Give Life Pharmacy a call. They have multiple branches in Dubai and carry an extensive list of medicine. They also have a 24 hour delivery service, so maybe they can locate and deliver one/all of those to you? The number is 04 3441122.

I liked the Rob/Dan/Vicky banter...I don't mind Chris Birks, but generally I like radio banter such as on Radio 1 and Virgin Radio in the morning so I think the show has lost a lot of value. Have to add that I find Chris Fade incredibly annoying!

I think pushing the legs out is quite normal with colic - they don't know what to do and so they just randomly kick! Also, you don't have to worry too much if babies don't pass stools, especially breast fed babies. There are times when they eat exactly as much as their bodies need and everything in breastmilk is nutritious so there is no waste to excrete. In fact what they do pass out is usually because they have overfed. you can get infacol over the counter here pretty much at every pharmacy and some supermarkets. It's pretty common here.

I heard that if you lived in the UK during the mad cow outbreak years they will not take your blood, can anyone confirm this? Interesting! I filled out the very long form that was required to give blood a few months ago and one of the questions was if you had lived in the UK during the years 1990-1992 (can't remember the exact years), I found it very random!! Having said that nobody objected to taking my blood because I was in the UK then, however I also failed the red blood cell test that they do before you give blood because my red blood cell levels were too low on the day, so I'm not sure if they would have taken my blood or not in the end.

I think she is suffering from colic not constipation. Colic is very common at this age and i would be surprised if it's constipation. You can buy lactulose over the counter, but I wouldn't give it to a 3-week old without seeking doctor advice first. Babies at this age are still getting used to understanding their bodies and they need to learn how to calm their digestive systems. Have you tried adding infacol before every feed? It works with some babies and not others, plus you have to make sure that you give it at every feed and not just when she has colic else it doesn't work. Also, try and hold her in different positions, i always found in my experience that usually putting them over your lap on their tummy, or gently rubbing their tummy helps relieve them. Different babies like different positions. Colic is the hardest thing to have to deal with, the baby cries for hours on end and the parents feel so helpless because there is not much that you can do to make them feel better.

I'm all for this! I was just yesterday talking to my husband about how I have to take my nearly 5 year old for the 5 year vaccinations, and how difficult it's going to be to have to convince her to willingly be injected - before that they have no idea what's coming and you just go for it! Now if the school would like to take that responsibility from me then I have no objections at all!! I know your dilemma, I did took my 2 boys for their vaccination ( 5 years and 3 years vaccinations ) and made DS1 to sit on my lap, not looking at the injection and talked to him, and it was only a tiny ouch he said, then my 3 years old, who I did the same but to make sure he is not going to move while the injection proceeding, and it all finished in 5 min. just make sure your LO not seeing the injection before or while it's been injected. Good Luck. Good advice Gorobattie...I appreciate it. I actually am dreading this. It's so much easier when they don't know what's going to happen and then you just soothe them afterwards...trying to convince them to willingly take an injection is another story. I am not looking forward to it at all :(

My daughter is nearly 15 months and she dropped the second nap a couple of months ago...she just doesn't want to sleep. In fact her only nap is at maximum an hour and usually only half an hour. She sleeps a solid 12 hours at night though. She just doesn't want to nap! She seems completely fine, awake, happy and alert and when I do put her down to sleep at night it takes her around 10-15 minutes to get to sleep. She can even sit in the car or pushchair for two hours and if she isn't tired she won't sleep! I was worried that she isn't getting enough sleep, but I think it's just how she is. There is no way I can make her sleep during the day if she doesn't want to.

If I was going to be reading nonsense, that website provides the best nonsense. Laughed so much! I have just spent the best part of the last half hour laughing out loud to some of the articles! Our jeweller taught this method to my mom for white gold. I'll check with her the exact method but I'm pretty sure all you do is boil water + washing powder. Then take it off the heat and drop your jewellery into the solution for about 5 minutes. It doesn't matter if there are diamonds. I'll post again once I confirm the exact method, but it works a charm! Thanks! I'll check back again to see if you can confirm this :) Ok it's boil water with washing powder in it for about five minutes (in a saucepan or coffe pot or something). Then switch off the cooker and drop the jewellery in for about 15-20 minutes. Then scrub them with a toothbrush and wasah them off. I have tried this (actually my mom did it for me which is why I wan't 100% sure of the method) and the diamonds and gold come out gleaming.

I haven't seen the video but have read about it online, I can't say I'm that impressed. Thinner, lighter, faster, better camera...nothing more than what you usually get with an upgraded model. I was expecting a device that would clean the house, look after the kids, and go to work for me... No but seriously, did I miss something? The 4S at least had Siri which was something new, nothing jumps out at me that has the "I need this now" factor.

