People who crowd in front of an elevator and push in once the door opens- to go up one level. Especially when all of them are men so no "high heels" excuse. They get a subtle whack from my big handbag when they do that If someone is getting the lift one floor - i usually say "its quicker to walk"...... Or take the escalator... I also dislike watching people without young children or strollers take the elevator when there are people waiting in line to take it and there is an escalator nearby... I hate it when they all crowd to get in the elevator and don't let people out first! edited by Chrissy23 on 10/06/2014 If you are trying to get out, stand in the middle where the doors open, big handbag in your hand and walk straight. Believe me they move out of the way pretty quickly LOL

Toys here (among other things) are rediculously over priced at the big toy stores in the malls, Hamley's, the Toy Store, Toys r Us, etc. Are there any toy markets that carry name brand toys? Looking for transformers, mindcraft, pokemon to name a few. Not Dragonmart with their generic toys. Ramadan and Eid are coming and need to find some things for the kids. :) thanks. Have a look online and see if they deliver, it may work out cheaper

although it may be the law to give a vacation notice that is notorised, i think that if you have signed saying that you will move out then morally this is what you should do. I imagine it would also depend on who you get if it goes to rent court I think the same goes for non renewable contracts. They aren't legal but have stood up in court Try and appeal to his better side and say you are here alone don't have money for moving expenses you have been a great tenant blah blah blah

Hi ladies, I currently rent a one bedroom apartment. I have lived there for two years and my lease is coming to an end. One year ago my landlord made me sign a piece of paper saying that I would leave as he was selling. I spoke to RERA and they said that he did not go about it the proper way at that chances are this would not hold up in court. It was not notarized, delivered by registered mail , etc. I have been a very good tenant. I have even let him show my place numerous times although I don’t need to. He has not yet sold and he agreed to let me stay month to month as long as I let them show and give him a key (shady). Current situation is now he doesn’t want me to stay as I’m not willing to pay his price. I am willing to agree to a 15 percent increase but he wants more! My thoughts were what if I just agreed to his price, stayed, changed the locks and did not show the apt. Would there be any legal repercussions? What can he do? Take me to court for not allowing viewings? There is no law to say you have to allow viewings. Most people are flexible regarding this though I would only agree to a increase inline with the rent calculator and as he has not provided you with a notarized vacating letter legally he cannot ask you to leave although you did sign something and this may stand up in rent court. I would tell him that legally he has to give you 12 months notice via notary public ( There are threads from the legal side of things you can send to him) advise you are happy to keep showing the property and say you will pay the 15% increase as a goodwill gesture. You can change the locks and stay but you will have to negotiate your new contract at some point and he may open a case against you at the rent committee and there is no guarantee that you will be able to stay plus if you do not negotiate a new contact and pay the cheques then he can evict you for non payment . edited by sarahlou123 on 10/06/2014

Spanx! I know there is a selection available from Debenhams. But I'm sure other dept stores will have a lot to choose from too. Marks & Spencer also have their own brand. Spanx are so much better that the M&S range of shapewear You can get them from K Lynne

funny how no-one has mentioned the wastage of water...especially seeing as we live in a desert environment......Coming from Australia if everyone washed there would be no water........ ...and yet everyone washes their hands? and showers (well we hope they do) Good wash once a week in the sink, feet on the draining board ;-)

Morning all, Yet again my fridge freezer on the blink again. Can anyone recommend a reputable company that doesn't rip you off. Previous one just did that and wouldn't trust them with my fridge freezer again. Thanks :( What is the make? Have you contacted the manufacturers here? I have also used their repairmen for repairs and never had an issue

Doesn't matter if you're paying NI or not, you're classed as non-resident my colleagues Wife still pays NI and when she gave birth in the UK 2 years ago ( Has lived here for 10) she disclosed this and they allowed to her to deliver for free They rarely check and if you have a NI number and a UK address then I doubt they can enforce however they may ask for information from your DR which is difficult to provide if you don't live in the UK.

so, do all the people who only use the spray seriously imagine that those of us who don't are walking around with "pooey bums" (to use my youngest's phrase) ? Do you not think that we make sure the last piece of paper is spotless before we finish ? Sorry to be gross about this but there seems to be a misunderstanding.. also, most times there's barely a mark on the paper anyway - perhaps different diets make for different consistencies that require different levels of cleaning - trying not to be too graphic !! lol when you blow your nose do you have to use wet tissues ? I think perhaps they feel there is an odour left behind not a mark ( if that makes sense)

Thank you that's what I thought. However we are dealing with a very large Real Estate company, I guess they figure out that if they try it on some tenants will give in. They were also trying to reduce the cheques and increase the rent without the 90 days notice! We just had a letter saying your rent is now xxx you can only pay in 3 cheques this year and you must send us your cheques before you get your contract. They also send a screen shot of the RERA calculator - guess they are just trying to bully people Thanks for all your replies it reinforces my thoughts Tell them to s@d off and if they don't comply with the laws you will take them to the rent committee who will issue a new contract for you

Our existing Landlord wants us to send the cheques for renewal 60 days before the end of the contract before renewing. He has said when he receives them then he will prepare the new rental contract. What do RERA say, I would personally want to see the contract before handing over any cheques. Does anyone know what the law says on this. I wouldn't give over the cheques until I have the contract I have always given mine over at the same time as I get the new contract 60 days before? I imagine RERA would advise the same

