@Beany: would use condoms but don't really trust them 100%. All I would need is for one to break and then I have to get out of the country quick smart to get myself sorted. @mk-in-dubai & MrsCanuck: Can you give me a little more information on the non hormonal IUD's? Also can you get them here in Dubai?

Thank you ladies for your responses so far. My parents have this funny idea in their head that are going to be able to book a hotel within a 2 minb walk to the bridge and all will be good.... I have a funny feeling that it isn't going to be that simple or straight forward!!!

I agree, move on!! I had something similar about 6 months ago. My idiot of an ex fiancé owed me AED40k and did a runner over night. He now has a new girlfriend and although he has given me AED10k back so far I know that I am probably not going to get the rest back. I just hear about the fact that he is off on holiday with her and weekends away spending money that he should be paying me back!!! It's a hard lesson to learn. I will certainly not give anyone any of my hard earned cash ever again. Not to my closest friends, not to the love of my life. Sad but very true. Move on, drop the anger and start to live life to the full!! Life is so very short!!

OMG!! YOu sound just like me. My ex is now shakes up with a 20 something after just a few weeks of us splitting up. I have the worst luck ever dating guys. I've tried online dating, blind dates, social events, sports & hobbies and all the men I come into contact with just want a bit of fun. I have just come to the realization that Dubai just isn't a great place to find a good man to have a relationship with. But as the OP said, it is better to be on your own than with someone who doesn't care. It helps that I have great friends as well. Don't get down & upset it only drags you down. Stay positive & I am sure in time you will meet a great guy, that's what I keep telling myself.

I'd change the locks, just incase he has a key and then tell him no deposit no key. Then I would go away on holiday, simple. But like the OP said, I know it is hard to swallow to just walk away and right off a deposit but that is what it is like, I hate it too.

Hope you don't mind me jumping on this thread but I am in a similar situation. Moving from free zone to the same free zone with companies. I have been told the following by my new company: Once my new company receive my documents(Certificate, old company trade license etc): · New company PRO will require 2 -3 working days to apply for the transfer paper · The transfer form needs to be signed by the authorized signatory of my old company · After new company receive the signed form it will take 6 -10 working days to complete the transfer. So, I am going away on holiday in a few weeks. My question is..... Does my new company keep my passport whilst applying for and transferring my visa or do I get it back for a bit in-between applying and receiving? Meaning that I can go on holiday OR am I not allowed to travel during a visa transfer? Confused, I am :-)

...Ladies, I am changing jobs but staying in the same free zone so have been told that I can just transfer my visa no need to cancel and get a new one. My question is this? During my notice period I am going on holiday & going overseas as I have holiday owing to me. When I return I have only a few days before I start my new job so my new company have advised to transfer the visa before I go on holiday. This does mean though that I will have a new visa for my new company but will still be employee by my old company even though I am on holiday doing my notice period. Is this legal? Shouldn't I have to wait until the end of my contract from my old company before you transfer the visa for my new company???

Hi, I need your help to recommend me a hairdresser. My hair is longer than the middle of my back now, dyed but in a natural color and I need to do something about it ...at the moment it is just wild and without any shape. I need a great hairdresser, regardless of the costs, who can come up with good ideas and suggest something that will change my looks completely. Please help, if you can recommend someone. I need someone who cuts hair "scientifically", someone who studied, a real hairdresser, someone who knows how to match the hairstyle to the shape of my face. Thank you Salon Ink or Ted Morgan Mrs Pineapples, do you mind if I ask what she did to your hair? I have very long hair and am thinking of a change. Salon Ink Ali or Kelly i second Kelly at SI; she does wonders and i absolutely love what she has done to my almost waist length hair.

My DS is 30 and works as an architect in Dubai. He would love to have a relationship but has no plans to remain in Dubai longterm. He loves the outdoor life and is currently running a local Scout troop. Biased I know, but he is a lovely guy!! Any chance you want to play matchmaker JoyceB? I'm also 30 and looking for a lovely guy, your son sounds like a gem :) LOL! He would kill me! he has enough problems at home with my DD's gran in law trying to match him up with her friend's granddaughter and his mates at home trying to pair him off with various females that he's just not interested in! He'll find someone nice one of these days and who knows, it could be you :) x Bopps30- maybe you could volunteer to help with Scouts? They are always looking for keen volunteers. I'm sure a we could find out which was the 'right' scout troop. :) Love it, what a great idea :)

