pod ( It looks like a top hat) for 2 seconds then put them in your hair If like mine your hair is quite fine and slippery when washed you can buy the clips to hold them in place. I bought my pod and rollers from Salon Ink years ago and the clips from Essentials at Al Wasl. Personally I find the old school rollers ( My Mum had these in the 80's) the best to wave/curl and keep in place http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/390728078166

Hello! I am wondering if anyone can help me. I have tried asking people and going through my IPad to no avail. Here goes.... I have three IPads. I got a free app on one where you have to purchase characters once you are inside the game. I have purchased several. On my second IPad, one day all these paid for characters just appeared and I don't know what I did to make that happen. On my third IPad, I can't get the paid for characters to appear. I have already tried ICloud. Does anyone know how I can make the characters I paid for available on the third IPad? edited by AnonDubai on 15/09/2014 I know how to sync all apps across the 3 ipads but no clue about the game sorry What is the game called? edited by sarahlou123 on 15/09/2014

If you are searching for the safe deposit lockers with the bank then it is available at ADCB's. In Dubai it is available at 'Al Riggah Road Branch' and 'Al Karama Branch'. Lockers of various sizes are offered on a short or long term basis, at competitive rental rates. The lockers can only be opened by using your key in combination with the bank master key, ensuring total security for your valuables. I’d recommend checking with bank for more details. Do you work for ADCB ;-)

Hi ladies! I've been in Dubai for a week, staying in Dubai Marina for now. I am struggling to find a supermarket that has decent enough parking that I can use, maybe I'm not looking very hard. Not keen on using the shops in the malls as parking there seems to be difficult! Tried Spinneys in Motor City yesterday and it was a nightmare I drove in circles for ages! Please give me your pearls of wisdom! We've found a villa in Arabian Ranches so near there would be even better as I can keep using it when we move! Thanks :) I go to C4 on a Friday morning at 10am when the Mall of Emirates car park is dead Spinneys on Al Wasl and Jumeriah Beach Road is also quiet in the morning They are both big supermarkets. Waitrose at Marina Mall too edited by sarahlou123 on 15/09/2014

u do need car insurance for a visa run, as you are technically driving into oman. at the border they sometimes ask for it and if you dont you will not be able to proceed, so then waste of time and money! At the Hatta point of entry, really? I remember doing one years ago and you had to stop at a little booth en route to get the insurance to cross the border. It was years ago and now my car insurance has it included

Hi all, I'm looking for some suggestions/recommendations on where to look. We will probably downsize from our 3 bed to a simple one bed - due to rent prices, and the fact its only me & hubby (and two cats, one dog). I've been considering The Greens or Old Town, as they both are quite 'in the heart' of things, and have good transport and shopping facilities. Does anyone have any personal views or experience with either of these? (In the Greens I'd be looking at the one beds with a little courtyard). Or any suggestions for other areas to consider? I'm really keen to get a terrace/courtyard/balcony, big enough for two small sofa's and a BBQ (we have a really large terrace just now, and I have become very attached to some of the furniture!) I work near DXB International - at the moment hubby is unemployed, but will probably end up either overseas or AUH. Our budget is up to 100k. The balconies/courtyards in the Greens/Views are huge. In fact mine is far too big and it has a 3 seater sofa, 2 chairs, table, 2 huge storage chests and there is still space for lots more. Be advised you are not allowed to BBQ in any of the Greens/Views apartments regardless of whether you are in a courtyard or terrace apartment and I imagine Dowtown is the same as they are all Emaar properties
