i have 2 dds going into year 1 and 3, and i was hoping to maybe meet a few mums and their kids before term started. we are living in al jazi compound, but would love to meet up at city centre or another location. i would host a meeting at my house, but the shipment has not arrived yet so no furniture or toys! let me know if anyone is interested! only 10 days to go!!!!!

the dh will be disappointed. we used to drive from muscat to dubai just for ace hardware! it is just easier to visit one store and get everything :) does anyone drive to dubai from doha? or it is that just a crazy idea?!?!

hi again alycia78! just replied to you in another post. my advise would be to visit the compound office directly and then check with all estate agents. i hear it is a sought after area, especially for parents with kids going to DC WB. good luck!!! i hope we can be neighbours!!!

hi alycia78! my dds will be going to DC west bay as well! they will be in y1 and y3. how about your kids? it would be great to meet up in august when you are there. my husband's company got the villa for us, so sorry can't help in that area. good luck! it would be great to have kids in neighbourhood going to the same school.

great replies from everyone, thanks! have contacted zaks and they even said to wait to we arrive and then order. i just hope their is stock available once we get there. DC informed me that only the skort/skirt or trousers can be purchased from another store. the rest must be from zaks, including school bags. kimmmc3 funny you mention getting shoes from clarks. i told my dds we would go there for school shoes and they were thrilled! thanks for the suggestion on sports direct. alycia78, my dds are going to west bay campus as well. we will be living in al jazi and the school is literally around the corner. we might even be able to walk to school depending on the temperature. my dds are going into y1 and y3. how about your kids? one more question: suggestions for lunch boxes. when we were in oman i recall seeing kids with small cool boxes. is that the norm? thanks for all the replies!!!!

just a quick update. we were in doha over the weekend and saw the 2 villas available to us. in the end we, dh and dds decided to go for the house in al jazi. the girls preferred the pool! fingers crossed now that they get accepted at DC. luckily they were invited for assessments, now 2 weeks of waiting for a response!!!! thanks again for all your feedback! hopefully catch up with ladies in september at one of the coffee mornings!

hi weekirst! sorry but what do you mean by inhouse tv channels? is there no SKY tv or other cable company? i have never visited doha before so i have no idea about location as of yet. i would prefer to be near the school but that won't be finalised for a while. i hope when we visit in may the school will be selected then we can decide on the villa. hi dubaistars! yes, we have also applied to sherbourne. we have in fact to applied to 6 schools and hopefully 1 of them will confirm a place for both dds. have you selected your villa yet? how old are your kids? maybe we can catch up in august if you are in town. thanks again for the replies!!

We have already applied, but even the school said there are numerous applicants! Mind you most of the schools that we applied to have said the same. The idea to arrive in August was to try to get the family settled. In some ways, might be good if less traffic so I get familiar with the area. Do many kids go to school by bus??? Appreciate all your advise BEDH!

DC West Bay Campus is the plan. Most comments on this forum have been very positive about DC in general. We are hoping to get a look and see visit next month. We are scheduled to arrive in August, will anyone be around??

thanks for the update on DC! luckily i was able to get in touch and have had my applications applied to the new campus instead. i have also heard that current students will have the option to transfer to the new school. fingers crossed we get a spot at the school. good luck to all the other parents as well!

hi all! my dds have been accepted at gems wellington dos starting in september 2013. so far the only school to have accepted them...phew! i was wondering if i could get some feedback about the school, in particular Y1 and Y3. cheers
