I liked Only Fools and Horses, loved Open All Hours. I think the only one I did not really take to was One Foot in the Grave. It was funny, but the end was silly. Amy have you watched Last Tango in Halifax I am on the final season ( only 2) and it is fabulous Such talented actors

Hello lovely ladies of Dubai! Oh, how I've missed you :) We have just been given notice that our house will be ready for handover in two weeks, and as such as planning to fly into Dubai from Singapore (where we now currently live) for the handover. We plan on putting our property on the rental market, however, considering we live in Singapore, we will need to hire a property management firm to manage this for us. If any of you wonderful ladies could recommend such a firm we would greatly appreciate it. Preferably one that offers a one stop shop solution, including landscaping if possible. Also, just in case, can you recommend any landscapers who can come in and do a decent job at a reasonable price? Also any landlord tips would be much appreciated. During our time in Dubai, we've always sat on the other side of the table, so any words of advice or tips would be much appreciated. ;) and Last but not least what to do in Dubai with two girls aged 5 and 3 years? As for me, I'm definitely going to get my lebanese food and shisha fix!! And does a slice of the Lime Tree Cafe carrot cake still feed a small army?! congrats on your purchase. but please be aware as Tattle said- handover sometimes takes weeks to months, depending on municipality and respective developers.... Try Gulf Platinum Properties to help you with your rental They are based around that area and are very professional

Thank you for that! I'm coming from London and from advice will probably stock up on some good sun tan lotion/make up and loose fitting quality clothing! Certain toiletries are not found here and things like johnsons makeup wipes are 3 times more expensive from home My list when I go home is Silvikrin Hairspray Batiste Dry Shampoo Practically all makeup as it is more expensive here ( MAC, Clinique etc) Certain deoderants as some must contain alcohol Johnsons facewipes Moisturisers which contain the tan ( Johnsons holiday sun) Tampax Perfume Clothes I order online or shop through Aramex Shop and Ship Suntan lotion

Hi there, please can someone help me with the answers to these questions. Can a SA National obtain visa on arrival at UAE? Can a SA National obtain visa on arrival in Egypt? Can a SA National obtain visa on arrival in all GCC countries or only pre arranged visas (assuming no UAE residence visa). Can a SA National extend their visit visa after 30 days has expired in UAE? Does anyone have recent experience of a SA National obtaining a UK visa, how long did it take? Thank you. UAE, no you have to apply before you arrive, Oman pay on arrival and valid for 2 weeks Google will throw up lots of information for you to look at on this subject edited by sarahlou123 on 09/04/2014

Thank you for your response! I guess I will either have to pay up or wait till I go back home. bummer! But thank you for the suggestions for doctors, I will look them up! :) I am a fan of Radiesse fillers but here they are 2500AED My friend at home has trained to do them and she only charges cost which is only 3750 huge difference. Cobone does sometimes have offers and I did see one for Dysport recently which was reduced but i called the clinic and a dermatologist administers the product and i am wary of letting them do it here

HI, I AM NEW TO DUBAI AND JUST MOVED HERE FROM THE UNITED STATES. I HAVE BEEN CALLING AROUND PLACES IN DUBAI FOR BOTOX PRICING AND IT SEEMS LIKE EVERYONE CHARGES PER AREA INSTEAD OF PER UNIT. IN THE UNITED STATES I ONLY PAID $10-12 PER UNIT AND ONLY GOT 20 UNITS. DOES ANYONE HAVE A CONTACT FOR BOTOX HERE IN DUBAI? I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT! THANK YOU. It is really expensive here. Prepare to pay anything from 1500-1800AED for full face Stay away from the cheap places as they use watered down stuff The only 2 surgeons I have used here are Dr Rezai at Dubai Healthcare City. He uses Allergan Dr Khan who uses Dysport which is the best one I have mine done when I visit home as it is half the price of the UAE

Hi, In Dubai I can recommend the Fish and Chips room at JBR and a friend has told me that Bobs Fish and Chips at Dubai Marina is awesome (both just like home) although I havent sampled (yet). In AD Coopers at Park Rotana used to be really good, not been in a long time. Heard great things about Gary Rhodes Fish and Chips at St Regis on Corniche, they do this on a Thursday night. Bobs is okay but don't get them to deliver as cold they are yuk ;-)