I met my OH here, after being lonely and single in England for nearly 10 years. We will have been together next weekend for 5 years. I would suggest joining Twitter - and going to Tweet Ups - loads of lovely guys go to them, join a Business Club like BBG - if your company has business with Britain, you can meet loads of "business" type guys. Don't lose hope, like you say - you will meet him when you least expect Congrats Polly! My SO and I just had our 5-year anniv last weekend, hah! But back to the OP, as I've read another person or two say: I think it's best to simply be yourself, do as you'd normally do (ie. throw "rules" out the window), and the person for you will come along eventually - even here in Dubai (it's where I met mine). I would argue that it's hard finding the right person anywhere, not just Dubai, to be honest. Personally, I think meeting (although not being set-up) through friends works well - it's how I got into my current relationship. I wasn't looking for anyone or to be a relationship, but we met at a get-together at a mutual friend's place one evening and hit it off. A chance meeting through a mutual friend is also how I got into my previous long-term relationship, which was also with a really fantastic guy. So, with that history in mind, I would definitely recommend keeping an eye on guys your friends know. I kind of figure if you respect and enjoy your friend's company, they probably keep with other people worth knowing, too! edited by laurelm on 10/07/2013 Congrats on your 5 year anniversary!! I'm always touching base with my friends to see if they have any other great single guy mates but unfortunately they are all married or loved up. Still never say never eh!

SH12 I had the same experience - lots of guys here just want to mess around; they are here on contracts, they don't look for long term opportunities. Why else do they bbm at midnight on a Friday? Or just want to meet at clubs? Or you get the Arab expats who think Westerners are easy / or who want a passport - I have experienced this myself and have seen it happen to too many friends. Right now I have a friend with a Palestinian boyfriend who has moved into her apartment and moved his mother from Syria into her apartment and doesn't pay a penny of rent! The nice genuine guys are few and far between. Don't waste time on losers or anyone not worthy of your time. In time, you will meet the right person. Ha Ha, you have also had the BBMs at midnight as well then, thought it was just me!! :) You are absolutely right, I have learnt that I am worth a lot more than a bit of fun. I have now started to be very very picky and choosy on who I spend my time with. For now I am just concentrating on my career and spending time with my great friends here.

I don’t think Dubai is too bad when it comes to meeting ‘great and genuine’ men. There are a lot out there who are very decent and willing to commit if they see the “right signs” from these women. It is a human nature thing that “we want what we can’t have!” FACT! This goes the same with how men perceive a relationship. If women are too serious esp. on the first few dates, men can feel your desperation, the pressure and see you as ‘needy’, hence they become uncommitted/scared and will runaway eventually. Imagine a man you just met will appear in your door step with 5 dozens of flowers and tell you to marry him as he can’t live without you in his life- your first move is to run as far as you can, right? Also, for men, they want to feel that the woman want them for “who they are” and not for “what they can bring into her life” i.e. to complete the missing piece in her life. I’ve been in Dubai for 8 years now and had few decent long-term relationships. And now I am getting married soon to my wonderful Dane partner I met in Dubai last 2011. I can say he is so into me, he loves me more than I love him. FEW THINGS I did that I think was effective to get him and other men more interested to me were: - I showed no interest in marriage and kids yet. And that I was always cool. The more I don’t talk about commitment, marriage, and kids, the more he talk about our future together. - I never added him in Facebook and one day he called me and asked if he can add me as his partner in FB. I said cool! I also never add photos of us together and never commented on his FB, this made him feel I am not a needy person. -When I phoned him and he didn’t answer. I don’t call him again and again like a mad woman, I let him call me back and answer his call ONLY when it is convenient to me. -I stayed mysterious – I mean don’t tell EVERYTING to them. Also, don’t tell your life story in a first date... -I do a lot of sports, gym, and I go out a lot with my friends. This made him feel I can live an enjoyable life even without him. -I NEVER ask for permission. I am not suggesting to play mind games here, what I am trying to say is to be CONFIDENT, SHOW GOOD MANNERS, AND BE INDEPENDENT- they find these very attractive and makes them want to stay. Because they don’t feel pressured and don’t see you as a burden. The result for me was great – I get to choose who I want to be and not just an option for someone else. ;-) NOTE: Sorry if I sounded lecturing, this is just my own opinion and style and thought to share it, I am sure a lot of ladies here have different ways of dealing with men. So please be gentle if there’s any violent reactions in the way I deal with men. :-) Good luck SH12. Thanks for the advice & info. TBH I have followed all of these "rules" as it were. The problem that I have is meeting a guy that is worthy of acting this way. Most just want to have a good time, go out and get drunk and pick you up where they left off when they have time!!
