We're thinking of putting down names for FS2 preferably. Any schools that are more Montessori in approach in Dubai? Any feedback most welcome.

thanks plum2, the new LL is being wonderful actually but thanks for asking. i'm aware of quite a few who "do a dodgy" to try and up the rent etc. we have just outgrown our apartment and would love the extra space of a villa. though happy for an older style even if a bit shabby.

i had my 8 week old baby after a 5 session course of hypnobirthing (marie mongan method). i did the course after reading marie mongan's book as it all seemed to "click". i cannot recommend it enough and it enabled me to have a calm, quiet and relatively pain free birth and most importantly to feel empowered and informed throughout. here is a link to an article about jasmine and hypnobirthing in time out. http://www.timeoutdubai.com/kids/features/27873-tales-from-the-delivery-room/page/2#.UPLpt2-R8sc

IMHO you should not chose your doctor based on your medical insurance but on the doctor that makes you feel the most comfortable and the one that can help you have the kind of birth that YOU want. if possible meet with a few doctors and select based on who feels right and gives you all the time in your appointment you need to ask any questions you may have. congratulations on your pregnancy and remember that birth is a very personal experience...not everyone will feel the same way about a doctor as you. though in saying all that, i had dr raj at american and even though she didn't make it to my birth (quick one) i would recommend her without hesitation.

id be interested to know as well. started cloth nappies (dry bin) 3 weeks ago with our newborn and found a green bin with a flip lid that has a frog on it from carrefour- thought it was quite cute. we also have a toddler and so far it's been ok. though it's a little small for every 2 day washing. lockable lid would be preferable - we're using bambino mio and i see they have a cute diaper pail on amazon but it looks quite small - there are lots on amazon so maybe that's the way to go?

we traveled in sri lanka with our son who was the same age at the time. i would second the recommendation to take a carseat - we took our maxi cosi capsule and after asking repeated times about seatbelts in our rental van with driver it still came without seatbelts. it may be worth pushing that point. i'm not sure you'll have luck getting the carseat there - we got mainly odd looks with ours. driving took up a lot of our trip so you want to make sure your LO is comfortable. as far as eating we were starting to put ds on solids but kept it very simple - bananas and yoghurt and maybe plain rice...steering clear of anything risky. it's a great age to travel and great that your bf ing - makes it so much easier on the plane etc. we took the bugaboo base for the maxicosi and barely used it - just used our ergo carrier. looking back i would have done a lightweight umbrella stroller but we could have made do with just the carseat and carrier. have a fantastic trip - sounds like you will be well looked after with your friend's family....i'm quite jealous :)

last few times we stayed in amsterdam we stayed on houseboats on the canal. first time before kids with a gorgeous little terrace where we fed swans and second time w a toddler which was fully enclosed and safer. cannot recommend it enough...especially as you can shop for food in local markets/supermarkets and be self sufficient. it's super central for tourist activities and you can get a "feel" for living in the city which you might miss out on in a hotel. we used these guys who also hire bikes http://www.frederic.nl/en/ they were professional and so helpful finding us a doctor when our toddler got sick :( so incredibly jealous you're thinking of moving there...i only know amsterdam but a friend of mine says the hague is a great place to live. very best of luck to you!

i have spoken to one if the organisers of the event who assured me they had their hands tied with not knowing which day the "dry/ no entertainment day" would fall on before planning the schedule. we went last year and our DS loved it...the balloon artists are pretty phenomenal. it must have been such a shame to let the kids down and sorry to hear they were so upset :( there are a few days left though so i would definitely suggest it as a fantastic eid activity.

hi zuniya123 there are lots of great threads already on what to pack for the hospital, just use the EW search function. as far as what your hospital provides, it's best you ask them directly as each hospital differs in what is supplied free of charge. i am delivering at american hosp so did a tour with their head midwife and she detailed inclusions in our package. it might be safer to take what you think you'll need rather than be wanting anything. if it's bub no 2 then i'm sure you have a feeling for what you'll need for the baby for the stay.

so funny...nope DS' birthday is on the 10th (we're celebrating a week early) and i'm due on the 10th so if bub comes on time they'll be exactly 2 years apart eeek. im hoping bub is comfy in there and they wont have the same birthday. but a healthy bub is of course the main concern. best of luck to you!

good job re-starting the thread ummshamsa. wow not long to go till 2 to juggle for you! i have a dr app tomorrow so will see what she says but i'm hoping for a late arrival (due 10th) as i planned a bday party for the 2nd nov for my DS...risky but hope it pans out. if you all haven't heard already there is a baby bazaar market on next week at times square which looks like it will be a good one. all 2nd hand baby things. no doubt most of you are well organised but might be worth a look for some bargains. here is the fb event page link. https://www.facebook.com/events/432706803438004/?fref=ts

i'd go for nkd pizza for the food - they are so lovely and so much healthier than others on the market. pretty reasonably priced as well. another hire company to consider is http://www.catertech.ae though they are based in ras al khor so it may not be as convenient it may be a little bit cheaper overall if budget is an issue.

take exit heading towards dubai to the dubai mall...drive past emaar square...enter carpark at ground level...follow black signs to "at the top", parking is usually OK at this time. you will enter near a small waterfall and come in at the food court right next to the entrance of burj khalifa. hope that makes sense

glowingcandle the course i did was with certified hypnobirthing practitioner, Jasmine Collin who can be reached on [email protected] i agree it's probably a wee bit late but i'd say it would still be worth checking out the book with relaxation CD. jasmine is part of a group called "Be Empowered" who you can find on facebook. i went along to one of their open nights and met jasmine and some great doulas, reflexologists etc there. actually i just jumped on their page and they have an open night tonight (tues 16) at inspire nursery from 6.30-8. maybe check it out, it's a low key introduction to the concepts of natural birthing and they may be able to advise some options and might sell the books there. best of luck!

i've just finished a 6 week hypnobirthing course w jasmine and thought it was fantastic. though i've still got a few weeks to go i find i am more calm, prepared and excited about the arrival of baby 2. we bought our first marie mongan book (uk version) on amazon which comes with a relaxation cd but then we were given the US copy in the class included in the course price which we referenced throughout. the book is fantastic and a real eye opener to the whole process but i'd really recommend doing a course if you want your husband to be your bc (birth companion). it was such a special experience for my dh and i and well worth it.

last year we used a mini conifer tree we picked up at the dubai garden center as a christmas tree in the hope it would last for a few more years. it didn't survive past january but looked cute for christmas. another idea is to make a stylish wooden cut out tree from 2 pieces of wood that slide together. then you can use it over and over. http://uuldesign.com/home-decoration/re-useable-stylish-christmas-tree-alternative/

i was at dubai marina mall on the weekend and hit destination maternity and H & M. there was a sale on destination maternity so got some great casual tops and jeans. i agree with other posters that a lot of maternity clothing is super expensive so i was wrapped to get 3 tops and a pair of jeans for 350 dhs. they also have a new place called smitten which has some lovely maternity dresses.

hi all... just a quick note re ante natal classes. we delivered DS at city in 2010 and did their ante natal class and i highly recommend the classes if you're delivering at city. it is run by the head midwife, a fabulous sth african woman with guest visitors for different sessions. another benefit they told us about in 2010 is that if the normal maternity floor is full when you check in and you have attended ante natal at city, they will "upgrade" you to the VIP floor. it didn't happen for us but we also loved getting familiar with the hospital facilities and staff.

not sure about boiling sorry..but next time just wrap them whole with foil and add a tablespoon of water to let them steam in the foil in a moderate oven. usually 30 minutes is all you need..allow to cool, peel and yum, with all the goodness left in.
