Is there such a thing anymore? What on earth would it teach? "Get me coffee from Starbucks?" There is a lot to learn in it, Secretary is not all about bringing coffes, it relates to Administration also. I have done one but it was a short one, I am looking into learning more. I would brush up on Excel, PP and Pivot Tables A lot of my clients expect this to be spot on and it is amazing the amount of candidates who say there are advanced level and when testes fail

I have the online transfer from my account. No receipt as I have never been / seen their shop. Was through a reference and worked ok the last time 1 year back. I am going to start by calling the DED, next step debating between going to the police vs writing to Gulf News. Would the Police get involved in this matter? ( Innocent question)

We used a travel agency to process visas for my inlaws. After 2 weeks of promising to get the visa the next day, it never happened. DH and I went to the immigration office and got the visa ourselves after asking them to cancel the application. This was in Jan. Its not a huge amount but this travel agency has kept making promises to send the refund and never did. The owner now refuses to pick up my calls. On principle, I want to teach this guy a lesson. Is there a small claims court in Dubai? Or should I go to the police station and make a formal complaint? I am fuming...... Have you spoken to the DED don't they govern the retail places here?

I am looking to get a new (either new or second hand I'm not fussy) car but I just can't decide what I want! A year and a half ago my Pajero was written off when I was T-boned by a large bus on SZK and since then I have been driving a lease Tiida and trying to decide what car I want to purchase. Anyway long story short I still haven't decided and have test driven pretty much everything going :-) which has just made me even more indecisive...opps! I have managed to decide that I would like to have another 4x4, am not willing to go above 200k dhs and would have trouble finding parking big enough for a Ford 150 Raptor (which I apparently looked hilarious test driving as I am resonably petit) but thats about it. So my question to you is, do you own or have you driven a 4x4 that you loved and if so what was it and why did you love it? Thanks ladies My work colleague has a Porsche but his family car is an Explorer and he said he wouldn't drive any other 4x4 Hope this helps

I was at brands for less shop, and seen the shop assistants allow shoppers to take under were into the fitting rooms! I asked if any body supervisor or shop manger to speak with this, as I showed this is not hygienic (sorry for grammar mistakes) standard at all, no body is there and only shop assistants so I told them why on earth allow shoppers to try on underwear? then the usual answer it's what the shoppers wants! Just wanted to tell everybody who do shopping there to be aware of this practice. I've tried on underwear and bikini bottoms etc here and in the UK? Over my pants if that makes sense. I have never been stopped by assistants

Moved here less than a month ago. With high hopes my husband would like the new job, we would find a house quickly and start the job of settling in. Husband doesn't like the job. Not good! Haven't found a house. I know we will. However, I have a sinking feeling in my stomach, that feels just like anxiety. A knot. Wondering what have we done? Moved from Australia (Irish nationality), but feel like if I don't get out of this temporary accommodation quickly we will never start settling. I am already bored of the mall and the pool. I have a 3 year old son who is missing the freedom he had before we moved, and missing his little friends. The lack of proper stimulation for him at the moment is making me feel guilty. I can't help wondering what will happen if my husband doesn't knuckle down to his job. How many people have the luxury of either loving their profession or company? Don't most people just get on with it? For a while at least. Am I asking too much? I haven't worked since my son was born. Feeling totally out of it at the moment. My husband will be sponsoring my visa. How do I get a visa that will allow me to work? Hope everything settles down soon. I know that it takes time, but I just have a bad feeling. Does everyone feel like this at the start. The lost in Dubai expression keeps popping into my mind. When I moved here in 2006 it took me 6 months to a year to settle and there were many times I wanted to hot foot it back on the next plane to the UK Finding a job you like, a nice place to call home and good friends is half the battle Over the years I have been ready to leave but then someone pulls me back to stay ( Usually when I have been home for a visit at Xmas as it is sooo cold and depressing) You have to give it a least 6 months to a year and then go from there

It is the rent that is a killer. One beds in the old Greens are up to 90-100k now! 2 Beds 120-125k a month. I am here alone and spend a fortune on food and only shop in C4 and Choitrhams for P@@k. Petrol and Salik is 200AED a month, Basic TV and internet is almost AED500 a month My district cooling is paid however not all accomodation is. That with housing fee is over AED500 So in short for one person here with no children Rent AED5000 a month Bills AED1200 a month Car AED300 a month ( I own mine so no loan or hire car fee add at least another AED2000 a month for that) Food AED1500 can be more if I buy a lot of UK branded stuff Hair AED300 a month Nails AED250 That comes to AED8550 and I haven't started on clothing, toiletries, going out and a small amount on a C/C Car insurance is paid as a one off here and is a % of the cost of your car I send alot of money home and try to live on as little as possible however the costs in Dubai are rising especially food and rents.