Our company has just increased ours by 1000 aed per employee and that was because everyone was complaining that the amount that they used to give us wasn't even enough for a one way ticket to the UK ! even after the increase .. the amount doesn't cover a return flight to Manchester for me .. However, they have decided to give that amount to everyone.. so basically its one flat rate to all employees.. pants for us but fantastic for the staff that are from India .. the amount we get covers business class for them ! I managed to get one to Manchester in the Summer for 3505 ( 1 quick stop over) Emirates want over 6000!!! it think the cheaper flights are out there but most people want direct flights which tend to be pricier

Imagine using public swimming pools where someone didn't wash up after themselves properly. Or trying on trousers that someone else has tried on Do you not wear underwear ? I think most of the ladies on here have swum in public pools, tried on clothing and never ended up with any hideous diseases. As children most of us have eaten mud, insects the list is endless What diseases can you get from trying on clothes? That above post has to be a wind up

I am a convert must admit, I couldn't be without these little hosepipes now. Also just to ask, you know the loos in the malls, they have a little bin next to the toilet where everyone puts in their loo roll, it's always overflowing. What's the reason for this, is it because of the plumbing system is crappy and you aren't meant to flush the loo roll down the toilet in case it gets blocked? Do people wipe and put in the bins?, what about after no2. I've never put anything in the bin - I thought they were for ladies' things... Me too although some toilets do say don't throw loo paper down the toilet

I don't understand why people who don't use them are deemed as gross I have survived for 42 years without one so it all cannot be bad It's not about using the hose it's about using some means of water to clean ones self. Toilet paper would not get rid of any nasty odours would it. Why are there so many wet wipes on the market these days??? ewww, and then when you step in the water, you get poop on your shoes! frankly, I don't think I stink and use wet wipes only for my children ... perhaps that's why there are so many on the market? Because there are lots of children? Never been told I stink of poop and not many people stick their head by my bottom either ha

Flights have gone up SO much on the past few years, but I am still getting a 2010 flight price - do I have a right to ask for more? TIA You can try Polly but it is perk not law Good Luck!

How does one use those without soaking their clothing? Getting little bits of poop all over the place in the process? To me, they have got to be the least hygienic things in the world! The UK has never had them and I don't see any illnesses as a result of us not having them in bathrooms. What about all the cases of threadworms etc all due to personal hygiene I haven't suffered from it so cannot comment on that :-)

Some nationalities (I don't know which though) seem to primarily use the hosepipe to spray down the walls & floor, and make puddles to dip our skirts/trousers in when we pull them down Not forgetting soaking the entire toilet, floor and seat! I have nearly skidded and lost my balance

we were always told to wash after doing whatever from a young age and this is coming from the uk. Coming to Dubai was a huge relief as the hosepipe made life so much easier. I can't believe people actually just wipe and go! Ewww We wouldn't leave the bathroom without washing our hands with soap and water???? Ewww We weren't taught that from a young age and neither were most people I know. I didn't suffer from any illnesses etc so it couldn't of been so bad :-)

Something always bugs me regarding the drivers here. If you check social media, Facebook, EW, 99% of the posters strongly criticize dangerous driving, as in swerving, using cellphones, changing lanes without indicators, pushing into a queue, but anything from 20-40% of the road users at any one time drive recklessly and stupidly. And such driving is across all social classes and all types of cars, is it that people "pretend" to be good drivers on the net, or is it that bad drivers do not tend to post on the web ? I walk around Arabian Ranches a lot and would say that over half of drivers are on the phone. Mums on the school run are the worst offenders :( I can relate to that. It is the same in the Greens and the speed they come down street 7. Someone is going to be seriously injured one day as they drive around people on the pedestrian crossings!

A lot of people go into real estate when they are living in Dubai You may find if you are in another country and applying then they prefer people with real estate experience. It is best to note that some pay no basic salary ( only salary) and others a very low basic salary. I don't know if agents are making the big bucks now ( As they were pre 2009) as there are so many real estate companies in Dubai Good Luck

To give you an idea of a single persons outgoings here goes My rent is AED6250 a month, I live in a one bed in a nice area but not one of the expensive ones, however the going rate for my building is now AED10,000 a month!!! My food bills are AED1200 a month which includes cleaning stuff and toiletries DEWA is around 500-600 which includes the housing allowance TV and Internet is AED300 per month ( I have the lowest TV package) My hair costs me AED200 a month but that is because a friend does it Mani/Pedi/Eyebrows AED250 Salik and Petrol ( You may use cabs as they are cheap) AED400 I haven't even touched on going out, clothes, if you have a credit card etc Total is AED9200 per month I don't live frugally however when I used to go out most weekends it is easy to spend another AED500 on a brunch then another AED500 afterwards If I did go out one weekend night for dinner and drinks then add on at least another 3-4k That would total AED12000 per month I know people who do live on much smaller salaries but believe me they have racked up credit card debt galore. I moved here albeit several years ago and it took me 3 months to find a job I had a years worth of rent to pay upfront plus a lot of savings edited by sarahlou123 on 05/06/2014
