Has anyone successfully found a job in finance and banking industry after relocating to Dubai? I have UK experience and qualification, but am looking for finance and accounting roles in banking or other financial industries, but struggling at the moment, so just wondering if there's been any success from anyone who could offer tips? I'm registered with Michael Page, Robert Half and have applied through LinkedIn, but haven't got any interviews after a month of active looking. I would advise you to go onto company websites and apply through their job portals and career sites. A month is not a long time here it can take much longer I don't work in that industry however agencies here work on the client side so they will only contact you if they have a role to suit. Good Luck

Anyone dealt with a freelance real estate agent before? I called up about a property to rent in JVC and the lady said she was a freelance agent.. Is this allowed, how can you trust them?? Check they are registered with RERA I believe there are a lot of them as many agencies don't sponsor, so in theory I suppose they are freelance and receive commission only

Hi Ladies Just want to see how you got on at RC? We are now in a similar boat; the landlord gave us 12 month notice (after we refused to pay his increase, only agreed on the RERA mandated 10%) and have now found out that a few of our neighbors received the exact same eviction notice (LL's family moving in). I just want to know if it will be worth taking up a case as we are really in a bind now. We found out that we are expecting our first one (due date is 3 weeks before we are meant to be out) and have tried to move now before prices go even higher, but the LL is charging us 2 months penalty and our deposit if we move now. I really don't want to be househunting/moving with a new born, but have decided that our LL is to greedy for his own good and really think we should take him on (along with our neighbors). anyone have any advice on their RERA experience? thank you The LL has to give you a reason Selling Moving in ( Has to prove he has no alternative accomodation) Major maintenance Place is unhabitable I received my notice yesterday by notary public, it says clearly that my LL is selling and I have to move. It was stamped by the courts. If he gives you 12 months notice via the correct channels for one of the reasons above then you have to abide by it. If after 12 months he doesn't sell or move in and you find out that new tenants are renting you will then have to open a case with the RC and hope you win.

Hi Ladies My friend is relocating from UK and starting work in Abu Dhabi next month. He is keen to stay in Dubai but wanted to get an idea of commute times he is considering (in no particular order) JLT, Discovery Gardens, Marina, Jebel Ali and the Greens. Does anyone travel to AD from these areas? He will be working right next to AD airport and working hours are 7am to 5pm. TIA Luella About an hour from Disco Gardens I drove to the corniche the other morning .... only took me an hour from Umm suqeim, i almost kept to the grace limit ;) My colleague said 45 mins but he drives a lot faster than me

I am sure you can apply for a new passport whenever you want. I was filling out the application form yesterday evening and recall something about applying at anytime. u can apply anytime but they will not give you back any "unused" time apart from 9 months! we ran out of pages in a newish passport maybe 3 years old so we lost 7 years - 9 months Yes that is true, I didn't explain very well. I was referring to the fact that if you have travel plans you can apply at anytime to ensure you have a new passport in time. I will also lose a couple of years from my old passport when I renew but I need to get a new one so just have to live with it. Thank you for all your help

The tax man would cripple me But, even at the higher rate of tax, we are no better off financially here - the high cost of living outweighs our tax bill back home! If you have kids I imagine it is tough financially ( Unless you get a huge package) I am better off here financially with much more disposable income I used to struggle at home

We have no choice, but to stay here for the foreseeable future. I'm getting used to it and do quite enjoy the lifestyle, but there is nothing to make up for having to watch the grandkids grow up via fb and skype :( When I tell my friends in the UK that I miss home they all say give it 6 months here and you wouldn't. The tax man would cripple me and although I love some of the things people have listed I used to hate the dark morning and constant rain!

6-7 months prior to expiration date as some countries require a passport to be valid for 6 months at least in order to travel..I always get mine redone when it has around 7-8 months left on it if I intend on travelling. If not you can stretch it... Thank you :-)

At the rist of sounding like a stuck record. Try joining The Old Library at MOE in the DUCTAC complex. You won't have to buy books and they will purchese books that are recomenations from members if they think other members will read the book too. Do you join like a regular library

You could always ask your neighbors about the new people who moved in after you left. Or the building management. You could also keep an eye on the real estate listings. If you have a two bedroom apartment in a certain building, and see adverts for 2-beds in the same building just after you've moved out, call the agent number and find out what the apartment number is. If the number matches up, arrange to view the apartment yourself to make sure it's the same place, and if it is, file a claim. Yes, it does require some work. It's up to you to decide if it's worth it. It seemed impossible to find out if he re-rented the place, and it would have made much more sense if there was a form online at RERA you could fill out when you received your 12 months notice, and then RERA would be responsible for making sure he didn't re-lease the apartment. Sorry not very helpful :/ Do DEWA liaise with the authorities as they will know who the tenants are?