Dragon Mart have pretty much ever type of blind and curtain that you can think of. Just take the measurements with you, order what you want and give them 30 minutes to cut it into size. They're easy to fit as well, just a couple of screws.

I have had pest control in when my DD was about 11 months. We had a cockroach problem and tried pretty much everything under the sun to get rid of them short of pest control but nothing worked. It got to the point where I figured that there was way more risk of my children contracting something from cockroaches crawling about than from pest control. My little one was crawling and I was terrified about her getting a virus or infection from having close contact with the floor all the time. They tell you that you need to evacuate the house for four hours. I would advise much longer than that We stayed out for about 8 hours, and then my DH came home, opened the windows and switched on the AC then we left for another 4 odd hours. Pest control didn't spray the children's bedrooms at all. You have to empty all of your kitchen cupboards where you want them to spray or put gel. You then have to cover everything or put them in bin bags. I then washed everything just to be on the safe side. Its a huge job and feels like moving! They didnt spray anywhere near our clothes as I didn't let them into the bedrooms. The maid and I then had a huge job of cleaning the house, literally scrubbing. Honestly it's the worst thing to have to go through. I would actually advise that you spend a night in a hotel and return the next day. In hindsight we should have done that but didnt think about it at the time. I haven't seen a cockroach since and so I think it was worth the effort. If something is biting your son then you definitely need to do something because it doesn't sound healthy. Have you tried putting him to sleep somewhere else to see if its bed bugs?

Betty Crocker do a "Pizza Crusts" range and they're great, much better than the pizza bases that you get in the freezer. Fantastic if you're in a hurry or if like me you are useless at baking anything! You literally just add warm water, kneed and leave to stand for 5 minutes. The only downside is that they literally fly off the shelf so when you see them stock up!

I had my bag pickpocketed in C4 Oman during Ramadam, everything in my wallet including 6000Dhms in cash went, along with all cards and official ID's etc. To add insult to injury when I was in the security managers office, giving it laldy, a fly flew into my mouth. Well not just into my mouth, it then proceeded to partly fly down my gullet. I did the only thing I could do and swallowed. :D . As dreadful as that must have been, you literally just made me burst out laughing! LOL definitely one of those incidents that you have to laugh at when you look at it later...you lived to tell the tale!

Legally by the time that a child is 5 they have to be in school. So this will mean that they need to enter school in the school year (Sept-Aug) that they turn 5 (FS2 BC/KG1 American). As dramaqn said, if they are already 5 by Sept 1st then they will be in Year 1 in the British system and KG2 in the American system.

Don't worry about it too much ilovewine, I know we all do but these things work themselves out and you will know what is right for your son :) Generally the schools have something like 3-4 FS1 classes and then 8 FS2 classes, so at least half of the kids are entering school for the first time so he definitely won't be the odd one out! The legal age for children to be in school is when they turn 5 (so FS2, or KG1 with the American schools) which is why there are more classes and the prices suddenly double. Your calculation for when your son starts school is correct. He will do FS1 in the year that he turns 4, so he will be admitted to FS1 in September 2015. To be honest, if you already have schools in mind then go and register now. My friend tried to register her baby (same age) at some of the top schools and wa told that the waiting list for September 2015 is full!! Regarding the primary/secondary school thing, then I don't think that makes a lot of difference either. Kids here come and go all the time, so there will always will be new faces coming and going. Plus if he moves to a new school for secondary school then the chances are that a lot of his friends will be moving to the same school. Most of the primary only schools are linked to a feeder school where they have priority for places. With regards to assessments, some schools have them and others don't. My daughter is at WPS and they don't assess the FS2 kids at all, other schools have assessments from FS1. The assessments are mainly to see if your child is able to socially interact and can deal with being away from you. They're objective is to see if they are ready for school, rather than assess how developed they are in terms of numbers, letters, shapes etc.

There is absolutely no difference between FS1/KG1 in big school or a nursery, they are teaching the same!!! And the age differences are normal due to cut off dates. I'm not entirely sure that I agree with this, you're completely right that they are taught the same things but I think the general atmosphere is very different. At nursery the atmosphere is much more laid back, the class sizes are smaller, and the whole place is geared towards small children. I think it's a lot less daunting for the child when they walk into a place and find everybody their own age than when they walk into school and see a whold bunch of kids that are older than them. At school its a lot more regimented, you can't be late, they're in uniform, and the general atmosphere is more serious. I'm not saying that within the classroom there is a big difference but it takes longer for the child to adjust. I think what Daza says is completely correct, it really does depend on the child and the school. I wouldn't worry too much about finding a place in FS2 if the child doesn't do FS1 - you just need to go and apply very early at your choice schools! I think one of the factors that can help you make your decision is if you send your child to nursery first. If your child has been in nursery since he was 2, then i think the idea of sending them to a big school at the age of 3 isn't as tough as if they were starting out fresh in big school having never experienced nursery before. I have had my daughter in nursery since she was 2 and 2 months. I had the choice to do FS1 and nursery or school and I chose to leave her at nursery, and I think it was the right decision for her. I remember that she wasn't ready for the idea of going to a big school, she wanted to stay at nursery and the idea of going somewhere else freaked her out. She has just moved to big school to do FS2 and she was completely ready, she was very excited about it and understood that she is now a big girl.

