All my friends back home always say how lucky I am and not having to work, that makes me feel even more terrible and guilty as I feel so low! How selfish am I! But the reality of not working is that the novelty doesn't last THAT long.. I don't have children and although say I would like to stay at home, I know I would be climbing the wills after a few weeks off

Cckl, thank you I felt like I was going mad and this is the first time I've actually owned up to how I feel and it's nice to know I'm not alone.. thanks for book suggestions, I have a feeling working will bring me back to normal (as long as leave works out) I know I can get work easily in my field, I think this is most of my problem, I just hope it would help! There's some good suggestions thanks! Especially the handbag challenge haha! I do drive now actually! It's true I do need to drive a while to get anywhere.. Pmd thanks you too, I know what you are saying I keep feeling wracked with guilt that I'm so down as if I am wasting my life not enjoying every minute of every day! What work did you do before here?

I've always believed that the best thing to do is invest in a really good moisturising night cream. Doesn't matter about the make just make sure you put plenty on overnight. Then make sure you thoroughly cleanse in the morning to remove all traces. That's all I've ever done for the last 30+ years and I certainly don't feel I have a lot of wrinkles. I do believe a lot of it is genetics, climate, diet etc My Grandma smoked like a chimney and always used soap, water and ponds cream She passed at 97 with hardly any wrinkles on her face I agree Mum was the same, although it was Dad who smoked like a chimney and unfortunately we just had to sit and bear it. It was the norm back though, thankfully things have changed now

RSA sent me this • Please note your vehicle registration card normally expires one month prior to the renewal of insurance. Therefore, we highly recommend you renew your policy one month in advance. I know you can register at a later date they just charge you 25AED for every month late you are I am just concerned about the alleged grace period from what they told me????? Confused :-(

My car is due for re-registration on 16th July. I arrive back in Dubai on 20th July. My insurance is valid until 16th August. Is there any grace period allowed? Thanks. I think as long as you don't have a crash ( If you insured but no registration that is) This is a grey area as RSA told me if I have an accident and am insured but not registered then they wouldn't pay out, other insurers may I would speak to your insurance company for verification

I was wishing to know if there are any good karate centers around the area where I can enroll my daughter? Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.. http://dubaikarate.com/ Near Safa Park If you Google Karate Dubai there are lots and lots of places

I have had 2 different types over the years Salon Ink used to do my old ones. They are quite pricey depending how many you have in though Easy to look after, I can get 4 months out of mine. No issues when they come out either My hair in 2006 was cropped, in 2009 bobbed, since 2013 has been bra strap length like yourself couldn't grow it past my shoulders that is the reason I used extensions I now only have 50 in for volume as my hair is naturally long I now use Great Lengths and cannot fault them, they are the best ones I have had and very cost effective.

I'm confused now. The 20% is as per the rent calculator, however I was under the impression and from previous opinions that the 90 day law is iron clad. The law states that the landlord cannot make any changes to the contract unless 90 days notice prior to the expiry of the contract is given. This was not given, so I don't really understand how this is a grey area. Has anybody successfully taken a LL to the Rental Committee in reference to the 90 day law or is it more often in reference to the increase amount? its a grey area as you have agreed to it in writing.... Izzy is correct speak to the RC in person

I wish they were all rounded up and booted out of the mall for dressing that way. This is the dumbest thread ever. Some people do not want to be subjected to the sight of a female with her bits hanging out, 13 or 30. The other day I saw a few grown women dressed in those tiny shorts, I was wondering how they would feel if someone confronted them. Most people just looked in disgust. I saw plenty of them in MOE tonight

If the shorts are the gym knickers ones that are in fashion then men will look at her. It's a natural thing for them to do. Would you want men leering at her? I certainly wouldn't want that. Also be prepared that you may be approached by local ladies and asked to cover up. This happened to a friend of mine in C4 and she was both mortified and apologetic. The lady was very nice when she spoke to her but it certainly got the message across. Women may wear them in Europe etc but we aren't in that country and we should respect the culture

what would u do if ur husband is calling his mother overseas every other day?is it normal?i find it really not mature .my friend whose husband is from an eastern country does that .I told her she has to tell his to grow up .I don't have an idea about eastern mentality but it seems so childish.he told her that because his mum is living in a country that is enduring war he has to be sure she is well .what the.....??? Are you serious......' His mom is living in a country that is enduring war ' says it all....I know I would be out of my mind with worry and probably be calling twice a day minimum.Sounds like your friend should do a bit of 'growing up'. edited by Nomad on 17/06/2014 The poster is telling her friend to tell her Husband to grow up My she a nice friend!

