Thanks I was thinking Ronnie Barker !!!! That would be great, can I get it up over the weekend some time or are you ever in DIFC itself? Not really, what time do you start work? Over the weekend also is fine if you pass the Greens edited by sarahlou123 on 24/06/2014

Which autobiographies did you recommend a while ago please? I'm just about finished John Bishop's, read all of Paul O'Grady's and even Sarah Millican's. I'm sure there was at least one more, but I can't remember whose? David Jason I have it if you want to borrow it

Does he need the 1000 for the attestation? what queue was he standing in for 7 hours? we have no idea Sarah, he kept saying he is short of money and needs it to attest certificates and he has been waiting in the queue since 9 am and doesnt want to lose his spot. i am feeling really worried. my DH said he will call me in 10 mins. still nothing from him and he's not answering his phone. Sounds expensive for attestation. Isn't it only 1200 to attest UK certificates and they have to go back to the UK

The way I read it she earns 20k and he earns the 5500 + commission. I thought the reason they said no was the lack of maids room. So if she can't leave the house because she had no maid, how is she still earning? edited by Geordie expat on 24/06/2014 maybe she doesn't work but she meant that every time she goes out she has to take them all with her - guessing they're all little... I read it as 5500 basic and the rest commission which takes it up to 20k a month She doesn't work and stays at home with the kids

I'm really baffled by what I am reading here. The argument is now that because in KSA some monster poured boiling water of his poor maid we can all just forget about humane treatment of domestic staff? What on earth is wrong with you BessTruman? Fams80, you can argue till you're blue in the face about what you ASSUME is acceptable for a maid, the LAW is the LAW and you have to follow it. There is no excuse for stuffing an adult woman in a room with 3 kids, because you are planning to just let her work and sleep. I hope no agency will send you a live in maid. Ever. These threads, wind up or not, really p**** me off. @Marroosh, great post! though falling on deaf ears I really wonder how people like that move through life, really... If I lived next door to someone who did this I would have no qualms reporting them to the authorities Totally agree Maroosh

What about her privacy? What about the fact that she needs a job and any job is better than no job and she wouldn't have any privacy if she went back to her home country anyways? And no one worried about my privacy when I was in the Army and bunked up with 49 other people. No one complained that my human rights were being violated ... you were bunked up with your equals, your colleagues, your comrades.... not sharing wiht your boss' children..... You probably didn't get yourself into debt to take this job which was sold to you with different terms, not in a position to complain or resign.... Aren't we missing the point here. It is Illegal and she has to have her own room Away from home, no support system and sleeping with the bosses kids. Awful!!

For me it is really confusing yet disturbing my husband is a real estate broker and we have lived in Dubai since 2008 on and off now again I came back just shifted and hit to know that my husbands salary on the contract is 5500 only and to sponser a maid that should be around 10000 I mean I am living in motor city paying a huge rent of two bed apartment and just because of this issue can't sponsor a maid second option is to hire from the agency now one agency I called Howdra cleaning they told me to fill up the form give them the documents and I went all the way to qusais to their office after that she told me that the monthly charges to hire a maid is 4000 dhms plus office fee etc ok after accepting all the terms and conditions she told me that u have two bed apartment there is no maids room hence we cannot give you the maid now should I give her my bedroom and start living in the lounge what should I do it's really disturbing that after giving high salaries still no one is ready to start these philipino and other staff lives in sharing 5 or 6 people in a room usually and over here they need a room no offence plz but I am a mother of 4 children and need to get settled ASAP but cannot move a second out from the home until find a maid I also have a baby of 4 months plz can anyone reply what can I do in order to find a legal way out to find a live In maid If your income is only 5500 how can you afford a maid ? And how can you have a live-in if you don't have room for her ? I believe she wants to put her in with the children

DH bought us a lovely new surround sound system yesterday, but it turns out that the wires that connect the speakers to the main unit are not quite as long as we'd like them to be. Any suggestions where I can buy this wire? Please don't suggest Dragon Mart as there is no chance of me going there! Sharaf C4 Most of the electrical shops in MOE etc will sell the connections

