They have Tinkerbell costumes in the Party Zone in Mirdif (the one next to the small Spinneys just off 47 street) and in Hamleys in Mirdif City Centre....pretty expensive though...nearly 200 dirhams....

A shop called Canterbury in Festival City has them, but be prepared to haemorrhage money....also seen the knock off ones in Drangonmart...where you'll save money, but lose a small piece of your mind :)

We went last night and my 5 year old loved it...as did I :) Would only suggest you go super early if you want a VIP ticket (ringside) as they were sold out 1 hour before. The other seats are fine....just go in half an hour before so you get a seat on the aisle so your little one can see :)

My mom used to keep my clip on tie from falling off by sewing a loop of elastic onto it which fitted round my neck under my collar like a real tie would.....obviously not too tight, but i never lost my tie :) HTH

Rainforest Cafe is one of my DD's favourite places to eat...however I find it super expensive (60 dirhams for a salad??) and the food is mediocre at best - never have the burger...bleurgh. The "shows " are super cool, though. All the animatronic animals go ape(in some cases quite literally ) and there's an Aztec arch which lights up and changes colours. All accompanied by rainforest type thunder and lightening :) Very entertaining. My little one is entranced and sits through a whole meal for once :) Having said that, I have seen some children crying and cowering under the tables as for younger ones it can be quite overwhelming and frightening. The service is also a bit hit and miss. But all in all a unique experience :) I know what you mean about the adults in there though. Have often seen people have business meetings in there??? Very odd :)

*happy dance for you* :) My nephew's friend has just done this for a visit to us. We had to send his travel agent in SA an e-mail saying that we knew he was going to be staying with us and giving my DH's visa and passport number and our physical address. Then the visa was done by the travel agent. HTH

Our cheapest movers were about 1 500...but twas a bit disasterous as they packed the contents of my deep freeze in a box marked curtains, and the curtains in a cooler box...And the most expensive was 2800. This was for moving a 3 bedroom villa with outside furniture and stuff around. The real costs are the deposits for dewa, du, etisilat, agent's fees...blah, blah, blah...

I have seen it in Carrefour and Lulu in Barsha...not always where you think it would be (with spices)...In Lulu it was with the Mexican food for reasons best known to their shelf packers :). And in Carrefour was with the spices but behind a pillar :) If you really can't find it you can just use ordinary paprika...you just lose a little of the added flavour smoked would give you :)

I find the biggest battles (and tantrums) are always connected to food or meal times...I think it's the first thing they realise they have any control over. All the decisions in their lives are made for them and refusing food or throwing food is usually their way of showing you that you are not the boss of them :) Biting mommy is also really common...just watch him round other children (and adults) and he'll soon grow out of this too. Remember that he's little and he is learning his place in it, so behaviour like this is not always "being naughty" but just him seeing what works and what doesn't. I get through phases like this by repeating the mantra "I am a good mommy...this too shall pass" Hope this helps :)

Plenty normal , I'm afraid.Although biting isn't a good thing and should be discouraged, the temper and rage is understandable. Little people begin to have their own thoughts, likes and dislikes and want to make their own decisions at about this age...but have no real communication skills...hence the frustration and rage. My DD used to howl when she didn't get her own way...not pleasant in a nice peaceful coffee shop :) Don't despair...this too shall pass :)

My 4 year old does this at least 3 times a week. Comes into my room and does the toddler stage whisper, "Mommy wake up! But be quiet cause daddy's sleeping" :) I don't think there's much you can do, as fluffyfrank says it's a phase and we can only hope they're not still doing it when they're 18 :)

They sell nativity sets and statues of Mary and other Christian figures in Lulus at Christmas time, so I don't think that'll be a problem at all. I must agree with simpleasabc, people tend to exaggerate about what is allowed and what is not.

Birds of Prey on Khawaneej road in Mirdif is lovely...but doesn't hold the interest of a 2 year old for long :) Lots of fun stuff to do in Mushrif Park too and uses up abundant 2 yaer old energy :)

No no no...it's a terrible, cramped and depressing place. The smell and the sadness of the animals will haunt you for months... Lots of better places for 2 year olds. Al Ain Zoo is marvelous for a day out. The aquarium in the Dubai mall (and the underwater zoo) is my daughters favourite place in Dubai.

I have delayed the madness that is the malls, but my friends tell me that Oasis Centre has lovely decorations up and other Christmas related stuff. I love the tree in MOE myself, but, as with all other malls, most of the activities seem to start in the late afternoon or evening.

Ikea opens at 10am. They have the easels, but they have a blackboard on one side and a whiteboard on the other. The big rolls of paper are still there too, but n ot sure if you can attach them?

Camel races are great fun. Take place in the mornings and afternoons (although a friend tells me there may be some in the evenings too) on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays during "winter" ;). I took some visitors to Nad El Sheba (just off Dubai-Al Ain Road)...sorry I can't give better directions, but my husband was driving so i wasn't paying much attention :) Was great fun. My daughter got to ride a camel and feed one lovely gentle camel. Everyone very friendly and of course, lots of camel photo ops, which tourists love...enjoy :)

Children's City in Creekside park is good for a morning or afternoon out. Malik Burger is open inside too and children can eat there without a problem. The Aquarium in Dubai Mall is good for a few hours distraction too. We are always here over the summer when all our friends flee to cooler climes and it is a bit mind numbingly dull for mommies, but survivable :) Lots of playdoh, painting, pasta necklaces, dress up, puppets, treasure hunts.....zzzz.....etc. Good luck, not long now :)

Most supermarkets have the mini-bases in the freezer section, usually by the samoosas and spring rolls. Alternatively you could use tortillas :) edited by Schmoo on 03/08/2011

Aah...I bought my last pack a month ago when my DD finally decided that nappies were not for her (hooray!), but from what I can remember they were about AED 20 for a pack of 15. I might be a few dirhams out but that's more or less what they were. Can't be much different now. I also sometimes used Huggies Little Walkers (size xl, I think). Slightly more expensive but with chic little heart design that disappears when wet so useful for potty training :) Spinneys never seemed to have a vast array of Pampers pull ups, but the big supermarkets always did.

There are 3 vouchers in the Entertainer Kids...the Family one might have more? I think it'd be worth it as you'd probably use some of the other vouchers with guests too.

I always use Marhaba for my mom and aunts. None of them can walk long distances and are nervous travellers. I book the Diamond service (about AED 300) and they are met as they get off the plane and taken by golf cart through all the arrival formalities and delivered to us at the Marhaba lounge or arrivals. Never had a problem and I think the old dears get a real kick from being greeted like VIP's.

You could try Kindermusic. My LO loves it. Music, dancing singing, musical instruments....great fun! And there's a class near you in Umm Suquem. The new term starts on Jan 15th.
