Sorry, but I have flown garuda, and found them to be great, and all I can say is, you will pay more if you *must* have luxury and thumb your nose up at airlines like garuda. Thumbing my nose at their lack of safety - Yep! No WAY will I ever get on Garuda again - sometimes having a little insider information can terrify you ;)

I add my vote FOR Malarone and AGAINST mefloquine, from personal and professional experience! Never had a problem with Malarone / Malarone Junior. Interesting that you say professional experience. I realise that of course you cannot state what it is you do and your opinion directly relating to that, but my doctor told me that he never had a true idea how heinously bad the side effects were for Mefloquine until he took it himself. He simply won't prescribe it now.

I took Mefliquine and it was a truly horrendous experience! I was so dizzy that I fell over in Dubai Mall, onto a mannequinn and pulled over a clothes rack trying to right myself. I looked drunk! I was nauseous, dizzy and so so so vague. I stopped taking it after the first tablet (you take one a week) but the side effects lingered for days. NEVER again!

I've definitely bought Twisties from both Milk and Honey on the Palm and fromDubai Garden Centre. The nearest I've found to Cheezels are Big Rings but they aren't 'yellow' enough to suffice :( Now, onto a much more important item- BURGER RINGS! Has anyone seen any in their travels?

They are out of control! Even though we are gold Skywards members and therefore travel EK wherever possible, there is no way I can justify 8000dhs for an economy class seat when I can go Cathay for 4790. Admittedly there is a bleurgh transfer in Hong Kong but when travelling without the kids I can tolerate it for the saving.

sarah is moving back to Brisbane shortly so not sure she can help you sweets. We have not seen her professionally- she is one of my friends SIL. The waitlists for speech therapy in Dubai are horrendus- trust me!! I can help you by telling which ones to avoid. In our never ending quest for a ST we have been ripped off left right and centre by centres offering 'evaluations'. Try and call Kids First on Al Wasl Rd right near the gas station. They run an excellent course called "It Takes Two to Talk' which is part of the Hannan program. It goes for 10 weeks and it is primarily for the parents to attend and practice the exercises at home with the child. We did this whilst we wait on the therapy wait lists. Be prepared to walk in with your wallet open... and walk out with it empty no matter where you go. If you want to chat, you know where to find me :) (and not always just propping up the bar!) edited by Scotchanddiet on 05/03/2012

Yes. Food is lovely but not overwhelming. The sushi/sashimi was good. Service was good. Absolutely no atmosphere though- a Westin/Saffron/Yalumba it is not!

I would schedule a visit to do university tours of his top 4 choices in the US. After walking around the campus, seeing the lifestyle/Greek life/academics and general vibe of school in the US, he will come home here buzzing with excitement and will be fine. PS. Congrats on a possible acceptance to MIT! You must be extremely proud of him! Where else has applied? What are his safety schools?

My 7 year old has an American accent with a slight Arabic twist that I think comes from his Eygptian friends at school. The American part definitely comes from Disney Channel and he also has English accents on certain words based on his British School. He, by the way is Australian!! My 3 year old has a Filipino accent- no prizes for guessing where that comes from!! My husband and I both have Australian accents, although mine does switch into a slight American accent, with a Southern drawl when I'm very drunk or very tired as that is where I was educated. It doesn't bother us at all. We sure do get some looks when we are travelling though as you can see people trying to work us out!!

We have used them and their 'sister' company Aussie Property and they are *fabulous*. They are especially good at maximising future tax credits if you plan on ever returning to Australia. They do personal tax returns for Australians and also do investing mortgage broking etc.

We are in our third year at JBR and love it! I bet you will too. We love being so close to the action, close to the beach (you can certainly get there without crossing any roads from the PL level), shops, cafes, bars/hotels (at the Hilton, Movenpick, Rotuna etc) and great areas for our kids to play downstairs. No traffic worries as we are never on The Walk itself- access to our parking is via the back road. We can easily get a cab simply by walking out the front door- we never need to call for one. Maintainence is good once you have them come the first time- then get the little dude's mobile number and sms him direct for any other issues. The security guards in the building know everything- who is coming and going and who belongs where. I feel a sense of security knowing that. The car parks at the north most ends (Murjan, Sadaf and Bahar) and I think the next few are secure. No pass/security tag= no entry. No expat wave will get you in anymore. Ditto to the pools- you need a swipe card to unlog the gates. Has made finding a lounger a lot easier since they introduced that ;) I bet you will love it Plum Tree!