Hey everyone, I am still in the stage of preparing myself before the big move to Dubai. Could you give me some advice on which websites you started using on a regular basis, in order to organize your life? During my research I came across websites such as Groupon Dubai, Food-On-Click,... however there must be many more (e.g. to order bottles of water, or things that I am not even thinking about). Which websites have become one of your favorites? Looking forward to hearing from all of you. Aramex shop and ship :-) Water bottles are ordered by registering with company and leaving the empties outside your apartment or villa with the cash

I hate it when stores ask me for a dirham. Even if I have a dirham, I say no. What's the issue with giving them a dirham if you have it? Because they ask you whether they need it or not, essentially hoarding coins. The shop downstairs from me never has coins. Although when at home I always ask if they want coins so what is the difference then handing them over here

I would be more concerned about being able to survice on that salary - it is really really low. Wow you must spend a helluva a lot of money if you think 15000 salary is low. I think we should let the OP compare her cost of living to the income, consider other benefits that she's getting (like living allowance), consider her current income and years of experience, and then reach a decision on her own whether the salary is low for her or not (depending on her situation). None of us can tell her that the salary is low or right for her because everyone has a different situation. For example, you might require renting a villa but she might be okay with a 1-br apartment. you might have a school-age child and need to send her to a top Western school that charges you AED 10,000 per month while she might have an infant that requires a full-time live-in nanny but doesn't need to go to school just yet. So let's stop with such statements. They make you seem jealous! Love, i am far from jealous. 15k to cover all expenses for you and a child is not much..... and Abu Dhabi is a LOT more expensive than Dubai. I couldn't agree more and I am single with no kids living in Dubai. I don't spend like a millionaire and would struggle on that amount especially with the rents/cost of food/utilities etc A 1/3 of my wage goes on my rent and I don't live in a posh area. . If the OP received a housing allowance and schooling on top of AED15000 then that would make the difference. How does being honest about a total package of AED15000 for self and child living in Abu Dhabi make Izzy sound jealous?

Just to update an old thread, I called and now their monthly membership is AED409 (for access to just the Oasis centre branch), and if you go off-peak hours from 6am till 3pm it's AED359 (or AED349, cant remember). Registration fee is AED 249 for today only (but they usually say that to pressure you to join!) I'm considering signing up again, I used to love their Bodybalance classes and it words out cheaper than going to Real Pilates or other places, since I would go about 2-3 times a week. I did not, however, like how pushy their sales people were and how much they annoy you when you want to quit by charging ridiculous fees, and that you stilll have to pay even when you want to freeze membership for a month :\ edited by sourskittleashnut on 08/04/2014 70 quid a month for a gym WOW

Hi ladies, I have had a live-out maid for the last 3-4 months. Everything is working out ok and she seems to like working for us. She lives with her family 10 min walk from us, has a ok salary which she says she is content with and friday-saturday of. Now I have reasons to suspect that she has been working extra on the weekends. I'm not sure, but small things ads up and I feel very lost. I asked her today about it and her reaction made me even more suspicius. But of course she denied it. What would you do in my situation? Just go on like usual until/and if I find out? And if I get evidens that she has been working extra, what to do then? Get rid of her. If she is moonlighting and gets caught as her sponsor you will incur a huge fine!

Oh my we had the same thing when I lived in a compound villa where the children would play outside at 5 – 6pm and the couple next door ( no children ) would complain that they have just come home from work and would like some peace and quiet ! Unfortunately, it went from bad to worse and we moved out  After living next door to a wannabe vampire for 2 years who came awake at 1am every night of the week and cooked her food on the balcony ( Don't ask) clomped around, banged doors, shouting, vacuuming, using the blender etc etc. I welcomed the children that have moved in They can scream all day if they want ( They do) but come 10pm it is silent :-)

If you live in a flat over a night club do you ask them to turn off the music at 9 pm? How about a villa next to a busy road; ask the cars to divert during your siesta? A compound pool means kids which means noise. They chose the location, they need to live with it. Well said!
