You can get an idea from the internet but really best to wait until you are here and then see what areas you think suit. You could always stay in the World trade centre apartments for the first few months. These are really close to DIFC and are basically serviced apartments. My employer told me that I should come up with some ideas of where I would like to live upfront, because they will give me an agent who will then show me a few apartments in my preferred areas upon my arrival. I just dont wont to seem like an idiot, asking for a 1 bed downtown ;-) So I hope Al Barsha or Greens will not sound too stupid considering my budget :-) I really like Marina too, but I don't think I will find anything decent for under 80k. Thanks for all the suggestions so far anyways!! Very much apreciated :-) Good luck finding a decent agent who will show you a few places When I have looked in the past, most don't turn up and expect the current tenant or watchman to show you around :-) ( 4 apartments in 8 years here) Your best bet is to try and find a LL direct as you wont have to pay agency fees.

I also had a quick look at Bur Dubai, which seems to be cheaper than most other central areas. But I got the impression that its quite crazy and loud in the streets, a more "oriental / asian style" living area, and much less western. Is that correct? That would be correct. I would not recommend a single western woman live in a Bur Dubai/Karama apartment. My fiend once did, `I stayed with her once and was then nervous on her behalf. She moved pretty swiftly. Friends of mine did too although many lived In the Golden Sands area when they first moved here.If OP has transport then Motor City/Sports City are priced okay, if not Barsha, Tecom and Disco Gardens are her best bet

I have a receipt from the company but the owner is saying that this is not their letter heads. The cheque was cashed out and I went to HSBC (my bank) to cheque if I can get a copy of the cheque and who withdrew it but they said they cannot do it unless I have a request from Police or RERA and both police and RERA cannot give me this letter. If anyone knows any person in HSBC that can help, I will be more than thankful. So let me get this straight the bank will not give you a copy of your cheque that you wrote?

The cheque is made in favor of the company and the agency owner is admitting that he cashed out the money but he is saying that he gave them to the agent who ran away because he thought that they are the fees for renewal for the old apartment that I am currently staying in. The agency owner is denying any knowledge regarding the new apartment that I rented. It is all messed out and I feel lost :( I smell BS here. He cashed the cheque and gave the entire amount to an agent hmmmmm no agent gets commissions to that value on a rental and how is it your fault that the agent ran off?. It is the agency that should refund or hand over the apartment. Legally he should be sorting this out and is trying to pass the buck so he isn't out of pocket.

The Real Estates Agency is "Fortunes Homes Rel Estates" and it is registered in RERA. Unfortunately the cheque was cashed out. I have title deed, receipt and a contract that most probably is fake. How is it your fault that an agent from said company does a runner with your money? If the cheque was made out to the company how did the agent cash it? I would park myself in the real estate agency and not move till they gave me my money back Does the real estate agency still exist? surely they are liable for what the agent did?

70 - 80 k for a studio? :-( I know there are ones in that range, but checkin Dubizzle I found a few places, especiall in Al Barsha, within the range of 65 - 80 k for a 1 bed. Not sure about the quality though. In the Greens I also found two or three apartments for 80 k for a 1 bed, but these do seem to be rare and are for sure not the nicest ones in the area ;-) Lucky you got yours before the prices went up again! edited by Sasasa on 15/04/2014 I would wait and speak to the advertisers as they do have a habit of upping the costs when you actually talk to them in person. The apartment prices are crazy and even in the height of the boom here I was paying 80k for a big 1 bed in a very apartment in the Marina!

Good Morning Ladies, My name is Lama and this is the first time I post a thread on this forum but I am hopeless and I need help. I rented an apartment in JLT through a real estate agency represented by one of their agents. The contract started on 1st of April and I already paid the full rent amount in a cheque in favor of the real Estate agency. However the contract seems to be unreal and the agency is claiming that the agent that was representing the company took the money and ran away. Therefore I am with no apartment. I went to Dubai police but they said they couldn't help since I should raise a complaint against the agency. I went to RERA, they said I should go to court. I kindly ask you if you know any lawyer or any party that can help me with this issue. Thanks in advance, Lama Was the real estate agent rera registered and do you have a copy of the title deeds? Dear Ladies, I am new to Expat Woman and have a first question straight away :-) I am about to move to Dubai next month and am currently trying to find out which areas would be a good choice to live at. I will be working at the DIFC and unfortunately a place downtown will not be in my budget (I am looking for a 1 bedroom in the range of 65.000 to 80.000 AED per year). I have been looking through apartments in Al Barsha on Dubizzle and have noticed that there seem to be a few new apartments available at Pond Park. I just can't find any information about that area in terms of living, only found out that the park itself seems to be quite nice. So my question is, does anyone know if there are any supermarkets, cafés, restaurants etc. around Pond Park? I mean, except for Al Barsha Mall which seems to be just a walk away. Or is it a rather deserted area except for the park? What about public transport? I don't plan to buy a car, at least not immediately, so availabilities of cabs and connection to the metro would be good to have. I have also been looking at apartments in the area right behind MOE which might be better in terms of connection to public transport, but living next to a park sounds promising too :-) Thanks in advance for any insight! Discovery Gardens, JLT and at a push The Greens however for the last 2 prepare to pay around 70-80k for a studio!!!!! Tecom is cheap however many buildings are poorly maintained. I wasn't aware there were any apartments near Barsha Park and thought they were all villas ( Feel free to correct me) I work at DIFC and live at the Greens although my building is now 105,000 for a one bed! It takes me 15-20 mins to get to and from work

