I am going to upset the applecart here and say leave her alone Obviously this guy who isn't even her Husband ( Not that it matters) is more important to her than her friends. I wouldn't be there for someone who told me that she had chosen her partner over me She should tell him you are her friend and its tough, what is he going to do? leave her and if he does, surely that shows what sort of person he is. and things will probably get worse. If he is that controlling now imagine what he will like once they are married. I am sorry if I sound hard or harsh but that is my 2 cents. I have had friends in the past who once they find a man drop you like a hot potato but once the relationship goes South they are back in the picture. I do not want nor need friends like that Good Luck Not harsh at all, I actually agree with you. I have often had that thought that they are not even married yet, and it won't get any better once they are. I have seen it happen so often here, not to me personally but to other friends You sound like a great friend so it Is her loss

wouldnt have said anything, would say its none of my business. i'm not saying i agree with it but i dont think its anyones place to say. I agree, I would not have said anything - it is not my business. It does not mean I agree with slapping a toddler however, we must remember we are living in a country with over 100 different nationalities, cultures, traditions, etc and it is wrong to interfere. Also, there is a BIG difference between a slap and abuse. I can imagine the the toddler was tired, bored and frustrated and the mother was tired and frustrated too. Shopping is not an activity that a toddler enjoys or can manage for any extended period, but sometimes a mother has no other choice. yes .... sometimes there is no choice. don't blame mother. if she is slapping her kid, she is feeling the same pain too. A cuddle would have made the situation better for both of them. I am sorry, but I would blame the mother. I, too am a mother. I get tired. I get frustrated. But never would slap my child in the face! We all get frustrated with OH and DH etc but would we slap them In the face?

If a man did this to a woman in a shop he would be [b'>arrested[/b'>. Why is it different for a child I would of wanted to say "Pick on someone your own size" Under the laws of the land, if the woman was his wife, I'm not sure he would. Would love someone to tell me I'm wrong though. I pity the man who ever tried to slap me!

On the bottom no but the face yeesh I remember years ago my Sister telling a Lady off for hitting her child across the head, she was met with a barrage of abusive language so my Sister called the Police. We were disciplined as children however I don't ever remember being slapped across the head or face, mainly on the bottom and not hard. What kind of behavior is this teaching a small child. If a Man did it to a Woman or vice versa it would be classed as abuse. I agree... slapping someone across the face is awful esp a child. If a man did this to a woman in a shop he would be arrested. I used to work with a guy who was quite openly shaging one of the BD girls...... he was married with two small sons. How anyone with small children has the energy for an affair is beyond me. Dear all, if anyone has any feedback on the above and if they have been there as a large group I would appreciate your comments. It's for a birthday party for 20ish people. Can you rate their service and food? The place looks gorgeous and I really like the view on the creek and golf, plus entertainment seems nice. I am wondering though also if it is feasible if we eat inside as it will be end of the month on a Friday evening so will be hot. This is my latest idea for my DH 40th party. I thought of surprising him for a dinner in the restaurant with friends and family. What do you think? Any feedback will be very valuable! My friend who runs Gooseberry in Dubai went at the weekend. Her FB page said she had a fabulous time and the views were lovely

I have no issues seeing out of hte mirrors but there is a blind spot - it has nearly caught me out a few times but i know where it is now so am a little more cautious. i wouldn't recommend it for famillies though just because the back doors are a bit of a pain in the backside, especially if you are parking in a car park etc. They open out the other way don't they?

My colleague swears by the Ford Explorer Can you check with your colleague about petrol consumption as we are thinking to change our 4x4 to Ford Explorer OR Nissan Xterra He drives from Jebel Ali to DIFC to work everyday then bobbing about at the weekend with the family. He said he uses 1 tank a week if that makes sense Sorry I cant give numbers :-)

Totally agree with the OP. I think that is applicable to almost every imported product in Dxb - the place is so overpriced compared to my home country - the UK. I cannot understand why this place is a retail mecca because the prices are not competitive and new products/ranges/launches (to me) seem to arrive here much later than the UK. It is cheaper than Singapore, Australia and many other countries, hence the visitors for retail I used to be a crazy shopper here but since having a Kindle and a SnS account I buy everything from the UK, the sales there are fab and I have saved a fortune

I went to a book store today and bought a book for AED85 (£13.71) as I just really wanted to have it right now, one of those things :-) Only to find it on amazon for £4.66!!! That makes it almost 3 times the price here than in the UK!!! Surely importing it doesn't cost that much?! Anyone working in publishing care to explain this extreme hike in price? I have officially stopped purchasing books in Dubai... (well, till next time) I think the distributors set the costs here not the import costs :-( All the more reason why I bought a Kindle.