The room is big to fit my three kids as it's a bunk bed and then there is space left a separate bed for the maid and the baby sleeps with me in the room and there is a separate bathroom. Outside so two bed and three bathrooms I think it's not a big issue as she only need to sleep as she will be here to do work and I will pay her 4000 dhms per month I think this is ridiculous all people know that how these Indians and Pakistanis live in Dubai save a single penny I am spending alrEdy beyond my limits plz She's not an animal. As per UAE law the maid should have her own room. I am hoping this is a wind up Izzy

Thanks ladies......should probably also qualify to say he's not degree qualified (for the work he did in the UK it was never needed) but has 12 years UK rail industry experience, and held various industry certifications (most have lapsed but could easily be renewed) Lack of a degree is a bit of an issue here.....:-( I will get him to check on LinkedIn I will be honest and say most of the senior Western guys I work with and have placed here do not have a degree. It is rare Men of a certain age will have one as it wasn't the done thing I hope he finds something soon

rera calculator reads .. Rent is lower by 8% of the average rent for the type of unit you have chosen . According to the law governing change, your rating category is 10% So you are not entitled to any increase of rent. Then regardless of the 90 day notice period, you write back and simply state that according to the RERA rent calculator and the LAW, you are not entitled to any increase and therefore your contract shall be renewed under the current terms and conditions and at the current rate - end of story. If he has a problem with that, then HE must go to the rent committee. a property management company !!!! i hate hate dealing with them ...its a fight every single day !! they insists that they have a case as my neighbours are paying a lot higher than me , they moved in a few months after !! Tough T###y just because your neighbours pay more isn't your fault I imagine most people in apartments and villas pay different prices Let them open a case, the RC is very firm on this and the rent calculator is law. If this wasn't the case then why do they have this in place I would stand firm and only respond to them with the law which is on your side thanks ladies ... i am at my wits end !! as it is i have been given eviction notice to move out by 12th march 2015 as the building is being sold !! That old chestnut lol. I hope the crash happens again and then they will be begging people to stay!!

Better Homes (who i recommended to him!) actually tried to charge him 500AED to take hime round 3 properties! Seriously?? That cowboy should be reported to RERA. Isn't the commission meant to cover viewings? The real estate industry here needs a massive overhaul. I used them years ago and they were one of the better ones!! Obviously things have changed since then . In the last 4 years i have always gone straight to the LL and cut them out

We have a friend moving out here end of July and he's been trying, without success, to get some estate agents to show him round The marina/JLT area. They're apparently just not returning any of his emails or calls. Does anyone have a recommendation for estate agents with good coverage of those areas? Thanks Good ones are far and few between here Better Homes are okay however they may not arrange appointments until he is actually here in Dubai. Tell him to look on justrentals.com as there are many different estate agents on there

My hair has grown since i last gave up and gave it the chop but i really want to avoid that this time. I use to do the side plat all the time, will have to try it out again. Although it may not look that great as my hair has thinned out alot since then. Tieing it up seems to be the one, anyone managing to do it without hairspray to keep the smaller hair away? Where can i get my hands on dry shampoo here? Boots maybe? I've not seen it around Boots sell Batiste. I cant live without it They do a volume one but I don't think it is sold here. It is good for fine, thinning hair

Ever since i have moved here i have had trouble with my hair. I first had trouble with a lot of hair fall, it drove me insane, it then started getting oily very quickly. I have managed to tame it to some extent now but how do you ladies maintain it during the summer? I don't like to wash it too much, i think twice a week is enough. I have also stopped using hair straighteners and products in my hair, but with the heat and humidity my hair is constantly frizzy and wavy. Does anyone else have this problem? Whats the secret? I tie mine up. Plait, bun, ponytail etc. I only wash mine twice a week and use Batiste dry shampoo on the other days. I bought Tresemme Kerastraight cream from the UK and use it twice a week before straightening my hair. It tames the curly bits

i was wondering what consequences employer will bear if labour card was not obtained for an employee who is already working a few months for a company. Well if the MOL comes in - they will get a huge fine Would the OP get into trouble for working without a labor card? Or is it just the company that bears the responsibility only?

How would it work for schooling, medical, tax etc Several friends left last year and more will go this year They all lived here for over 10 years They all registered with local surgeries once they were home, applied to the local schools for their kids and were fine.