You can hire one from the UK My friend was married unaccompanied to a guy here and she knew he was messing around She hired a guy from the UK to watch him arrive at Dubai airport after a supposed business trip. Needless to say he came through the airport with the girl he was cheating with. He took pics and it was used in her divorce case in the UK. When they were handed over to him he nearly fainted as he was adamant he hadn't cheated. I am always suspicious of people with passwords on their phone but that's me

Ladies, your advice please. I have recently interviewed a few maids for live-in (Sri Lankan) who came with excellent references from their previous employers. I called the references personally. The maids arrived with their husbands for the interview, and asked if the husband could share accommodation. Initially I was very uncomfortable with this, but one of the reference said she preferred this in the end, as the maid stayed home more, and she also recommended the husband. The husbands in both cases would have their own visa, and their own jobs. I have said that the husband would be expected to do the gardening and odd jobs around the house in exchange for the accommodation. I would sponsor the maid on my visa if she were to work for us. I have offered the 2nd maid the job - initially on a trial basis, one to see if she actually turns up, and to see if she works out. Afraid I can't see any related posts. Is having the husband stay a common practice? What advice would you offer to make the situation work? The 2nd maid has said she is on a tourist visa, with 2 weeks remaining - do I need her to do a visa run, while I begin processing the visa? Thank you! I thought this was illegal? Perhaps the OP can be more specific

I was just thinking about posting this very topic, this is great. I'd love to know if anyone has any more good suggestions for removing rather than concealing them tho?? I like the sound of the tomato thing but just not sure how practical it would be and if id stick to it! Thanks everyone. My friend from home had hers done in Brussels, they pulled the lower skin against the muscle which removed the dark circles. Down time was a week and they look great!

I'm a makeup artist so I can recommend something in terms of concealing but not as a treatment. Also, someone mentioned using a hemorrhoid cream - this only works for puffiness around the eyes. I use mac concealers on most of my jobs, and a lot of my clients have very heavy dark circles and mac concealers seem to work really well. They have shade in NC and NW. NW will neutralise dark blue areas. In general NW is for warm undertones and NC for cool undertones. So it depends on the color of your dark circles. They're around 75 dhs I believe. You can also try makeup forever. I've heard good things about their concealers but have been using macs for years so I feel comfortable. Also whatever concealers you use, remember a little actually goes a long way. Avoid using your fingers to apply as you're basically just wiping it off, a sponge is a waste of product as it absorbs way too much product so a brush always work well. And blending helps conceal more. Hope that was helpful Makeup forever does some great concealers although I am a Touch Eclait fan and brushes are best :-)

Was exhausted doing the ironing last night so I only ironed the fronts of my husband's trousers. I figure he'll never know and it cut the ironing time in half. Is this efficient time management or slovenly housewifery? Fantastic !! I only used to iron the front of shirts as wearing a jacket you couldn't see the sleeves and back hahaha

Anything official attest it You can come in on a visit visa which is valid for 40 days. If your visa isn't processed by then you can do a visa run to Oman ( Lots of people do this) Are his company sorting out your sponsorship or do you have to do it yourself? If you do find work whilst on a visit visa you don't have to go onto hubbies visa you can go onto a company sponsorship also. I wouldn't stress yourself out over it at all. Things are much easier to do whilst he is here and his company will have a PRO who can advise and help

Hi Does anyone know where I can get Chinese pancakes? I've never seen them in the supermarkets here though haven't really looked before, I'm doing a roasted duck this weekend and thought having it with pancakes and hoisin sauce would be a bit of a change as I normally do it with either plum sauce and fried rice or as a duck l'orange. Have looked at a recipie as I love cooking but seems like a lot of hassel when there will be just two of us eating. I would try Spinneys/Waitrose/Lulus

I know it's been a long time since I updated on my car situation, sorry - it's really got me down in the dumps :( Anyway, I took my car to Dexxol over the weekend and the manager there managed to explain things to me in girl talk.... basically saying that my car is stuffed! There is some special coding or something that only VW can do (apparently) however Dexxol can help me out by taking the car in and handling it all themselves - taking it to VW and dealing with them directly etc. It's still going to cost me between AED15-20k to fix. Anyone know of a scrapyard that gives good prices??? Oh no :-( Cant help with the scrap yard. Which model do you have. Is it worth trying to sell it and take off the cost of the repair and then at least you may make some money back