Yes- the Nippers are active at the Umm Sequem public beach each Friday morning. A mix of Aussies, Kiwis and Saffas. Such an awesome program and I wish my kids were just a little stronger at swimming so we could go. Such an embarrassment having 'Aussie' kids that aren't super strong swimmers by age 6! At 'home' we'd be hung, drawn and quartered for it! Ah well... all in good time

Thanks Amelia- I did try there but not much. I also tried Harvey Nicks but they were..um... targeted towards a certain body type let's say! I am guessing I could try the online option but with swimwear I reckon it is one of those things you need to try on. Anyone else have suggestions?

I clearly lost my mind yesterda too and ventured to IKEA (glad I did though to get the Xmas stuff that is selling out fast) and JBR, The Walk.. Oh my goodness I have never seen so many people down there! Was there Christmas stuff other than that at the front of the market hall by the check-outs? Wasn't tempted by anything I saw-which is unusual for me! There were some pretty glasses in the kitchen section (every day drinking glasses, some champagne glasses and wine glasses) and some really pretty cake tins too (White and grey snowflakes). There were the usual napkins and holders, wrapping paper and bags, candles, star lights etc. I love my cake tins!

I don't know how much a seatbelt or any other safety precaution would do if one drives a 160km down szr anyway.Perhaps it contains the mess? :\: iAMVP. Please fix your quote above. The way you have cut and pasted and quoted, you have made it look like I have written the above.

It is really something to potentially lose a good friend over? I wouldn't say anything. Firstly, you don't even know if the car was parked in the drive or doing 160km down SZR. secondly, it may have been a small oversight, a one off and something that wouldn't happen again. Haven't we all had a slip up and done something (even inadvertently) that we swore we'd never do? Obviously you have your own 'deal breakers' when it comes to friendships but personally for me, unless it was *my* child unbuckled, I wouldn't say anything. The are of course, other behaviours I'd end a friendship over... Everyone has their break points.

I think every doctor that my family has seen at Dubai London Clinic has been excellent. We see Dr Barbara and Dr Nicola for general stuff and Dr Shola as a paediatric doctor. All are knowledgeable, friendly and don't rush you out the door without a full consultation. Big thumbs up

Ours is today and I've baked little cupcakes all individually wrapped with a bright ribbon. We usually get lots of homemade thing like cakes, cookies, cake pops, muffins etc. Whatever we don't sell, we give to the cleaning staff, teacher assistants and bus drivers at the school or to the builders across the road or nearby. It's a great fundraiser and one that everyone enjoys. Don't stress too much about what to donate as all contributions are welcomed with open arms. :)

Yea from a *** tape and being PH BFF blah! Not quite... Robert kardashian (snr) was a brilliant criminal defence lawyer. He successfully defended OJ Simpson and had him acquitted of a double murder charge. Kris Kardashian and Robert divorced not long after this as she was very close friends with Nicole Simpson- OJs former wife. She then started to manage her eldest daughters modelling career, helped the other two develop their fashion design house and chain of stores "Dash" and built the Kardashian empire incorporating reality shows, modelling careers and branding of the Kadashian and Dash names. Kim, Khloe, Robert Jr, Kylie and Kendall are all models in their own right, with Kourtney holding the stakes in the Dash retail chain.

Ohhh I'm really excited aout Britney!! Her latest songs from the Femme Fatale album are all fab. And I'm guessing her wareobe and costume changes will be good and so will the back up dancers. the Cult would be okay. Zso will Icubus although neither are bands I'd go out of my way to see. How I view it is that the concerts are the secondary act to racing and 2000aed for 3 days of the GP plus 4 concerts, plus e DJ 's etc is pretty reasonable. I would have loved it Beyonce returned this year or Eminim would have been totally awesome Also The Killers, Kings of Leo or Pink (she is a.m.a.z.I.n.g. In concert)

We do a few things to get into the Christmas spirit: We have an adults cocktail party (usually culminating in very bad karaoke) with silly reindeer ears, Santa hats and the like Then we do a family only thing and head to Wafi to see Santa, get the obligatory photo with him then we watch the light show outside which the kids love. Christmas day itself, my DH usually has to work (we he has the last 10 years! This year is off off OFF) we have a nice roast pork meal with all the trimmings, put out the good silverware and wedding crystal and do the present opening. This all wraps up with visiting other friends having the traditional expat 'orphans xmas' in the evening for drinks. I love Christmas here- your family can do whatever you want to celebrate without the usual stress of relatives or having to accommodate everyone in your plans and doing the mad dash across town to both sets of parents, grandparents etc. It's all about *your* little family.

Whilst it is not elocution lessons per say, there is a charter of ToastMasters here in Dubai that will certainly help. I have friends and former colleagues that have joined in the past (in other countries) and it is amazing how it boosted their confidence in speaking in public. I think they meet in Knowledge Village.