Congrats on your pregnancy. I'm pretty sure that if you've lived in dubai for 5 years and not been paying tax/national insurance in the UK, you'll not be entitled to free NHS care. I know someone who had exactly the same plans as you (ante natal in Dubai, NHS delivery in UK) and was presented with a bill because she was not entitled (due to the residency issue). Maybe someone else can give you more info, but make sure you research this very carefully. All the best Your are right, although If you are registered with a DR at home and have a national insurance number and UK address they rarely check! That is why so many non residents give birth there for free. Most DRs will take you off their list after a few years and they will question why you aren't having your scans in the UK ( Squeeky bum time) I don't agree with people gaining free care when they are no longer residents however its your choice entirely

Stupid woman! All recruiters should follow up with feedback after an interview. On occasion we have to chase clients for feedback as they only give a no and no reason why ( Very frustrating) The only time we cannot give feedback is when we send a CV and a candidate isn't shortlisted. It is very unprofessional of recruiters to not keep in touch after an interview and they give others a bad name. I have had recrutiters contact me from Linkedin etc and interview me and then not even bother to let me know that i have not been selected It isn't something I will ever do Izzy. The UAE is a small place and we rely on referrals etc

Hello ladies, I have a friend who's been looking for work for the last few months. So far she's had two interviews. In both cases there were the preliminary phone calls/emails before the interview in person and everyone was very polite and friendly. She followed up with a thank you email. But then heard nothing. She sent a polite inquiry email two weeks after each interview, but still didn't get a response, even only to say thank you very much but we've found someone else. Is that lack of communication from HR/hiring managers common out here? I would think that if you bring in someone for an interview then at least you'd have the courtesy to notify them afterwards if they didn't make the cut, instead of leaving them hanging. I too had an interview with a reputable local company at their HQ building once. I was very disappointed how the HR representative (Senior Talen Acquisition Executive) was very active in communicating the phone with emails to follow up when enquiring and arranging interview.... But once the interview was over, I could not even get the person to reply phone and email whether I was still in the running for the second round of interview. I spaced out my 2 follow up phone calls and emails and was even worried for a short while if she had changed jobs or was not well even. Hello Does anyone know of a good company to use to replace the nets on fly screens? Ours are rubbish and just keep popping out of the side seals and also getting ripped easily. They are essentially doing nothing and I'm fed up of being bitten! Thanks! I found a guy through ringing Jim Will Fix it. They recommended someone but I have since thrown the number away. They charged 100AED and did them in 30 minutes

i'm also getting reviews/quotes for having this procedure done. dr mani quoted me dhs.35,000. dr viel quoted less. dr khan is very popular so he is next on my list. sarahlou123, do you mind me asking a question? you are very happy with the results but in one thread you said in hindsight you wish you had gone a little bigger. may i ask what CC implants you got? thanks I didn't want to go bigger. I was an B cup and am not a petite girl so looked odd shaped Initially when I went for the consultation he looked at a C/D cup but put the wrong size implants in when we were trying the size. I ended up with a DD. After coming round from the operation and seeing them I was in shock as they looked enormous however this was due to the swelling. Once they had gone down I was ecstatic. I wouldn't of been able to go any bigger due to the skin and rippling effect. I had 2 days off work and no painkillers at all. We went under the muscle so the stiches were barely visible and have all but faded now. The only thing I struggled with was the itching! as forgot I was in a public place at times and starting scratching lol Dr Khan and his team was amazing. I went to the Belhoul in Satwa as it was cheaper than the American Hospital. I couldn't of asked for better care from any of them from the nurse who looked after me post care and the wonderful anaethatist ( cant spell it) whom Dr Khan joked about as he is an older gentleman. I would recommend anyone to see Dr Khan I cannot remember the CC size sorry just the cup if that makes sense. Hello, I will be traveling to dubai for a holiday in july with my severely disabled son (8yrs old) who is in a wheelchair and would appreciate if anyone can help me with the following: 1) where/what attraction can we go with him that is wheelchair friendly apart from the shopping malls and beach (staying at Palm Tree Court hotel at Jebel Ali) 2) does anyone know of a good nursing/homecare agency that would be able to look after my son while we (husband and other kids) do activities which he will not be able to do eg safari, cruise etc Any other advise to make things easier?