I just wondered Izzy why you think it is okay for the landlord to increase the rent (which is a change) but not for us to request a change to number of cheques? Surely it is fair that if the rent was being increased, the landlord would agree to accept more cheques. Out of interest, are you a landlord yourself? Is the increase inline with the calculator? if so then he is entitled to raise it but only by the calculator amount Chqs are at the discretion of both parties however if neither can agree ( as OP) said it will revert to the original amount from the beginning of the contract You can ask him to consider more than you pay now but he doesn't have to agree. if you agreed to the 20% and it is inline with the law then you will have to pay it I doubt the rent committee will argue the 90 days on this ( it is a very grey area) and tennants have lost due to this reason.

If the rental calculator is saying 20% and you agreed to 20% - you will have to pay this It seems like what you are arguing about is the number of cheques - I thought that in most cases if the notice has not been given in time the Rent Committee takes the number from the previous year? That is my understanding too

Found out thismorning that the woman I had booked to do my hair extensions and hair styling for the wedding has left Dubai for good, so need to find somewhere else to get the extensions and someone to do my hair on the day. Managed to order something on the wrong card when I meant to pay with Paypal - the card number I ordered with isn't even mine and I don't know who it belongs to... Then someone who works in my office came in, gave me a blank look when I said hello, then proceeded to be very rude because her laptop wasn't working - it wasn't plugged in to the wall. Might pull my hair out by the end of the day... I can out you in touch with the lady who does my extensions ( Great lengths and have never lost one in 2 years) when do you need them doing by?

Going against the grain here.... but you agreed to the 20% increase so you should it all fairness stick to that. I don't believe we should stick to it. It is clear the landlord is trying to circumvent the law by trying to increase by 28% originally. He obviously knew he could only increase by 20% and just tried to see if he could get away with it. Then requesting one cheque is completely unfair. If people don't stand up to these landlords everybody is going to suffer in the end. He is not being fair by any means, so why should we play ball? Is the 20% in line with the calculator?

Thank you everybody. I have just emailed him back. Will let you know the response (if any). How will I know if he opens a case with the Rental Committee? Do they inform me? Does it matter who registered the Ejari? Which, by the way, we did as he didn't bother. He is supposed to pay for the Ejari You will get notification to attend a hearing if ( and I doubt he will) open a case If all else fails, take your cheque book and contract down to the RC and they can issue a new contract

Thank you for your input. The point I am mainly trying to clarify is that we don't want to accept any increase or change of cheques, due to the fact that he did not advise us 90 days prior to the expiry of contract. We are currently standing firm that he should not make ANY changes to the contract as he did not give the required notice. I just wondered what people's opinions were on the fact that I said the 20% increase was fine (via email and after telling him he could not increase by 28% as he initially tried to do!) however we had not agreed on the number of cheques. This was done prior to me knowing he had to give us 90 days notice. Is the email binding? Does this insinuate that we came to an "agreement" even though we didn't agree on the number of cheques and didn't sign any contract? Any further thoughts would be much appreciated. Ok, understood - if this was me then I would not get into anymore lengthy email conversations except to say to him that he was out of the 90 days notice AS PER LAW. May I also say, well done for fighting this as I know many friends who have given in as they just don't want the hassle but you have been there for 4 years - it is your home. The less said to the LL now, the better and let him deal with it. So I'm saying that as you said, you will not accept any increase or changes to cheques etc. Good luck. I agree, my LL was sending lengthy emails and I just stuck to the facts and didn't deviate away from them. I told him if you want to go outside the law then open a case, needless to say he didn't The law is very clear on this to protect us from such bullying

We actually are not happy with the increase or the one cheque. We only said we were happy with the increase as we thought it was unavoidable. Now that we know he should have given us the 90 days notice we don't feel we should have to pay the increase or change the number of cheques. Last year he added that we pay 50% of the community fees and gave us no notice, we only saw it when we went to sign the contract. I now wish I had checked the law better previously. I guess I was just too trusting! They have to go by the calculator not what he thinks is suitable It is illegal to charge you "community fees" as this is his to pay I would go down and speak to the rent community If he wants to make any changes it has to be done with the 90 day rule and you have to agree He cannot just decide he wants 1 cheque, let him open a case and stand firm. They get away with the bullying as people are afraid. Tell him you are going to get legal advice.