I actually had my hair cut at the Millionaire Saloon for men! I was in Valery and asked the same question, apparently the owner of Valery is married to the owner of Millionaire so she was the one that sent us down there claiming that they have lots of female clients. We stopped by to make an appointment, i was with my mom and two daughters, and the guy had no customers and told us to come in straight away. He cut all of our hair, and did a fantastic job! He's a Lebanese guy and told us he has lots of female clients but they're not allowed to advertise as a unisex salon as this is only allowed in hotels. I'm Syrian and where I am from all the good hairdressers are men so this wasn't weird for me. Anyways just thought I would mention it as he did a really good job. They also have a Tunisian (I think) lady who does highlights, etc. They call her to come if there is a female client.

Each to their own CA. I don't think it's a tight comment to say that business is a ridiculous amount of money - you pay up to four to five times the amount of economy. That is a lot of money, yes you get a higer level of service, but at the end of the day we're all going to end up in the same destination at the same time. Personally I wouldn't spend it even if I could afford it but everybody has different perceptions about what is good use of their money.

I like dodgy, anyway! Sounds affordable ;). So what do you reckon is a good daily rate, then? I'm in denial that in one week we will be chucked out of our furnished temp place into an EMPTY house, no white goods, no bedding, nada, so I'd better get on it! lol Verdeque don't worry you will soon have yourself sorted out..and then within a year you will have acquired so much stuff that you don't know where to go with it! I have absolutely no idea what the going rate is anymore, I can't even remember how much it was a couple of years ago. I would say haggle hard though! These men are very keen for work so they will probably come down a lot, it beats being parked in the sun with nothing to do!

This sounds random, but there used to be areas in Dubai where quite literally there would be a bunch of pick ups and drivers parked waiting for people to approach them to give them work. I know that sounds somewhat dodgy but it isn't at all. It used to be known that go to so and so area and you can negotiate with any of the drivers for use of their pick up (plus the driver obviously) for however long u need, be it an hour or a few days. I can recall two areas where you find these pick-ups, one is in Bur Dubai near Burjuman in a turning just off Kuwait street, and the second is in Barsha on Umm Suqeim Road as you drive towards MOE. I'm not sure if these still exist, I'm hoping that somebody that reads this know what I am on about!! If they do then it is a very good option, relatively cheap and the driver will pretty much do whatever you want so if you need lifting, etc. I think you can arrange for there to be a driver plus a helper to assist. You drive in front of them in your car. I know you have just moved here so that might sound somewhat dodgy but after living in Dubai for a while it sounds quite normal!

Why do you need to get off the pill? I have been on it for over 10 years and my doctor says there is nothing wrong with that. Also look at the side effects of depo. Read the studies. There are more side effects then the pill (ex. Weight gain). My doc has also told me that the pill is completely safe to use for long periods of time. Like OP the IUD scares the life out of me. I thought I had to come off the pill as I have been on it for a long time, but when exploring options both here and in the UK my docs have told me to stay on the pill as it is completely safe. In the past the pill had more risks but the pills these days do not have the same side effects.

NWS it sounds like your child is in a British system. The age range for FS1 is children born from 1st Sept 2008 - 31st August 2009, so any child that turns 4 within this time period is in FS1 regardless of whether they are at school or nursery.

It is a ridiculous amount of money to spend on business flights. It's one thing if your company is paying and a completely different thing if you're paying them yourself (obviously depends on your income), you are talking about 4 or 5 times the price of economy tickets. I think i would only justify travelling business if I was upgrading using air miles. At the end of the day you're all going to get to the same place at the same time. The thing is when you sit in business you feel so much more anxious about if your children make noise, whether it be with them crying or running down the aisles. In economy it's not ideal either, but usually you find that there are other people in the same situation. There is less room, but at some point in the flight the chidlren will sleep which will give you some comfort, and like somebody said if you can book the four seats in the middle then maybe that is an ideal option. Before booking your flight call the airline and find out how busy the flight is, maybe try and get a flight that is emptyish in order to make sure that there are extra seats so that you can spread out a little bit.

