2000AED to raise a new cheque! That is almost 340GBP that is horrific When mine returned due to signature irregularity I just did it through the bank direct, no charges were levied. Who do you bank with as I have never seen costs that high for a bounced/returned cheque

The ad that mass me giggle every tie is on Dubai One. It is for Lipton tea, and the actress has such a thick Indian accent and says "if only our guessing were as good as your tea" (I think that is what she is saying), but every time I hear it, it sounds like "if only orgasms were as good as her tea". and I think "that tea must be REALLY good! Maybe that IS what she is saying... Watch Lipton fly off the shelves!

Which is fine if yo can afford it, but so many people here now get *no* help with rent and it's a genuine and stressful problem trying to pay such large lump sums. It's insane that rent isn't paid monthly here. We don't get any help at all with our rent, but have managed to save just enough to pay the first three months. As I said I have seen a number of people stuck with having to find the extra % when the cheques are refused due to a slight difference in the signature etc What extra ^%? I only get charged if the cheques bounce, if there is an issue with signature there is no charge. Me too even though the signature was the same as the gazillion others I have written here I wish they would do monthly direct debits but then direct debits can be stopped so perhaps not

Thanks ladies, your insight is really helpful. Hubby may have a job opportunity in the Philippines (he is Egyptian, I'm S.African) and neither of us have lived there before so may be a bit of a struggle to get a loan from a bank there. Might have to do one from one of our home countries, perhaps? I imagine once you a working there and resident you may well be able too obtain credit I would check how much it costs to pay off debts here as some charge a fortune in early repayment fees. It may be cheaper to keep on paying when you have left

Depends on your work - if they notify your bank that you have resigned, the bank could freeze your accounts.... you should close everything before you leave but as we know many have done runners. Central bank has informed that freezing is illegal however they still do it

I really want to leave the UAE on a good note when the time comes (no running for us!) So do any banks transfer loans to a diff bank in a diff country? I have never come across it as I believe for example the HSBC here as no affiliation with other HSBC's in the wolrd. Where are you going too and how long is it since you lived there? In the UK you have to of been a resident for more than 3 years, have a credit history and be on the voters role to obtain credit therefore I doubt they would transfer a loan/CC from a bank here to there ( I am using the UK as an example only) Unless you match the above criteria Perhaps one of the OP can help on this :-)

Hi There, just wondering does anyone know the actual dates for the summer surprises sales this year - there is no definite date on any website. I see there are some sales on now but am I right to presume the big ones won't start until end of Ramadan (around the 27th July and run then into August?) Thanks! Last year it was June but haven't a clue this yr. a few started at the weekend as I have been receiving texts galore

Hi ladies, While going into an underground parking garage this morning I turned too sharp and scraped the back door on my car against a cement corner. Obviously there was no damage to the cement wall. Can I just take my car into any police station to get a report or do I have to show them the location of where the damage happened? TIA I have done that so many times here :-( When I did it in the underground carpark I called the police out and showed them where it happened however I believe now you go to the nearest police station and report the damage

This is actually another where do I go for hair thread with an entertaining story :D So I just needed a trim and walked into one of these popular nail salons in Dubai. The hairdresser said I make you look sexyyyy I give you Ficktoriaaa (Victoria) haircut! I was like no no a trim is fine. I make the biggest mistake of looking down at my phone for a few seconds, look up and she has chopped half of my hair at eye level! My hair pre hair disaster were a safe layered below the shoulders length. It was unbelievable what she had done, next were water works, disbelief and her insisting that I let her finish the Fictoriaa haircut! I fled the scene looking like Alex the lion from madagascar!! Went to my old hairdresser and begged him to make me look like a normal person. He said that the hairdresser from lala land had tried to give me the 'lioness' haircut which basically looks like you have a flying saucer hovering above your ears! Long story short my hair have finally grown to a stage where they can be styled without me looking like a freak. Awkward looks from strangers and a bruised self esteem later I need and deserve celebrity hair now! :D Haircut hair color the works. Thinking of going to Salon Ink or Roots al barsha.. am I making the right choice ladies? My budget is under 1k Yes you are either see Ali or Kelly at SI or Donna at Roots. They will sort you out? Victoria? did she mean Beckham as she has long hair ( extensions again)

Yeh great value - really reasonable and somewhere to take the boys to tire them out!!! lol My son mentioned that they were doing memberships too although I'm not sure of the prices. We will be back there soon though and I will find out. With the summer holidays coming it may be worth while taking a membership rather than paying a daily rate ..... xx 800AED weekdays 10am-4pm July 1st to Aug 31st

Hi there, I would say make sure you have a clear schedule, written done and stuck on the fridge with goals/tasks you expect your nanny to achieve. This includes meals/snacks for the day, nap time, play time, learning time etc. You want to take the thinking out of it all and let your nanny get on with it. By doing this you at-least (fingers crossed) protect your child from being plonked in-front of the tv the whole day. Nanny cam on :-)

I was wondering if anyone has tried going to the night flea market? I'm considering getting at table for Friday 6th of June from 7pm-11pm to sell mainly books, DVDs, clothes, etc... I'm wondering if it's worth it financially and as an experience overall. Any feedback is very much appreciated! Thanks Friends have done well financially I would advise that you do it with someone though as there are so very light fingered people about

Hmmm you know the saying if it's too good to be true, it usually is? Can't find anything about these doctors. They are on FB and I looked at the DR, he is ex John Hopkins so seems legitimate They use the brand Allergan and unfortunately I am immune to that product and prefer Dysport They told me on the phone it is just short of 900 for around the eyes and forehead Yes I read the fb page but googled and nothing. Just curious. I will stick with the UK and DR khan :-) better the devil you know

If it is just something minor I would expect her to suck it up and get on with her job like everyone else has to when they aren't feeling great. If she feels it is worse she could choose to take the day off work but I'd be clear she only had a set number of paid sick days per year and after that they are unpaid. I wouldn't agree to extra rests or daytime naps, it would be either you work the day or you don't. Of course if she suddenly felt unwell halfway through the day she could take the rest of the day off but it would count as half a sick day. I don't see why you should treat it any differently to sick days in any other job. Within the 1st 6 months, no pay as we don't :-)
