SMART Fitness Dubai!!! They are resonably prices, have a great gym, do classes & boot camps and more importantly they are like one big family. They will also do personalised training for you. Love the place & look forward to going there even if they are based in JLT. Seriously, the best gym & trainers I have recently come across. And no I don't work for them but do go there a lot so hence it's my own recomendation.

I collected mine from the main branch in Safa. Sounds as though it's a case of where you go and who you see, so no surprise there! Quikchange - We were previously Lloyd's customers at this branch. Which counter do you have to go to in order to pick them up?

Crate & Barrel do battery candles that have timers. These can be put inside lanters and flicker like a real candle. They stay on for 5 hours every 24 hours.

Thanks for your responses. I have been to see a Dr about this and they recommended the copper coil which I wasn't too interested in. A decent alternative to the copper coil is a plastic T shaped IUD. You can buy it off the counter, it's called Nova T, manufactured by Schering. Definitely hormone-free. From my understanding, Cerazette is distributed in limited amounts in Dubai. There are regular shortages of the drug. A friend was on it, and she relied on a BF in Saudi, where there were more constant supplies, to bring back 5 months' worth at a time. Thank you. So with Nova T, if it is hormone free does it just work as a barrier method in a way then?

Yes I think I was on Yasmine & absolutely fine with it. As OP said, we all act differently to certain pills.

Thanks for your responses. I have been to see a Dr about this and they recommended the copper coil which I wasn't too interested in. Plus they checked my blood pressure and weight etc So really my question is: - What are the names of the low dose pills in Dubai that you can buy?

Ladies I have been off the pill for about a year now and am having to start to think about birth control again!! Pain in the backside but the other alternative is not what I have in mind!! Anyhows, I want to get back on the pill but I wanted to ask you for your advice as to which pill can I take in Dubai that wont give me melasman ( brown pigment on face) I understad that the hormone levels in the pill make this worse and that it is best to opt for a pill that is only Oestrogen & not progesterone... or it could be the other way around!! Any ideas??? edited by SH12 on 18/02/2014

I bring in cheese all the time. No problem, as long as it's sealed. You're allowed 5 bottles (4 ltrs) of champagne. Oh noooo, I'd best either hide the 6th bottle then or alternatively drink it now!!

.. Ladies Do you know how many bottles of champagne I can bring through into Dubai from the airport? Currently have 6 bottles in my case. Also, does anyone know if I can bring in unopened packets of cheese? Don't ask why!! I have brought P@@k through in my case no problem I don't know if you are allowed 6 bottles of champers though. I suppose it depends if they scan your case again as they sometimes do and could ( but may not) confiscate it. I believe you are allowed 4 or 5 litres from Duty Free. my colleague has just shouted across that he has bought cheese in LOL Excellent, sounds like everyone is hard at work then ;)

I don't think my LL wants to sell. His run around helper here in Dubai (as LL is out of the country) said he wants a 1 year non renewable contract as he may want to sell. Now I have done a bit of research and this is not legal I think. LL can not do 1 year contracts as they want to stop them from hiking up rents every year or selling property in the good times. My question is: Do I have to move out as I have signed a contract that states this: - The contract is valid up to the end of the specified period after which date is considered null & void - The tenancy contract is fixed for one year only and cannot be renewed. The tenant agrees to vacate the premises on the expiry date of this Tenancy I'm really confused!!! RERA say the contract is not legal as you can;t do fixed contracts, plus I am waiting to speak with Mr Manssor at the Rent Committee. Anyone else been thru something similar?

So that is now crystal clear. Even though my LL had changed the wording on the contract ( the bit under the top heading where it states the address & the LL details) to ask me to vacate at the end & that it will not be renewed he still has to give me 12 months notice etc etc. So looks like I have a bit of a battle on my hands with him & a visit to the rent committee. Thank you for this valuable information.

Hi, I think you will find that all tenancy contracts are not standard and there are examples (including those mentioned on this site) where the rent committee has ruled in favour of the landlord when a separate document has been by the tenant agreeing to move after one year. Having said that, unless the contract specifically contains the words "non-renewable", then the wording in the addendum in your contract does not affect the 12-month ruling. You should therefore inform your landlord you have taken legal advice and will not be moving out as appropriate notice has not been served, but you would be happy to resolve any disagreement through the rent committee if he wishes to open a case. Advise him you will therefore continue to rent the property on the same terms as last year and that the rent cheques are available for collection at his convenience. And then don't worry about it! I'm going through something similar. Agents call up to ask if I am renewing my contract and I tell them that I have spoken to my LL about this. My contract states that it is for one year only & I have to vacate after this. The LL is saying that he will renew but wants to put up the rent. So I checked the rental calculator & he can't BUT can he if he starts a new contract? Also I rang RERA & the rent committee and they said even though the contract says that it is a 12 month contact for 1 year and will not be renewed & that I have to move out, they said this is not allowed. Also my agents say the same thing. So now I am really confused. Because if I have signed a 12 month contract then I guess I move out!!!! So why is everyone saying it doesn't count. Plus now he is saying I can stay can he increase the rent? Does that now mean that I have a renewable contract etc etc I'm really confused. Any advice would be welcome.

I've totally had enough!! Can't find anywhere that suits and am going giddy looking online etc. Currently living on the Palm with direct beach access, great pool, bar, restaurant etc etc, however I need to move out & can't find anywhere that is meeting up to what I have now. Budget is around AED180k and I need a 2 bed and would love to be close to the beach & have a view of the water. Ladies, any ideas? Maybe someone knows about a hidden secret location somewhere. TIA

Evening ladies in Marina Residences 5 & 6 I am looking to move into these apartments but wanted to ask what the apartment numbers were that faced Atlantis. (Left hand side) I know that the Type D on the end is a *01, but I wanted to know what number the Type C's were that overlooked Atlantis OR are on the left hand side of the building when you look at the building from facing the main entrance. This would help me when talking to agents. TIA!!