These are made in Egypt and taste totally different (different milk or something?) I always stock up on Cadbury's in the UK, especially Buttons as it is different league! You can get Cadbury's Buttons at the Union Coops - at least the Safa branch. They have a part of an aisle labelled "Products from the UK" or something like that. It's separate to everything else, next to one of the blocks of cashiers, its basically a large pillar that they have attached shelves to. They sell a whole bunch of chocolate and sweets imported directly from the UK and I have seen both the chocolate buttons and the Milky buttons (or whatever they're called), I've also seen Rolos, Boosts, Yorkies, Cadbury's clusters, Cadbury's raisins, Freddos, Chomps, Matchmakers, and a whole bunch of others that I can't recall. Oh and they sell the retro sweets - refreshers, sherbets, drumsticks...thats my favourite part!

A few months ago back in the UK we decided to watch our old family videos. My mom has kept her VCR because we still have the tapes and nobody has bothered to transfer them to CD. So we get out a VCR tape and are about to put it into the VCR. My four year old takes one look at the tape and says "mommy how do you put the CD inside?" Hilarious! It also made me think about how much we take forgranted how things have moved and how quickly we have got over our old gadgets! Honestly though, if they decide to come up with anything new to replace CDs then I'm not going to be a happy lady!!

Maybe ask permission first, but I see many people breastfeed (not express) in prayer rooms so I don't see why anybody would object.

Thanks Samie - I will be going to Ibn Battuta on Tuesday so will have a look then. BTW discovered Peacocks last week in there - amazing! All Mothercare stock but half price or less! Some of the stuff is actually still in the main Mothercare stores. Always found MC to be a bit pricey here for the quality and in the UK it's considered a low-mid brand but here is priced mid-high so Peacocks was a great find. Just thought I'd share! Do you mean Peacocks stock Mothercare own brand at cheaper prices? Or do they have their own brands which are similar to Mothercare?

Dangerous Blonde, great that the Iftar was a success! Wow, did you really make your own sambosek? I would've cheated with frozen or ordered from a restaurant! You can add salt to the frying oil to stop the eggplant absorbing so much. SEY, I made the Maggi Kabsa per your instructions, using a 900g fresh chicken cut into smallish pieces and 3 cups jasmine rice and 1 pkt Kabsa seasoning. I think I messed up with the water, rice was a tad mushy. Didn't brown the chicken in oven. My maid was inspired to add a topping of sauteed raisins and fried onions. Only 1 of my kids ate it. Even though I come from an ethnicity that is famous for using spices liberally, I found the Kabsa seasoning over-powering for the quantities of raw ingredients used, all I could taste was the cloves, cinnamon, cardamom. Will adjust next time. Maybe you should use plain rice? I'm not sure what jasmine rice is, but I just use standard basmati rice. I cooked it for guests over the weekend and it was a great success. I guess maybe not to everyon'e taste though and I'm sorry it didnt work out.

I cooked it as well, although I made it in my rice cooker and added chicken portions later when the rice was cooked (cooked in my own sauce). I found that the Knorr kabsa was really quite salty, and tbh it tasted like it came from a packet. It also was a wee bit too spicy for the kids. I think I am going to try and recreate the kabsa using the spices from the cupboard and not from a ready made packet and see how that goes. I have a recipe I found online. I only just read the comments on this, so sorry for the late reply. Alismum I have never tried the Knorr spices, but it doesnt surprise me that they taste like they came from a packet. I haven't found anything Knorr to taste decent at all. Please try it again with the Maggi ones if you find it. Also the Maggi ones aren't spicy. I don't cook spicy food at all, and my one year old happily eats this when I cook it.

I have been to a few shops for this Kabsa mix as well. Can't seem to find it. I wonder if there's another brand apart from Maggie. Will have a look in Marina C4 if I get chance. Knorr do a kabsa mix as well. I haven't tried it though as I'm a fan of the Maggi mix and will be disappointed if it doesn't taste as good. TDB let us know how it goes cooking it today. I seem to have sent a bunch of people on a wild goose chase to find the spices, so I'm hoping you're going to come back and say that it was worth the effort!

Did they charge your credit card for the fees? Plus are you sure that you forgot to sign it? Sometimes our mind plays tricks on us! You can always call the ridiculous toll number that they have, but other than that just hang on for a few days and they will send everything back to you.

I went to Valery salon for my nails today. It was Without doubt the worst manicure I have ever received. I asked the technician to trim my nails but she spent an hour clipping and cutting so that now my nails have been cut to the skin. The skin underneath is exposed and red. All the cuticles have been over cut and most of them are bleeding. I don't know how people have the audacity of get untrained technicians. Avoid the place. My mom went about three weeks ago and absolutely loved the place. It was the longest manicure/pedicure that she has ever had as they were so thorough and they did a fantastic job. They also agreed to postpone painting her nails until the next day as she had a wedding and told her to go down at any time to get it done. Finally she managed to completely ruin one of the nails so she went down to get that one nail fixed and they redid them all for her. She couldn't praise them enough.