As we all know, for some reason Dubai does not stock the Tampax plastic applicator tampons, but the Boots own brand plastic applicator tampons are exactly the same. Problem is, they're sold out at MOE, Marina Mall and IBN Battuta, and it's been like this for literally 3 weeks. All they keep saying is they've ordered them, but they've just not arrived yet. Anyone know of another branch of Boots that have got them in stock? The cardboard applicator ones just don't really do it for me. Not enough grip... Al Maya at the DIFC stock Tampax in reg/super and super plus Perhaps try the Al Mayas

Can the 12month notice be served anytime not waiting till the end of lease? Has anyone had any recent experiences and got RERA to confirm this? We still have 5months on our current lease but got served the notice already. Also, our LL has stated he needs the apartment for his 'personal use'. As per the law, he should 'prove' he has nowhere else to live - but do the LLs actually have to prove it and how do they do it? Or should we go by the letter meaning that we could take this to RERA if the apartment got re-rented? Many thanks ladies edited by LovelyLilies on 05/05/2014 It doesn't state from end of contract anywhere and my LL checked as I did with RC and we told they could serve it at any point however most prefer to do it at the end of the lease Someone did say on here that when you move out to inform DEWA as they liaise with the RC and are aware that LL are giving the notice to sell purely to get In new tenants at a higher cost. I imagine it is really difficult to prove they have re-rented

From my experience, those men having affairs are the ones whose wives are very smug and self assured about how family orientated their DH's are. In reality they are bonking the brains out of women, who don't care less about balding ancient men. As for the women having affairs.....well.......coffee mornings come in many varieties. Or they turn a blind eye as don't want to lose the life they have :-(

Are you sure that SHE did this? and not her soon to be ex husband? PS - how do you see if someone blocked you on Whatsapp? You cant see their "Last seen at" although you can change the privacy settings to no-one and my contacts now When you send a message if it is delivered there are 2 ticks. If you are blocked it remains at one, you cannot see an updated profile pic. You can also put their number in another handset and look that way. :-)

i moved to my apt in august last year and got a notice that the landlord is selling the building .the notice i have received is dated march ( although i just got it today - landlord claimed it was sent to my mailbox ). i have been asked to vacate either in august upon lease ending or extension till march is given as the building is will be sold in march next year. do i have a case with rera ? do i really have to leave ? He can ask you to vacate if he is selling however he has to give you 12 months notice which has to be either couriered or notarized. He cannot ask you to leave until the 12 months notice is given The laws are pretty clear on this Look at Article 25 point number 2 http://www.bhomes.com/pdf/law-no-33-2008.pdf You can email and say as per the above law, you can ask me vacate however I have to be given 12 months notice via the legal channels. Keep a copy of all your correspondence but the 12 months notice has been given via notice now till 15th of march next year .. now but of course i have not accepted or notarise it I think the only thing you could argue is that you didn't receive it until May. He has given it in writing and sometimes the Rent Committee will take that as a sufficient way to give notice ( Although the laws say different) I feel the only thing you can argue is that he sent it in March but you didn't receive it till May. Can you prove that and is there a date on the letter he sent?

My fiancé and her fiancé were quite good friends before either of us girls came into the picture, but their friendship really declined (mostly due to the drama on nights out, my fiancé couldn't put up with that every time we were out with them). There have been ups and downs mostly due to her fiancé deciding he didn't like us at that time for one reason or another. This most recent occasion we weren't really aware there was a problem - but apparently he didn't want to come down to this bbq (at a friends place in the same building they live) because he didn't want to see my fiancé. A shock to us as we weren't aware there was even an issue. Later that night my DF had an argument with hers, and he apparently decided anything my DF said had come from me - I wasn't even there at the time. This is when he first decided he didn't want us to be friends - and even she said he was using me as a scapegoat. I have always been there for her, regardless of the situation. But even today when I mentioned I was no longer on her BBM and blocked from her Whatsapp she told me her Whatsapp was just broken (which I knew wasn't true). it is so easy to see if you are blocked now especially with the new settings I am sorry but he sounds a right one!

I didn't see the original thread. But in all honesty religious requirements aside if he doesn't regard the dog as part of the family then sadly it is probably not the best place for her. It is a shame there are many places in the world that consider dogs dangerous or unclean for a variety of reasons. And thousands of years ago it is likely they were and rules were justified. But present day pet dogs in wealthy countries that are vaccinated, regularly wormed, fed appropriately, bathed, brushed, trained and looked after are not alike to dogs in poorer countries or dogs thousands of years ago. Give me dogs over some humans!