Just out of interest, how much does Jamal charge? He came over to mine for 3 sets of curtain and quoted AED8000..... is that expensive? Plus I can't seem to get hold of him now for a date fiord hanging them despite me giving him a deposit. 450GBP for a set of curtains WOW personally i think that is high It does include tie backs and sheer voil fabric behind, plus the drop is about 15 feet. I am a penny pincher lol

Not changing the locks is part of the rental agreement :( I would never not change my locks. Being a single woman here how do I know that all keys were returned and not copied. I always keep the old locks and just change them back. What if you locked yourself out or a key accidentially snapped in the lock ( Tee Hee) Sounds like she's talking about an office not her home. Ah, sorry I must of missed that

I bet the RC are inundated at present That's what put us off taking the LL any further. There are so many different answers being given to the same complaints that you can't be guaranteed anything. That's why I called about 6 or 7 times with the same query. Wanted to make sure everyone was singing the same song as it were. It's frustrating and I know so many people filing cases right now and so many people who have been given 12 months notice to vacate at their renewal. I really really hate to say it, [b'>but here's to hoping the bubble bursts again and people learn another lesson[/b'>. If I had access to the thumbs on this computer I'd definitely "like" this. I have liked it for you GE, however the RC people may sing from the same song sheet as per the laws we have read online etc however people were overruled by the judges at hearings. I recently read about it happening to a poster on here.

Not sure on that one Sarah. But have known a couple of people get compensation through it. Thanks My LL has taken her property off the market and when It was up for sale I did say I would move after the 12 month period. I am not sure where I stand now. I have a 12 month contract taking me to mid 2015 so I will hang fire and see what happens

Our LL told us that because of Expo he could get much higher rents for his properties. He was quite taken aback when DH turned round and said yes, but that's still six years away, what are you going to get in the meantime. I will add that we are paying the 10% as stipulated by RERA and getting the same contract as last year. He did "suggest" we could pay the same and have 12 months notice, but we want to leave when it suits us. And which of the four reasons was he going to stipulate in that 12 months notice? You know unless hey stick by it, they're banned from renting for a year. Is that enforced though. Didn't someone take a LL to court for the same reason and lost??? What you do is when you leave, you inform RERA and DEWA then they will only register the property in the owners name. They're being quite strict with all the laws now as they're are sick and tired of this happening. I was actually messaged by one of the Senior Directors of RERA and the Land Department and he said people have to stick to their guns and fight their case. Too many unscrupulous landlords trying to get away with all sorts. edited by FairyDust on 04/05/2014 Will DEWA and RERA inform the ex tenant that LL hasn't moved in or sold the property and is re-renting?

Is it because of EXPO fever though as that is a long way off. Are people buying due to what is happening in other M.E countries and because the interest rates are so low at the banks that people are investing in property as they aren't getting anything at the banks? Someone said to me that real estate agents are telling LL they can get huge amounts for rents so said LL signs on with their agency however once signed on they advise that they may have to take less for rent. I cannot really remember the prices pre 2009 however I do remember living in the Marina in 2008 in a decent building and I paid 80k for a one bed, I believe they are above 100k now. It is getting stupid and unaffordable for people. I for one would go home before I would pay 10k a month for a small one bed in the old Greens

Extensions have never damaged my hair and being a dirty blond I have my roots done every 4 weeks plus have had extensions off and on for 4 years My hair is so fine. It is really long but limp and lifeless so the extensions are in purely for volume. I have them put in every 4 months and whilst I know it is an expensive habit I feel bald when they are out. I only have 40-50 at a time and they are on keratin bonds not glue so no real hair loss when they are removed. Great Lengths are the best ones, I have had others and lost 10% of them but with these ones I haven't lost a single one. They are so manageable, easy to style, etc etc Donna at Roots Barsha does mine. With regards to Keratin to straighten, the best one is Kerastraight. It is recommended by Trevor Sorbie who is a leading hairdresser in the UK and unlike the other Keratin products it doesn't contain any nasty chemicals. I did buy a straightening product in the UK. The beauty magazines were raving on about it. It is made by Tresseme and it is a 7 day Keratin straightening serum. I don't think you can get it here but it cost 21AED at home. You apply on wet hair, blowdry and straighten. My hair stays straight for 4 days without washing and it smells lovely to boot. It is trial and error with your hair here. I wont buy shop bought shampoos, only Kerastace and I have a filter and do occasionally rinse my hair in bottled water as the water here for me causes it to fall out! I hope all of this helps

So, having filed a case at RERA against our office owner regarding his rent increase (17 percent with only 20 days notice), said owner has just been to the office, told us he wants us out, and is changing the locks tomorrow !! Doesn't care that we have a rera case filed, claims he has no notice of that, despite the hearing being on Tuesday, and despite us bringing the rera guy to the owners office to serve notice ! RERA advise us to call the police if he changes the locks tomorrow. Great - more hassle ! Considering that there are no facilities around our office block, the roads are in a mess, building is going on, and the building is less than half occupied, I just wonder where he thinks his new tenants are coming from! Did you change the locks when you moved in? Stories like this make my blood boil and I feel we will hear more of them :-(

Demand drives prices up...we were looking to move and apartments and villas were snapped up at horrendously high prices, like people were 'buying bread'...We kept missing out as they just went so fast... And you really believed that they were actually being rented? Demand drives prices up in the real world, but this is the UAE, and Dubai in particular. Here, prices can be - and are - driven up by landlords just demanding that they will now only accept *this* much. If they have an Islamic mortgage, they don't have to pay it while the property is empty, so they can afford to wait. Estate agents here are famous for advertising properties at attractive rents just to get calls, at which point they pull the old bait-and-switch trick with "Oh, sorry, that one's just been rented, but I've got another one here that's X amount more..." edited by Madge_Gustard on 04/05/2014 The apartment next to me has stood empty for 3 months and has just been rented I was chatting with my new neighbor and he is paying an extra 45k than I pay!!!
